Your Galaxy S23 is the screen and companion—not the heart-rate sensor in Samsung’s documented setup. Samsung Health records a reading from a compatible Galaxy Watch’s heart-rate sensor; pair the watch with your S23 to view the connected health data on your phone. Without a compatible sensor, Samsung Health on the S23 alone is not the documented way to measure your pulse.
Can my Samsung S23 measure my heart rate?
Samsung’s documented Samsung Health workflow takes the measurement using the sensor on a Galaxy Watch, rather than the S23. Samsung describes the process as: “Samsung Health measures your heart rate through the heart rate sensor of the Galaxy Watch.” (Samsung India Support, updated August 22, 2022.) The phone can display connected Samsung Health information, but this workflow requires a compatible watch to collect the reading.
This is a statement about Samsung’s documented workflow, not a claim that every S23 hardware specification has been independently verified here. If you want to use Samsung Health for heart-rate monitoring, pair a compatible Galaxy Watch with the phone.

How do I check my heart rate on a Samsung Galaxy S23?
- Pair a compatible Galaxy Watch with your S23. Use Samsung’s supported pairing process and ensure Samsung Health is available on the connected devices.
- Measure on the watch. Open Samsung Health on the Galaxy Watch and use its heart-rate measurement feature. The watch’s sensor is the source of the reading.
- Choose the monitoring frequency on the watch. Samsung documents three modes: continuous/Always, every 10 minutes while still/Frequent, or manual measurement only/Never. Names and menu locations can change with software versions, so check the current on-watch settings for these options.
- View the connected data on your S23. Open Samsung Health on the phone to review the health data synced from the paired watch. Syncing and available details can depend on device and software compatibility.
Which heart-rate mode should I use?

Can Samsung Health monitor heart rate without a watch?
Samsung’s documented Samsung Health heart-rate method uses a Galaxy Watch sensor. Samsung also publishes compatibility guidance for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) heart-rate-monitor accessories, but that guidance alone does not confirm that every third-party sensor works with every S23, app version, or use case. If considering a separate BLE monitor, verify the exact model’s compatibility and pairing instructions before relying on it.
For watches, Samsung’s Health Sensor SDK supports Galaxy Watch4 series and later models running Wear OS powered by Samsung. That is developer-platform guidance, not a guarantee that every feature is available on every model or in every region. Check current compatibility for the particular watch, phone, and Samsung Health features you intend to use.

Heart-rate tracking is different from Samsung Health Monitor
Basic heart-rate tracking in Samsung Health should not be confused with Samsung Health Monitor features such as ECG, irregular rhythm notifications, blood pressure, or sleep-apnea functions. Samsung Health Monitor is a separate companion app for compatible Galaxy Watches and Samsung phones; it is not downloaded independently of a compatible paired-device setup. Its features have their own device and country or region requirements. Confirm current local eligibility before buying a device or following feature-specific instructions.
For example, Samsung’s US support guidance says its ECG feature is not intended for people under 22 and is not a replacement for traditional diagnosis or treatment. This is a feature-specific restriction, not a general age rule for ordinary heart-rate monitoring. (Samsung Health Monitor compatibility and ECG guidance.)

Samsung Health is intended for fitness and wellness, not for diagnosing, curing, mitigating, treating, or preventing disease. Samsung Health Monitor likewise cautions users not to interpret its output or take clinical action without a qualified healthcare professional. Treat readings as wellness information; ask a healthcare professional about symptoms or health decisions.
