To manage or cancel an HBO Max/Max or Paramount+ subscription, first identify the company billing you, then cancel through that company’s account controls. Deleting the streaming app does not cancel a paid subscription. The exact steps depend on whether you subscribed through Apple, Google Play, Roku, the streaming service, or a TV, internet, or mobile provider.
How to find out who bills your subscription
For Max/HBO Max, open the service’s subscription page, or open the app and go to your profile or settings, then Subscription. The billing provider should be shown there. Max’s name and menu labels may appear as “Max” or “HBO Max” depending on the page or app version.
If the service does not show who bills you, check your bank or card statement. You can also ask your internet, mobile, or TV provider whether it includes or bills for the subscription. Once you identify the biller, manage the subscription through that company—not by deleting the streaming app.
If an Apple or Google Play subscription does not appear, check that you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account used when you subscribed. Max’s cancellation guidance says to use the account tied to the purchase.

How to cancel Max/HBO Max through Apple, Google Play, or Roku
Max’s cancellation guidance lists separate routes for platform billing. Button names and steps can change, so follow the current prompts in the account that bills you.
Apple
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings and tap your account name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then select Max/HBO Max.
- Choose the cancellation option and follow the prompts. If the subscription is not listed, check the Apple ID used to subscribe.
Google Play
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Go to Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
- Select Max/HBO Max and follow the cancellation prompts. If it is missing, check the Google account used for the purchase.
Roku
- Sign in to Roku’s subscriptions page using the Roku account that bills you.
- Select the active Max/HBO Max subscription and choose Manage subscription.
- Turn off auto-renew and complete the confirmation steps. Roku says it sends a cancellation email.
TV, internet, or mobile provider
Use the provider’s website or help center, or contact its customer support team. If that company bills the subscription, the streaming app may not have cancellation controls for it.

What happens after you cancel Max/HBO Max
Max subscriptions renew automatically until canceled. Max recommends canceling before the next billing date to avoid another charge. After cancellation, access continues through the end of the current paid billing period; check the confirmation and displayed expiration date to verify when access ends. Max warns: “Deleting the Max app does not cancel your subscription.” A cancellation is not a promise of an immediate refund; refund policies vary by billing provider.
How to avoid duplicate Paramount+ subscriptions
Paramount+ distinguishes a subscription made through its iPhone or iPad app from a subscription to the Paramount+ Apple TV Channel. They are independent subscriptions, not one membership that automatically transfers between the app and channel. Paramount+ explains that each requires a separate subscription in its Apple device and Apple TV Channel guidance, dated September 9, 2025.
