To find a missing Samsung Galaxy, open SmartThings Find or Samsung Find, sign in with the Samsung account already on the device, and select the phone. If it is nearby, use Ring. If its location suggests theft, do not go there yourself—Samsung advises contacting authorities. You can lock the device remotely; erase it only when recovery seems unlikely and protecting its data outweighs losing future location access.

Find your Galaxy with Samsung Find or SmartThings Find

  1. On another phone, tablet, or computer, open SmartThings Find or Samsung Find. You can also use the relevant app on another Galaxy device.
  2. Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone. The phone must have been registered to that account and have Samsung remote controls enabled.
  3. Select the missing device from the list. Check the location and when it was reported. A map pin is the device’s reported location at that time, not a guarantee it is still there.
  4. Choose the action that fits the situation: Ring if it is likely nearby, Track location if you need updates on a moving device, or Lock to protect access.

Samsung says Ring sounds for one minute even if the phone is muted or set to vibrate. Its Track location feature provides updates every 15 minutes. Stop tracking when you no longer need updates.

What to do if the location points to theft

Do not travel to a map location or confront anyone if you suspect the phone was stolen. Samsung’s US support guide says: “If you are using SmartThings Find or Samsung Find to locate a stolen phone or tablet, do not go directly to the location on the map. Inform the authorities and let them retrieve it for you.” Samsung’s lost-device guide also recommends contacting your carrier about its options to suspend service or help locate the device.

Use Lock to restrict access while you work on recovery. Where offered, add a return message or emergency contact so someone who finds the phone can reach you without unlocking it.

Why the location may be unavailable or outdated

Samsung’s US guide says the phone should be turned on, connected to a stable network, linked to a Samsung account, and configured with remote controls. If it is powered off, Samsung Find or SmartThings Find shows only its last known location. Settings and screens can vary by carrier, software version, and model.

Offline finding is not the same as finding a phone with no power

If enabled beforehand, Samsung Offline finding may help when the phone is disconnected from the internet. The missing device emits a signal that nearby Galaxy devices can detect; that information is sent to Samsung’s server, where an encrypted offline location can be made accessible to the owner. The feature depends on the setting being enabled and a detectable signal reaching another Galaxy device. It is not a way to locate every powered-off phone.

Try Google Find Hub as a second route

Google Find Hub is another built-in Android recovery option. Sign in with the Google account on the missing phone and select the device. Google lists these conditions for remotely securing or erasing it: the phone must have power, mobile data or Wi-Fi, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and visibility on Google Play.

With offline finding enabled, Find Hub may show an encrypted recent location or use its crowdsourced finding network, depending on the device and settings. Google says some supported devices can remain findable for several hours after power-off; that capability is device-specific and should not be assumed for every Galaxy model. Samsung Offline finding instead relies on nearby Galaxy devices detecting the missing phone’s signal.

When to lock or erase the phone

Lock it while recovery is still possible

Locking helps protect access without immediately giving up on locating the device. Follow the prompts in Samsung Find, SmartThings Find, or Find Hub, and use a return message or emergency contact option if available.

Erase only when data protection outweighs recovery

Remote erase is a last resort: it deletes data, and erasing through Google Find Hub makes the device’s location unavailable through that service. Samsung advises backing up data before resetting when possible. If Samsung remote erasure cannot be completed, Samsung recommends changing passwords for accounts signed in on the phone. A Google account registered on the device will be required to sign in after a reset as part of Google’s device protection.

Prepare your Galaxy before it goes missing

  • Keep the phone associated with your Samsung account and enable Samsung remote controls.
  • Turn on Allow this phone to be found, Send last location, and Offline finding if those options are available on your model.
  • Check that Find Hub is enabled for the Google account on the device and that the phone is visible on Google Play.
  • Save the Samsung and Google account sign-in details somewhere accessible from another device.

A Samsung SmartTag may help track belongings when configured in advance, but it cannot retroactively locate a phone that has already gone missing.
