Maintain an electric scooter by checking it before rides, testing its brakes in a safe place, inspecting and correctly inflating its tires, and following the manufacturer’s charging and storage instructions. Pressure targets, replacement limits, and battery-care routines vary by model, so use your scooter’s manual or markings rather than a generic setting.
Inspect the scooter before each ride
Before setting off, look over the scooter for visible damage and check that key components appear secure and work normally. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends checking brakes, tires, and other key components and following the manufacturer’s directions: CPSC micromobility device safety guidance.
- Look for visible damage to the tires, brake components, and other parts.
- Check pneumatic tire pressure against the value specified for your exact scooter.
- Test the brakes cautiously in a safe area before riding in traffic or on a busy path.
Check that the brakes work as expected
Use a cautious test to confirm the brake controls engage and the scooter slows in a controlled way. Learn how your scooter responds before relying on it in a situation that requires a quick stop. CPSC notes that stopping distance varies significantly from scooter to scooter, so there is no single stopping-distance expectation that applies to every model: CPSC electric-scooter safety alert.
If braking distance becomes noticeably longer or a basic adjustment does not resolve the problem, stop riding until the scooter has been checked. Navee says internal wear or damage to a drum or disc brake may be involved; consult the service instructions for your model or an authorized repair center rather than guessing at a repair. Do not lubricate brake surfaces or apply adjustment steps intended for a different scooter.

Inspect tires and use the correct pressure
For pneumatic tires, check pressure with a gauge and compare it with the marking on the tire or the manual for the exact model. A digital tire pressure gauge can help you measure pressure; it does not tell you what pressure your scooter requires. The manufacturer’s specification is the reference.
How often you should check depends on the scooter’s guidance and use. For its S65, Navee recommends checking monthly, when low pressure is suspected, and before riding after the scooter has been parked for more than 30 days. Its undated S65 maintenance guidance gives a standard range of 42–48 PSI (290–330 kPa). Pure Electric’s 2026 guidance specifies 36 PSI (2.5 bar) for its scooter. These are product-specific values, not universal settings.

Inspect the tire surface for cracks, bulges, embedded objects, and tread wear. Replace a worn or damaged tire according to the criteria for your model, and use only a compatible replacement. Navee’s S65 guidance includes a tread-depth replacement threshold of 0.8 mm; do not apply that threshold to other scooters. Pure also advises replacing worn or damaged tires. A similar appearance alone does not establish that a tire fits or is suitable.

Follow the scooter maker’s charging instructions. Use only the supplied charger or one the manufacturer recommends, stay present while charging, and unplug the scooter when charging is complete. CPSC’s September 4, 2025 announcement states: “Always be present when charging micromobility products, never while sleeping, and only use the supplied charger.” See CPSC micromobility battery charging safety.

If a battery needs replacement, use a pack the scooter maker has tested and approved for the device and confirmed as suitable. CPSC advises against modified packs and repurposed or used cells. Do not assume a battery is compatible because it fits physically.
For long-term storage, follow the battery instructions for your scooter rather than applying another brand’s routine. For example, Navee’s V25i Pro guidance says to recharge every 60 days during long-term storage and to disconnect promptly when fully charged; Pure recommends storing its product at around 50–70% charge and topping it up every few weeks. These examples differ, which is why the manual for your model matters. Navee also recommends a dry, well-ventilated storage area.

When to stop and get service
Do not continue riding when a brake fault, tire damage, or other visible problem could compromise control. Check the exact model’s service instructions for owner-permitted maintenance. If the cause is unclear, the repair requires internal brake or battery work, or a suitable replacement part cannot be confirmed, contact an authorized repair center or the manufacturer.
