To livestream pre-recorded videos on YouTube around the clock, send a looping playlist to YouTube Live through an encoder such as OBS, or use a cloud service to run the stream without leaving a computer on. Before starting, enable live streaming on your channel, configure the stream key and compatible encoder settings, and confirm you have rights to every video and audio track.
How do I livestream pre-recorded videos on YouTube 24/7?
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder; it does not turn a normal video upload into a continuous live broadcast by itself. With a local setup, OBS plays and loops your video files while sending the feed to YouTube Live. With cloud playout, a service runs that process for you. The local method offers direct control and can use a computer you already own; cloud operation avoids maintaining a dedicated streaming computer.
Option 1: Run a looping playlist with OBS
Use this route if you have a computer and internet connection that can remain available for the stream. OBS can play a single media file or use a VLC Video Source for a playlist. VLC must be installed to use that OBS source.
- Enable YouTube Live. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Create or schedule the live stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and copy its stream URL and stream key into OBS. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Reset it if it is compromised. YouTube explains stream setup and keys in its encoder streaming instructions.
- Add your video or playlist in OBS. For one file, add a Media Source. For a rotation of files, add a VLC Video Source and choose the playlist files. Enable Loop Playlist so OBS restarts playback when it runs out of media. Add enough clips to make the rotation suitable for your audience; looping one short video can make the broadcast repetitive.
- Set output and connection values. Configure an output resolution and frame rate your computer and sustained upload connection can support. Use a YouTube-recommended bitrate for that resolution and frame rate (see the settings table below). Select RTMPS where available and set CBR encoding and a 2-second keyframe interval.
- Test and start the stream. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the incoming feed and stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room before sharing the viewing link. Test representative motion and audio, not only a static opening frame.
- Check rights and archive needs. Clear every video and audio track for the intended use and territory. If you need YouTube’s automatic archive, end each session before it reaches 12 hours; YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and does not promise an archive for longer streams.
Option 2: Use cloud playout
A cloud service runs the encoder process outside your home or office, so the stream does not depend on a dedicated local computer staying on. You still need to manage your videos, rights, and YouTube stream configuration. YouTube’s verified-encoder directory lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams, but the directory is a service description rather than a feature or reliability comparison. Check current playlist controls, restart behavior, pricing, and terms with a provider before choosing it.

The same directory lists Upstream.so as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming, but its listing does not establish prerecorded playlist behavior in detail. Confirm that it supports your exact workflow before relying on it. For hardware-based scheduled playback, AJA describes the HELO Plus PlayToStream feature as sending scheduled prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer; the cited description does not establish all the controls needed for an unattended 24/7 loop.
Which YouTube and OBS settings matter?
YouTube’s published guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. The following H.264 bitrate figures are YouTube’s recommendations for the specified resolution and frame rate, not a universal upload-speed target.

For both listed settings, choose CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds), and use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS because it encrypts stream data to Google’s servers. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings for other resolutions and frame rates; do not extrapolate the two examples above to settings not shown here.

The recommended bitrate is the encoder’s video bitrate, not a guarantee that your internet connection is adequate. Leave connection headroom for fluctuations and other household or office traffic, then watch YouTube’s stream-health indicator during a test. If health degrades, reduce the output bitrate or resolution until the feed is stable.
Copyright, live-stream rules, and archives
A video being pre-recorded does not exempt its live transmission from YouTube’s rules. YouTube requires streamers to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music rights. Its live-stream terms make the rights obligation the creator’s responsibility.
YouTube scans live feeds for third-party matches. A stream can be interrupted or terminated even if you believe you licensed the material; for licensed third-party content, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review the YouTube guidance on live-streaming restrictions and YouTube Terms of Service before broadcasting.

There is also an archive tradeoff for long-running channels: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you want a replay, plan shorter sessions and restart the broadcast rather than assuming a stream running longer than 12 hours will be saved.

If you lack a computer that can stay on, a mini PC for OBS livestreaming is one possible hardware route, but buying one may be unnecessary if you can use an existing computer or choose cloud playout.

The channel cannot go live
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation before treating the delay as an encoder fault.

YouTube receives no signal
Confirm OBS is using the stream URL and current key from the intended Live Control Room stream. Check that streaming is started in OBS and that the connection is not blocked or interrupted. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
The playlist stops at the end
In the OBS VLC Video Source properties, enable Loop Playlist. If you are using a different source or cloud provider, confirm that its playback mode is set to repeat rather than stop after the final file.

The stream health is poor or playback buffers
Check the actual output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate against the available sustained upload capacity. Try a lower bitrate or resolution, use a wired connection where practical, and test again while monitoring the Live Control Room. A recommended bitrate is not a promise that a variable connection can sustain it.

The stream is interrupted for a rights match
Stop and identify the matched material. Confirm that your permission covers livestreaming on YouTube and the relevant territory; if the rights holder licensed the material, ask them about allowlisting your channel in Content ID. Do not assume a license alone prevents an automated interruption.
No archive appears after a long session
For an archive, schedule sessions under 12 hours. YouTube’s automatic-archive guidance applies to streams shorter than that threshold; it does not guarantee an archive for longer broadcasts.

Can I use a video with licensed music in a 24/7 stream?
Only if your rights cover the live transmission and the intended territory; YouTube may still interrupt a matched feed unless the rights holder allowlists your channel in Content ID.
Can a 24/7 stream also produce a YouTube replay?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for a replay, plan shorter sessions rather than assuming a longer broadcast will be saved.
