You can create localized versions of an existing product demo without filming it again: upload the finished video to a service that supports dubbing or translation, review its transcript, choose the languages and voice treatment, then export or share each version. Captions, translated audio, and lip sync are separate choices. Lip sync changes a visible speaker’s mouth movements; it is often unnecessary for screen recordings and voiceovers.
What an AI video translator changes—and what it does not
AI localization services can work from footage recorded elsewhere. For example, Synthesia documents dubbing videos made outside its platform, and LipDub describes a workflow for uploading already-shot footage, editing translated lines, choosing a voice, and optionally applying lip sync. These are vendor-described capabilities, not a guarantee that every source file or language will be supported.

- Dubbed audio: Replace or supplement the original spoken track with generated speech in another language.
- Lip sync: Adjust a visible speaker’s mouth movements to better match the dubbed speech. It is most relevant when a presenter is shown speaking; it is optional when the video is mainly a screen capture or voiceover.
These outputs are not interchangeable. Vimeo says its translation feature can create new audio and caption tracks without changing how speakers look on screen. LipDub and Synthesia describe optional lip-sync functionality.

A practical workflow for localizing a recorded demo
- Check the source video and service limits. Start with your finished demo. Confirm the provider accepts its file type, size, duration, resolution, and source language. As one provider-specific example, Synthesia documents MP4, WEBM, and MOV uploads up to 5 GB or 2.5 hours, as well as YouTube links. Do not assume those limits apply to other services.
- Generate the transcript, then correct it. Check product and company names, model numbers, interface labels, technical terms, and calls to action. Errors in the transcript can carry through into translation and generated speech. If available, add approved terminology to a glossary. LipDub describes editing translated lines before generating audio; Synthesia documents workspace glossaries and says transcript editing in its workflow is an Enterprise feature.
- Select target languages and voice treatment. Depending on the service, you may be able to use a stock voice, generated speech, or a cloned voice. Check the provider’s terms and obtain appropriate authorization from the speaker before using voice cloning. The vendor descriptions establish that voice features exist, not that a particular use is legally permitted.
- Choose captions, dubbing, and lip sync deliberately. Captions can suit a demo where preserving the original narration matters. Dubbing gives viewers localized spoken instructions. Add lip sync if a visible presenter’s mouth movement is important to the finished video. For a screen recording with voiceover, captions or dubbing may be enough.
- Preview the whole localized demo. Listen for pronunciation, pacing, and audio-level problems; check subtitle timing; and look for mismatches between narration and the on-screen interface. Make sure each spoken instruction still corresponds to the button, menu, or feature shown. Vendor pages describe preview and editing controls, but do not establish how accurately every service handles every video.
- Export or distribute each version. Before publishing, confirm the selected plan’s resolution, watermark, usage rights, and download or sharing options. A hosted, embeddable link may fit a website demo; downloaded files may fit an existing campaign workflow.
How to compare AI video localization services
Compare the complete workflow, not just the advertised language count. A service may support a language for captions but have different voice or lip-sync availability. Plan access, file limits, and billing can also change what a particular team can actually use.
| Decision | What to verify | Documented examples |
|---|---|---|
| Output type | Whether captions, dubbed audio, and lip sync are available—and whether they are included in the plan. | Vimeo describes audio and caption tracks without changing speaker appearance; LipDub and Synthesia describe optional lip sync. |
| Translation review | Whether you can edit transcript or translated lines and preserve product terminology with a glossary. | LipDub describes a translation editor. Synthesia documents glossary use and limits transcript editing to Enterprise in its documented workflow. |
| Languages | Whether the target language, dialect, and required voice treatment are supported for the specific output you need. | LipDub states 80+ languages; Synthesia states 130+ languages. These are vendor-stated figures, and feature coverage may vary. |
| Video compatibility | Accepted formats, maximum size and duration, resolution, and support for links as well as uploads. | Synthesia documents MP4, WEBM, and MOV uploads up to 5 GB or 2.5 hours, plus YouTube links. Those are its stated limits, not a general standard. |
| Cost and plan access | Subscription charges, usage or per-minute fees, credit consumption, and whether lip sync costs extra. | LipDub lists dubbing and lip sync separately per minute. Synthesia says lip sync consumes twice as many credits and is unavailable on Basic. |
| Distribution | Whether you need downloadable files, hosted sharing, or an embeddable player. | Vimeo describes sharing through an embeddable link. |
