To run a 24/7 white noise livestream on YouTube, create an encoder-based live stream in YouTube Studio and send it a black or near-black video feed with white-noise audio you made or have permission to use. Enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in streaming software, start the encoder, then start the broadcast in Live Control Room. You can do this with a computer and software encoder; YouTube does not require a dedicated hardware encoder.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and prepare your feed
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Its minimum age for live streaming is 16. Check that the account you plan to use meets these requirements before configuring the stream. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance
Prepare two elements: a dark video image and an audible white-noise track. Create both yourself or use material you have permission to broadcast. Describe the sound accurately in the title and description. The steps below explain YouTube’s encoder workflow; the way you generate a black frame and noise depends on the software you choose.

Create the live stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream using the encoder workflow. Add the title, description, audience setting, and other broadcast details that apply to your channel.
- In Live Control Room, find the stream’s server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup uses these values to connect streaming software to the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
- Enter the server URL and stream key in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not share it publicly; regenerate it in YouTube Studio if you believe it has been exposed.
Configure and start the dark-screen feed
- In your encoder, set the video source to a black or near-black image and the audio source to your white-noise recording or synthesis. Confirm the encoder is sending both video and audio rather than a silent picture.
- Choose output settings supported by your encoder, connection, and YouTube’s current guidance. The YouTube pages cited here establish the server URL and key workflow, but do not prescribe a universal resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or noise-generation method for this specific stream. Use the current recommendations shown by YouTube and the documentation for your encoder rather than assuming one setting fits every setup.
- Start streaming from the encoder. Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room, then use its go-live control when the workflow requires it.
- Check the actual YouTube player. Listen for the noise, confirm the image is dark, and watch for clipping, silence, unintended imagery, or a dropped connection. Encoder monitoring and reconnect behavior vary by software and setup; YouTube does not provide one universal 24/7 recovery recipe.
Choose how to keep it running overnight
A software encoder on a local computer is the simplest route if you already have suitable equipment and can keep the machine, power, and internet connection available. A dedicated hardware encoder is another option, but YouTube does not require one. Neither choice guarantees uninterrupted transmission: power loss, a network interruption, or an encoder crash can stop the feed. The cited official guidance does not benchmark these approaches or establish a particular device’s reliability.

If you use a local setup, keep a local recording if you need a replay, and monitor the stream when practical. Separate the goal of maintaining a live feed from the goal of preserving a complete archive.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 stream?
Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast as a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. For an archive, record locally and consider shorter broadcast sessions if YouTube’s archive is important to you. YouTube’s archive guidance

Copyright, originality, and monetization
Use audio and visuals you can broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even a creator with a license may need the rights holder to add the channel to a Content ID allowlist. Use an original noise recording or synthesis and an original dark visual, keep license records for any third-party material, and do not sample other channels’ audio. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance
Do not assume a repetitive stream will qualify for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and call for original, authentic content rather than content it considers mass-produced, generic, or repetitive. A static image paired with an unchanged noise loop deserves careful consideration under that policy; the policy does not establish in advance whether this exact format qualifies. YouTube says the policy was clarified on July 15, 2025, to state that inauthentic content includes repetitive or mass-produced content. YouTube channel monetization policies

For eligible channels, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live-stream revenue features. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve, and eligibility and content-policy status still matter. Do not plan on income from this format without first checking your channel’s eligibility and the current policy. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance
Common problems and fixes
- No stream preview appears: verify that the encoder is running and that the server URL and stream key match the broadcast in YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, replace it and update the encoder.
- The stream is live but silent: check that the encoder is using the intended audio source, that the source is not muted, and that the outgoing audio meter is active. Confirm sound in the YouTube player, not only in the encoder preview.
- The picture is not dark: inspect the encoder’s active video source and the player output. Make sure a desktop capture, media source, or other scene element is not appearing over the black image.
- The feed drops: check the computer or encoder’s power, internet connection, and software status. Restarting the encoder may restore the feed, but recovery behavior depends on the setup; verify the stream in Live Control Room after reconnecting.
- The stream is interrupted for a rights match: remove the matched material and review the notice. Use only original or cleared audio and imagery; a license may not prevent interruption unless the rights holder has allowlisted the channel in Content ID.
- No full replay is available: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Make a local recording and use shorter sessions when YouTube’s automatic archive is needed.
