To put two pictures on one PDF page, use an online layout editor rather than a basic PDF merger. Create one page in your required paper size, place both images in a grid, side-by-side frame, or stacked layout, then export that page as a PDF. Canva is the clearest visual option; Cloudinary offers automated grid, masonry, and gallery layouts. Adobe Acrobat can combine image files, but you must verify in its preview that both images are on the same page.
What “merge two images” should produce
There are two different operations that are often called merging:
- Multi-page PDF: each image becomes its own PDF page.
- Single-page composition: both images are placed on one canvas and exported as one PDF page.
This guide covers the second result. It is useful for comparing screenshots, putting front-and-back scans on one sheet, arranging receipts, or creating a contact sheet.
Choose the layout before uploading
Side-by-side
Use two columns when the images need direct comparison or when they are front and back of the same document. Keep both images at the same visual height if possible.

Stacked vertically
Place one image above the other for portrait scans or tall pages. This usually preserves more width than a two-column layout.
Grid
A grid gives equal gutters and repeatable alignment. It is the best choice when you will make the same type of one-page PDF repeatedly.
Different aspect ratios
Do not stretch one image to fill a frame. Choose “fit” or crop deliberately, and leave enough margin that important edges and text remain visible.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Method 1: Canva (best for a visual one-page layout)
- Create the page: open Canva and start a blank design with the paper ratio you need, such as A4, US Letter, or a custom size.
- Upload both files: open the Uploads panel and add the two images.
- Insert a layout: search Elements for a grid or choose frames. Pick a two-cell side-by-side arrangement, a vertical two-cell arrangement, or a larger grid.
- Place the images: drag each uploaded image into its frame. Double-click an image to reposition it inside the frame without changing the frame size.
- Set spacing and margins: adjust the gap between cells and keep a safe border around the page. Align the edges using Canva’s guides.
- Check orientation: rotate a scan if its text is sideways. If the two source images have different proportions, use separate frames or a crop that keeps all required content.
- Export: choose Download, select PDF Standard for ordinary sharing or PDF Print when you need higher print quality, and download the file.
Canva’s documented grid and frame workflow is designed for placing multiple images on one page. Before downloading, zoom to 100 percent and inspect every edge.
Method 2: Cloudinary PDF Image Layouts (automated composition)
Cloudinary’s PDF Image Layouts tool accepts multiple images and composes them into a single-page PDF. Its documented layout modes include grid, masonry, and gallery.

- UPC: 198828789662
- Weight: 10.450 lbs
- Open the PDF Image Layouts tool and add the two image files.
- Choose grid for equal cells, masonry when images have different heights, or gallery when the tool’s gallery arrangement matches your intended presentation.
- Set the page and spacing options offered by the tool.
- Review the generated single-page preview, then export the PDF.
This approach is useful when you want a repeatable automated layout instead of manually positioning each image. Check the current interface for its available free usage and account requirements before uploading a batch.
Method 3: Adobe Acrobat online
Adobe’s online merge workflow supports adding image files, previewing them, organizing the input, and saving a merged PDF. A generic merge can still produce one page per image, so the preview is essential when your requirement is one page containing both images.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Acrobat’s online merge tool.
- Select both image files and wait for their thumbnails to appear.
- Use the preview and page controls to determine whether the images occupy one page or separate pages.
- If the result is separate pages, switch to a layout or combine the images into one canvas first, then create the PDF.
- Save or download the final PDF and reopen it to verify the page count and placement.
Method 4: iLovePDF (useful for conversion, not a confirmed same-page layout)
iLovePDF documents JPG-to-PDF conversion and merging PDFs that already exist. Those operations are useful when you first create a one-page image or when you need to join completed PDF files. Its cited help does not establish that uploading two JPGs will place them on the same page.
- Use JPG to PDF if you need to turn an image into a PDF.
- Use Merge PDF when the files are already PDFs and page order is the only requirement.
- For two JPGs on one sheet, compose the images in a layout editor first, export one PDF page, and use iLovePDF only for any subsequent PDF merge.

Make the PDF readable and correctly sized
Use the right paper ratio
Choose A4 for metric documents or US Letter for common North American printing. A page ratio that matches the destination reduces empty space and unexpected cropping.
Preserve scan legibility
Do not shrink two text-heavy scans until the smallest letters are unreadable. If side-by-side placement makes text too small, use a stacked layout or a larger page size.

Keep margins and gutters intentional
Leave a consistent outer margin and a visible gap between images. A small gutter prevents the images from appearing to touch after printing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck rotation and crop
Inspect all four edges of both images. Cropping a border may remove a signature, date, barcode, or page number. Rotate scans before export rather than relying on a PDF viewer’s temporary orientation.
Preview at 100 percent
Fit-to-screen previews can hide soft text and clipped edges. Open the downloaded PDF at 100 percent, check the page count, and print a test page when physical dimensions matter.
Privacy and upload considerations
Online editors require your images to be uploaded to a service. For passports, identity documents, medical records, contracts, or unreleased designs, read the service’s current processing and deletion policy before uploading. If the files are confidential, use an offline editor that can place both images on a page and export locally instead of sending them to a website.
Or skip the browser setup
If your two images are already displayed in a publicly reachable HTML page, ScreenshotNeo can render that page and return a PDF. It is a screenshot API, so it does not directly upload two local image files or replace the layout step; first create a page whose HTML and CSS put the images where you want them. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

The PDF has two pages instead of one
You used a page merger rather than a canvas or layout. Return to Canva or Cloudinary, place both images on one page, export that page, and confirm the page count before sharing.
One image is cut off
The frame is cropping the source or the source ratio does not match the frame. Choose fit, reposition the image inside the frame, enlarge the frame, or use a layout with independent cells.
The images look stretched
Width and height were changed independently. Preserve the source aspect ratio and crop excess whitespace instead of stretching the content.

Text is too small to read
Reduce the gutter, switch from side-by-side to stacked, or use a larger paper size. Do not solve unreadable text by exporting repeatedly; the layout itself needs more area per image.
The PDF is rotated
Rotate the source image in the editor and check the page orientation setting. Reopen the downloaded PDF in a second viewer to distinguish a viewer-specific display issue from an incorrect file rotation.
The online tool rejects or changes the file
Confirm that the image format is accepted, rename files without unusual characters, and try one image at a time to identify the failing input. For confidential material, stop uploading and use a local workflow.
Final checklist
- Both images are visible on the same PDF page.
- The selected page size matches the intended printer or recipient.
- Neither image is unintentionally cropped, stretched, or rotated.
- Margins and the center gutter are consistent.
- Text and fine details remain readable at 100 percent.
- The downloaded file opens correctly and has the expected page count.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put two pictures on one PDF page from a phone?
Yes. Use a mobile browser with a layout editor that provides grids or frames, create one page, place both photos, and export as PDF. A basic “merge PDF” button may create two pages instead.
What is the best layout for front-and-back scans?
Use side-by-side when both sides must be compared at once. Use a stacked layout when the scans contain small text and need more width.
Can a screenshot API combine two files I have only on my computer?
Not directly. ScreenshotNeo captures a reachable webpage, so local images must first be placed in a hosted HTML layout or handled with an upload-based layout editor.
