Brandwatch and Sprout Social both document ways to monitor TikTok, but neither cited feature set should be treated as unrestricted keyword search across every public TikTok post. Both depend on connected TikTok business accounts for owned-channel coverage; broader discovery is tied to brand hashtags and defined eligibility rules. The right choice depends first on whether you need to manage your own account’s comments and mentions or find public posts using approved brand hashtags.
What “TikTok monitoring” means in these tools
There are two distinct jobs that are easy to conflate:
- Owned-account monitoring: collect comments on your account’s videos and posts that mention your connected handle, so your team can track or respond to activity on channels it manages.
- Public hashtag discovery: collect eligible public posts that use specified brand hashtags. This is not the same as searching all public TikTok content for any word or phrase.
Neither vendor’s cited TikTok documentation establishes a full public-content firehose or open-ended TikTok keyword search. Brandwatch advertises Boolean search and other broad Listen features, but those general product claims do not establish that TikTok itself supports unrestricted Boolean queries. Sprout explicitly says keyword-based querying is not supported for its connected-profile TikTok data.

Brandwatch vs. Sprout Social for TikTok monitoring
| What to compare | Brandwatch Listen | Sprout Social Listening |
|---|---|---|
| Connected-account setup | Authenticate an owned TikTok account to index mentions from that channel. | Connect an authenticated TikTok Business Account. Connected-profile data applies to public posts. |
| Connected-account messages | Mentions of the brand’s TikTok handle in videos, comments, or replies. | Comments on connected-profile videos and @mentions of the connected handle in captions and comments. |
| Public hashtag data | Up to 50 verified brand hashtags and up to 1,000 posts containing one or more of those hashtags from the connected account. | Public posts from a business page using its brand hashtag, subject to approved-hashtag and TikTok Top Post criteria. |
| Collection cadence | Top 1,000 connected-channel mentions and performance metrics refresh every 24 hours. Hashtag collection begins within 24 hours after adding a source. | Connected-profile and brand-hashtag data updates every 24 hours. |
| History | One year for the connected channel. Hashtag history starts when the hashtag source is added. | Connected profiles: 30-day automatic backfill; manual backfill up to 365 days for comments on the top 500 videos and up to 90 days for mentions, subject to limits. Brand hashtags: popular posts over 30 days automatically, with manual backfill up to 90 days subject to approved-hashtag and top-post limits. |
| Related workflow | Listen lists Boolean search, sentiment analysis, alerts, historical data, and source exploration as broader product features. | TikTok integration materials describe reporting, comment handling, scheduling, and a shared content calendar. |
| Price and plan entitlement | Not stated in the cited official sources; confirm with Brandwatch. | Not stated in the cited official sources; confirm with Sprout Social. |
These figures describe different source types and limits, not an apples-to-apples coverage score. Brandwatch’s one-year connected-channel history does not mean its hashtag source includes a year of older posts; Sprout’s backfill varies by whether the source is a connected profile or brand hashtag, and by message type.

What Brandwatch documents for TikTok
Connected TikTok account
Brandwatch says TikTok is available in Listen and that you must authenticate an owned TikTok account before it can index mentions from that channel. Its documentation lists one year of historical data for the connected channel and handle mentions from videos, comments, or replies. It also says it measures likes, shares, and comments from videos mentioning the brand in the last 90 days. The account’s top 1,000 mentions and performance metrics refresh every 24 hours. See Brandwatch’s Listen source documentation.
Verified brand hashtags
Brandwatch separately documents tracking up to 50 verified brand hashtags and up to 1,000 posts containing one or more of those hashtags from the connected account. Collection begins within 24 hours of adding the hashtag source; it does not include history from before that source was added. Check Brandwatch’s content-source documentation for its stated limits and setup.

Do not overread general Listen features
Brandwatch’s Listen product page lists Boolean operators, unlimited search queries, multiple languages, sentiment analysis, historical data, AI alerts for mention spikes or drops, mention exploration, and social inbox integration. These are broader product claims, not proof of open-ended Boolean search across TikTok. Confirm the exact TikTok query and returned source types in a demonstration. Brandwatch Listen
What Sprout Social documents for TikTok
Connected TikTok profile
Sprout’s connected-profile source includes comments on videos from the connected account and @mentions of the handle in video captions and comments. Mention collection requires an explicit handle @mention. The account must be an authenticated TikTok Business Account, and posts must be public. Sprout says this data updates every 24 hours and has a default 30-day backfill. It also states: “No – TikTok does not support ‘Key Word’ based querying at this time.” That statement concerns connected-profile TikTok data in Sprout Listening, not every monitoring product or every TikTok source. Rank #3
Public brand-hashtag source
Sprout distinguishes public TikTok brand-hashtag posts from connected-account data. Its documentation describes public posts from a business page using its brand hashtag, automatic collection of popular posts over 30 days, and manual backfill up to 90 days subject to approved-hashtag and top-post limits. Updates occur every 24 hours based on TikTok’s Top Post criteria. Sprout’s data availability and limitations
Management features are separate from listening coverage
Sprout also describes TikTok reporting, cross-network comparisons, Smart Inbox comment management, scheduling, and content-calendar workflows. These can matter if your team wants monitoring tied to publishing and response, but they do not expand what public TikTok material Listening can collect. Sprout’s TikTok integration

Choose around account access and message type
- For care of your own TikTok account: compare the precise comment and handle-mention rules, account eligibility, refresh cadence, and historical backfill for the messages your team needs.
- For brand-hashtag discovery: verify that each desired hashtag qualifies, what approval or verification is required, and which posts the platform actually returns.
- For broad market conversation: do not assume either documented TikTok source can search every public post by arbitrary keyword. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the exact query and export you need.
- For an integrated publishing and response workflow: weigh reporting, scheduling, inbox handling, and cross-channel needs separately from listening-source coverage.
Questions to ask during a vendor demo
- Can we connect our exact TikTok account type, and what permissions or authentication steps are required?
- Which specific posts, comments, replies, captions, and handle mentions are included?
- Can the tool find public posts by arbitrary keywords, or only by connected-account activity and eligible hashtags?
- Which hashtags are eligible, verified, or subject to approval, and what are the source and post caps?
- How far back does each message type go, and what can be backfilled manually?
- How often does each TikTok source update, and can the team see the timestamp of the latest collection?
- Which plan includes the required listening features, and what is the total quoted cost?
Prices, plan entitlements, and a universal winner are not established by the cited official pages. Compare the answers for your own account, hashtags, reporting needs, and required historical depth rather than choosing on the generic label “social listening.”
