Samsung Health’s Together area lets you connect with friends and control who can see your step count, who can send you challenges, and whether contacts are synced or added to the leaderboard. These settings are separate: changing one does not automatically change the others.
How to add a friend in Samsung Health
Samsung’s current US support guide documents adding friends through a QR code or an invitation link. Menu names and availability may vary by country, device, and app version.

On an Android phone, open Samsung Health and tap Together.

Open Friends. Connect contacts if the app prompts you and you want to use that option.

Choose to scan the other person’s Samsung Health QR code, or send an invitation link by email, text, or another available sharing method.

Follow the prompts in the app to finish. Samsung’s instructions describe these connection methods but do not establish a universal friend-request acceptance process. Samsung’s US Together guide and its Colombia guide, updated September 19, 2025, both describe QR codes and invite links.
Together is available on Android phones. Samsung says to start Together on a phone before using it on a tablet. Samsung US support

How to change step-count and challenge privacy
On the current Samsung US support path, open Samsung Health > More options (the three vertical dots) > Settings > Together. Choose the audience separately for step counts and challenge invitations. The documented choices for each are Anyone, Friends, and No one. Samsung US support

For example, selecting No one for step-count visibility does not, by itself, stop challenge invitations. Set both audiences to match your preferences.
How contact syncing and leaderboard auto-add work
The Together settings also contain two on/off controls. They affect convenience and social display, not the two audience choices above.

Keep contacts synced: When enabled, Samsung Health can automatically add Samsung Health users found in your phone’s contacts to your friends list. Turn it off to stop that automatic syncing. Samsung’s support instructions do not say that switching it off removes people already on the list.

Auto add new friends to leaderboard: Turn this on or off to control whether new friends are automatically added to the leaderboard.
Samsung’s current US guide lists these controls. Its Canadian guide, last updated September 28, 2021, groups similar options under “Receive challenges from” and “Find and manage friends,” and notes that available screens and settings can differ by country. If your labels differ, use the options shown in your app.

How to handle someone already on your friends list
A Samsung Health service moderator said on March 19, 2025, that Together did not have a separate friend-delete feature at that time and described blocking as the available alternative. Because this is dated community support, the steps may differ in later app versions.

Open Samsung Health > Together > Friends.

Tap the three-dot menu, then choose Block and unblock friends.

Tap Block and select the person.
This path is from the Samsung Health service moderator’s March 2025 response. The moderator noted that a contact-synced person may appear under the name saved in your contacts, while QR-code, invitation-link, or accepted one-to-one challenge connections may appear by nickname. Blocking is not the same as deleting someone’s underlying Samsung account. If the menu or option is absent, check the current Friends and Together settings in your version of Samsung Health.

What permissions are relevant to Together?
Samsung’s Galaxy Store listing identifies Contacts permission for creating a Together friends list, Camera permission for scanning friend QR codes, and Phone permission for confirming a number for Together. The listing showed Samsung Health version 7.00.6.011 dated September 7, 2026; app listings and versions can change. Samsung Galaxy Store listing
These Together controls address specific social features. The cited instructions do not establish that they govern every category of Samsung Health data or describe all retention and deletion behavior for contact data.
