To lure Alfred into the carrier during the “Into the Valley of Death” side quest, place the carrier on the bedroom bed, start the bedroom keyboard or piano, remove every potted plant from the room, then leave the apartment area and wait for Langston’s confirmation. After the dialogue finishes, return to the bedroom and pick up the carrier.
Set up the bedroom
- Place the carrier on the bed. Set it on the bedroom bed, in the room near the working television.
- Start the music. Interact with the keyboard or piano in the bedroom and use the on-screen prompt. Guides call the instrument a keyboard, piano, or synth; follow the prompt on the instrument in your target room.
- Remove every potted plant. Check the entire bedroom and clear all visible pots. Walkthroughs disagree about the number: some specify four, while others mention two or three. Clearing the room avoids relying on a disputed count.
Leave the apartment and wait for Langston
Once the bedroom is set, leave the apartment area so Alfred has time to approach the carrier. Do not stay in the room waiting for the objective to advance; the guides describe leaving as part of the trigger sequence.

For a more specific departure, NerdsChalk describes stepping onto the exterior walkway, dropping to a lower tier, crossing a catwalk, and continuing along the outside balcony while waiting for Langston’s call. Other walkthroughs simply say to leave the apartment or head toward the main Sinkhole area. The detailed balcony route is one guide’s reported path; the available walkthroughs do not establish that every traversal segment is required.

Return after the confirmation
Wait outside for Langston to call or otherwise confirm that Alfred has arrived. Let the dialogue finish, then go back to the bedroom and pick up the carrier. Picking it up after the confirmation advances the objective.
