You can run a 24/7 Hindi music stream by looping authorized audio on an India-based VPS with FFmpeg and sending it to YouTube over RTMP. Run FFmpeg under a service manager such as systemd so it can restart after a process or server restart, and monitor the live broadcast in YouTube Studio. This setup does not provide music rights or guarantee uninterrupted uptime.

Before you set up the stream: clear the music rights

Make sure you have the rights required for every sound recording and musical composition in your playlist, for the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must have the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms; the exact permissions needed depend on the songs, recordings, territories and use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder or warning, then interruption or termination if the content remains. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruptions. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

India’s Copyright Act includes definitions of “musical work” and “communication to the public.” The latter addresses making a work available to the public by diffusion, whether or not anyone actually listens. These definitions do not establish that a particular playlist is licensed or lawful. Consult the current law and a qualified adviser for specific circumstances; the official text is at the Government of India’s Copyright Act page.

What you need

  • A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio; requirements can depend on the account, and no particular account has been checked here.
  • An Ubuntu VPS or another Linux server with enough capacity and network throughput for your chosen media and stream. The implementation example below does not establish a minimum server size or verify any provider in India.
  • FFmpeg installed on the VPS, your authorized audio files, and a YouTube stream key.
  • A way to keep FFmpeg running and inspect its logs, such as systemd.

A server in India is an implementation choice, not a YouTube requirement, and its location alone does not guarantee reach or reliability for viewers. The setup pattern here follows a public, third-party FFmpeg 24/7 streaming example; it is not an official YouTube recipe or independently tested procedure.

Choose a single loop or a playlist

Approach When it fits Trade-off
One media file You want the simplest rotation and have a prepared file that can repeat cleanly. Every loop repeats the same sequence; a poor edit or silence at the file boundary recurs.
Playlist or rotation You want more control over song order or variety. You must manage the playlist and confirm the files play as intended. The cited example does not establish comparative reliability or performance.

Prepare and test your authorized media before taking the stream live. If you combine tracks into one file, check the transitions and ending-to-beginning boundary. If you use a playlist, verify its order and that every referenced file is available on the server.

Set up the VPS stream

  1. Enable live streaming and get the ingest details. In YouTube Studio, configure a live broadcast and retrieve its ingest endpoint and stream key. Confirm the channel’s current eligibility and the controls shown in Studio; labels and availability may vary by account or change over time.
  2. Install and prepare FFmpeg. Install FFmpeg using the package method appropriate to your Linux distribution. Put the authorized media on the server and ensure the account that will run FFmpeg can read it. The public example uses -stream_loop -1 to repeat media and RTMP to send the feed, but no tested, universal command or encoding settings are established here. Choose compatible input, audio encoding and output settings for your media and YouTube’s current ingest guidance rather than copying an unverified command blindly.
  3. Send the feed to YouTube. Run FFmpeg with the media input, loop behavior and YouTube RTMP ingest destination, using the stream key as a secret. Verify that YouTube Studio reports the incoming feed before starting or publishing the broadcast as configured there.
  4. Run FFmpeg as a service. Configure systemd or another service manager to start the process at boot and restart it after a failure. Confirm the service’s status and inspect its logs after starting it. A restart policy helps recover a process; it does not guarantee server, network, or YouTube availability.
  5. Monitor the broadcast. Check YouTube Studio for stream health and watch the service logs for FFmpeg errors. After any restart, confirm that the feed reconnects and the broadcast is still in the expected state.

Protect the stream key

Treat the key like a password. Do not commit it to a public repository or paste it into publicly visible logs or screenshots. Store it in a restricted configuration or environment file accessible only to the service account. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the VPS configuration.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that the channel is eligible for live streaming, the ingest endpoint and key match the broadcast, and the VPS can reach the endpoint. Review FFmpeg’s logs for connection or input errors.
  • FFmpeg exits or the stream stops: Check the service status and logs, confirm the media path is valid and readable, and verify that the server has not run out of resources or lost network access. A systemd restart can relaunch a failed process, but it cannot remedy a persistent cause.
  • The stream starts but audio is missing or unusable: Check that FFmpeg is reading the intended audio stream and that the output format is accepted by YouTube. Test the exact media and settings before relying on the stream for continuous playback.
  • YouTube warns, replaces or interrupts the live feed: Treat a third-party-content notice as a rights issue, not merely an encoding error. Confirm permissions for the recording and composition and ask the relevant rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
  • The service restarts but the broadcast does not recover: Check both the FFmpeg process and YouTube Studio. Process recovery does not prove that YouTube has resumed the live broadcast; investigate the ingest connection and Studio status.
