You can limit several forms of ad personalization using Android’s built-in settings—no extra app is required. The controls cover ad topics, app-suggested ads, ad measurement and the advertising ID. They do not turn off ads or stop every way an app might collect or use information.
Where to find Android’s ad privacy settings
On Android, open Settings > Google > All services > Privacy & security > Ads > Ads privacy. Menu names and availability can vary by device, Android version and rollout. If you cannot find the path, search Settings for “Ads.” Google’s Android ad privacy instructions describe these controls.
What each built-in control does
Review the options individually. They address different ad-related mechanisms rather than acting as a single switch for all tracking.

Google notes that whether an ad is personalized can depend on these settings, advertising ID settings and the policies of the apps you use.

Reset or delete the advertising ID
Google documents advertising ID actions under Settings > Privacy > Ads; on some devices, the broader Settings search or Google-services path may lead you to the relevant controls. Follow the labels shown on your device. Google’s Advertising ID guidance says that on supported newer devices, a deleted ID is removed and requests to access it return zeros. Apps may have their own settings, and other information may still be used.
Resetting gives you a new advertising ID; deleting removes the identifier where supported. Google’s Google Play services for ads safety information describes identifier and personalization controls and notes that some ads-safety features work only on Android 9 and later.

What these settings do not stop
These are limits on specific Android-managed advertising features, not a promise of no ads or no tracking. Google Play policy requires apps to respect ad-personalization opt-outs and prohibits using the advertising ID for ad profiling or personalized targeting after opt-out. The policy still permits contextual advertising and certain measurement and security uses. Apps may also use their own settings or other information, so an ad can still appear and data use can continue.

If your concern includes location, review which apps have location permission in Android Settings and check available data-sharing notices. Google explains how to find out whether Android apps share location data. A missing notice does not prove an app does not share location data; permission review and sharing disclosures are separate checks from ad privacy controls.
