To make 24 React and Vite calculators eligible for Google Search, publish useful HTML at each calculator’s own URL, link routes with standard <a href> elements, and ensure each route returns the right metadata and HTTP status on a direct request. Prerendering supports that goal, but does not guarantee that Google will index every page or increase impressions.
How Google processes JavaScript calculator pages
Google describes JavaScript page processing in three stages: crawling, rendering, and indexing. A page’s initial HTML may be only an app shell, with calculator content added after JavaScript runs. Google queues eligible pages for rendering, and that rendering may happen after the initial fetch. Because prerendering can make useful content available sooner to crawlers and users—and some bots cannot run JavaScript—serving meaningful HTML for each public calculator route is a practical publishing choice. Google’s JavaScript SEO documentation explains this process; it does not promise a ranking benefit.
Choose how each calculator’s HTML is served
For a toolkit with 24 routes, the key question is when the calculator’s useful content appears in the response and how the deployment handles each URL. Google’s guidance supports prerendering as an option but does not prescribe a Vite-specific method or benchmark rendering strategies.
| Approach | When useful HTML is available | Without client JavaScript | Data and request behavior | Route and deployment considerations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Client-side rendering | After the browser runs JavaScript and renders the app | The initial response may contain only an app shell | Content can be assembled in the browser; the approach alone does not define whether data is static or request-specific | Direct routes still need correct hosting behavior, metadata, and status codes; rendering depends on JavaScript execution |
| Prerendering or static generation | In the generated HTML served for each route | Meaningful content can be available in the document before client code runs | Well suited to content known at build time; changes require updating and redeploying generated output | Generate and serve a document for every intended route, and configure unknown paths to return a genuine 404 where supported |
| Server-side rendering | When the server renders a response for a request | Meaningful HTML can be included in the response | Can reflect request-time data, depending on implementation | Requires a server-rendering setup and correct per-route responses; the cited Google guidance does not prescribe a particular stack |
This is a practical distinction, not a performance comparison: no benchmark or universally best approach is established here. For calculators whose explanatory content and initial page structure are stable, route-specific prerendered HTML can give crawlers a useful document before client-side interaction loads.

Build 24 genuinely useful, distinct routes
Plan the route inventory
List every intended public URL and, for each calculator, record its audience, task, inputs, outputs, and explanatory content. The number of routes is not itself a reason to publish a page. Avoid near-duplicates that differ only in wording or a minor label; each page should answer a meaningfully distinct calculation need.
Generate HTML for every public route
At build time, produce a document for each intended calculator URL. Include the page’s meaningful explanation and route-specific metadata in that HTML, then let the React application hydrate or load so visitors can use the interactive calculator. Do not rely on the home page being visited first: a person or crawler requesting a calculator URL directly should receive that route’s document.

Use ordinary links for discovery
Link from relevant index or category pages with standard HTML anchors containing an href for each calculator route. For client-side navigation, use ordinary route URLs and the History API rather than URL fragments to represent different page content. Google says it can discover links formatted as HTML <a href> elements; these links also make the toolkit easier for visitors to navigate.
Give each route its own metadata and canonical
Every calculator page needs a descriptive, distinct HTML <title> and meta description that accurately describe that calculator. Set its canonical URL to the route intended to represent the page. Keep the canonical in the original HTML consistent with any later JavaScript behavior; Google advises against changing it in JavaScript to a different value from the one specified in the original HTML.

Include the content and internal links you want considered for indexing in the HTML Google can render. Metadata should describe the actual page, not promise results the calculator does not provide.
Return correct responses for valid and missing routes
Test direct requests to both known calculator paths and a path that does not exist. A valid calculator route should serve its intended prerendered document. An unknown route should return a real 404 where the hosting platform supports it—not a successful response that displays an error message. Google identifies 404 as appropriate for a missing page and 401 for a page behind a login. A successful-looking error page can be treated as a soft 404.

Client-routed single-page applications can make meaningful status codes difficult to return. Configure the host so known static routes resolve to their generated documents and missing routes are not mistaken for valid pages. Direct-request behavior is an implementation requirement inferred from Google’s crawl and route guidance, not a Vite-specific rule.

JavaScript can generate JSON-LD, but add structured data only when the calculator page’s visible content qualifies for the relevant feature. Markup must match what visitors can see; it is not a substitute for useful content, correct routes, or indexing eligibility, and validation does not guarantee a search enhancement.

Use Google’s JavaScript SEO documentation for the recommended validation tools: the Rich Results Test for relevant structured data and Search Console’s URL Inspection Tool to inspect rendered HTML and indexing status.
Inspect the deployed toolkit route by route
- Check the raw response. Request each of the 24 public URLs directly. Confirm the response serves that calculator’s document, rather than requiring navigation from the home page.
- Check the rendered page. In Search Console’s URL Inspection Tool, examine whether the intended explanation, page links, and metadata are present in rendered HTML.
- Check metadata and canonicals. Verify the title, description, and canonical are specific to the route and consistent in the original document.
- Check navigation. Follow links from relevant index or category pages and confirm they use ordinary
hrefURLs for each calculator. - Check status behavior. Confirm known routes work when requested directly and a nonexistent route returns a genuine
404where supported. - Validate eligible structured data. Run the Rich Results Test for markup that matches the page’s visible content, then inspect the deployed URL after material template or build changes.
- Measure outcomes. Track impressions and clicks by route in Search Console over time. Technical correctness makes discovery and indexing more achievable; it cannot ensure that all pages are indexed or maximize impressions.
Keep generated pages and assets current
When calculator content or templates change, rebuild and redeploy the affected HTML. Google notes that Googlebot may cache resources aggressively and that its Web Rendering Service may ignore caching headers. Fingerprinted JavaScript and CSS filenames help ensure changed assets are fetched under new names, so asset naming and deployment caching belong in the release process as well as the page template.
