There isn’t one universal location: the power control on a Philips Smart TV may be on a side edge, underneath the lower edge, or on the back. Look for a small button or joystick marked with a power symbol, then check the manual for your exact model to confirm its location and operation.
Where to look for the power button
Check these areas on the TV itself:
- Along the left or right side edges
- Under the bottom edge
- On the rear panel, including near a lower corner
The control may be a single button or a small joystick. Philips manuals and support pages show different layouts across models, so a location that fits one Philips TV may not fit yours. Find the model number on the TV’s label or paperwork and look up its matching Philips manual for the exact diagram. Philips manuals and product support
What the TV button does
Depending on the model, a button or joystick may turn the TV off, switch it between power states, or navigate and select items in the on-screen menu. The remote’s power key may put the TV into standby while the TV-body control performs a different action. Follow the instructions for your model rather than assuming the controls work the same way on every Philips set.

If the TV will not turn on
Test the TV’s physical control and the remote separately. If the TV turns on with its own button but not with the remote, the remote may be the problem. Philips recommends checking the batteries and pointing the remote toward the TV from nearby. Remote functions and battery requirements can vary, so check the manual for your model. If the TV’s physical control also fails, check the power connection. Philips support gives model-specific advice that may include checking the outlet and, where applicable, connecting the TV without a surge protector. These checks do not establish the cause of every power problem; use the guidance for your exact model.

On some older Philips models, the remote does not operate the TV when it is fully off and no front LED is lit. The model-specific support instructions say to use the TV’s side power button to switch it to standby or on; if its LED then glows red, use the remote to turn it on. Apply that sequence only if your model and indicators match the instructions. Philips support: TV does not switch on
Standby is not the same as unplugging
A Philips manual distinguishes standby from switching the set off with its joystick: in the described model, the joystick switches the TV off while it remains connected to mains power. To disconnect power completely, unplug the TV. The manual states: “To switch off the TV completely, disconnect the power plug.” Philips user manual

Find instructions for your exact model
Use the TV’s model number—not just the Philips brand name—to find the correct manual. Philips notes that remote-key functions are listed in the user manual, and the manual’s control diagram and power instructions can clarify whether your TV has a button or joystick and what each action does.
