To leave the SteamVR beta, open Steam’s Library, right-click SteamVR, choose Properties, open Game Versions & Betas, and set the beta participation menu to None (or the equivalent no-beta option). Steam may then download the current public files before SteamVR starts on the stable branch.
What changing the setting actually does
SteamVR can be installed from more than one software branch. The beta branch is an optional update path for the SteamVR application. The public or stable branch is the current version Steam distributes to users who have not selected a beta depot. Moving back to stable changes the branch associated with SteamVR; it does not erase your Steam library, remove the Steam client, or automatically change the beta status of other games.
The setting belongs to the SteamVR library entry. That detail matters because Steam also has a separate beta program for the desktop client. A user can have the Steam client on its ordinary channel while SteamVR is on its beta branch, or vice versa. Choose the setting that matches the software you want to change.

Open the Steam desktop client and select Library. The branch selector is available from the SteamVR entry in the library, rather than from a general account page.

Find SteamVR in your library. Right-click the entry and select Properties. If SteamVR is running, close it first so the client can apply any pending branch change cleanly.

In the Properties window, open Game Versions & Betas. This is the SteamVR-specific page where Valve places the branch selector. Steam documents this location in its SteamVR beta guide.

Open the beta participation drop-down. Choose None, or the option that explicitly indicates that no beta is selected. The opt-in entry is named “Beta – SteamVR Beta Update”. Selecting the no-beta choice removes SteamVR from that branch and tells Steam to use the current public version.

Close the Properties window and let Steam apply the change. Start SteamVR only after any download or update shown by Steam has finished.
Steam’s labels can change slightly as the client is updated. Do not select an option merely because its wording looks similar to the beta name. The important result is that the menu shows None or another clear no-beta designation, not Beta – SteamVR Beta Update.
What to do if the selector looks different
Different Steam client layouts can place familiar controls in slightly different visual positions, but the route remains the SteamVR library entry, its Properties window, and the Game Versions & Betas page. If you opened Properties for another application, close that window and repeat the process from SteamVR itself. The setting is app-specific, so changing a different title will not change SteamVR’s branch.
Read the complete drop-down rather than relying on a remembered position. The no-beta choice may be displayed as None or an equivalent phrase. Confirm the selection before closing Properties. If the window does not appear to reflect the change, reopen Properties and check the menu again.
What Steam does after you opt out
Changing a title from a beta depot to the public depot can require Steam to download the current public files. Valve’s general beta-depot guidance says that choosing None returns a title to its current public version and may trigger a re-download. That guidance explains the general behavior; it does not provide a SteamVR-specific download size or duration.
In practice, the visible update state is more useful than a guessed time estimate. Steam may show SteamVR downloading, updating, or otherwise processing files. Keep the client open and allow that operation to finish. The amount of work can depend on which files differ between the branches, so a precise size or completion time cannot be stated reliably for SteamVR.

Avoid judging the result from a shortcut or headset prompt while the client still shows an update in progress.

When Steam shows SteamVR as ready to play, start it and test the behavior that prompted you to leave the beta.
Returning to the public branch does not guarantee that a particular crash, tracking problem, startup failure, or performance issue will disappear. It changes which SteamVR build is installed. A defect that exists in the public build, a driver conflict, or a room-setup problem can remain after the branch switch.
SteamVR beta and Steam Client beta are different settings
Steam has separate beta controls for the SteamVR application and for the Steam client itself. Use the SteamVR Properties procedure above when you want stable SteamVR while leaving the rest of the Steam client unchanged.

If you only want to stop receiving SteamVR beta builds, do not change Client Beta Participation. That setting is relevant only if you also want to leave the Steam Client beta. Changing the client channel is a separate decision and is not required to return SteamVR to its public branch.
Conversely, if the Steam client itself is on a beta channel, changing SteamVR to None will not remove the client from that channel. Check each setting independently when diagnosing which software is receiving preview updates.
How to check that SteamVR is no longer on the beta branch

Return to Library, right-click SteamVR, and reopen Properties.

Wait for any pending SteamVR update to finish, then launch SteamVR again.
The selector is the authoritative place to check the branch choice. A problem that remains after the change may be unrelated to beta participation. If Steam begins another update after you reopen the menu, let it complete before drawing conclusions about which branch is installed.
Testing should be repeatable. Note the symptom that led you to leave beta, apply the branch change, wait for the public files to finish, and then perform the same basic action again. This does not prove the cause, but it helps separate a branch-related change from a problem that is present on both branches.
If SteamVR still has problems after leaving beta
Use troubleshooting that matches the symptom instead of assuming that switching branches should fix everything. Steam’s SteamVR troubleshooting index includes file verification, restarts, driver checks, Room Setup, Windows restarts, and safe-mode testing.
SteamVR will not start or behaves as though files are damaged

Wait for verification to complete, then restart SteamVR.

If the problem persists, restart the Steam client and try SteamVR again.
Verification checks the installed tool files; it does not change the beta selector by itself. After the repair operation, make sure the selector still reads None. A verification pass and a branch change are separate actions, so one should not be treated as confirmation of the other.
Tracking, display, or headset behavior is wrong

Check for graphics, headset, and other relevant device-driver updates.

Run Room Setup again when the issue involves playspace boundaries, floor height, or room alignment.

Restart Windows before repeating the test. Steam’s troubleshooting guidance includes a Windows restart because a driver or service state can survive a SteamVR restart.
Room Setup is relevant when the symptom concerns the configured room or playspace. It is not a replacement for changing the SteamVR branch, and rerunning it is not necessary merely because you selected None.

Steam’s troubleshooting guidance also suggests trying safe mode for persistent startup, crash, or responsiveness problems. Safe mode prevents some third-party drivers and components from loading, which can help identify whether an external component is involved. Because safe mode changes what is loaded, use it as a diagnostic step rather than as a permanent configuration.
If SteamVR works differently in safe mode, that observation points toward an interaction with a driver or third-party component, but it does not identify the exact component by itself. Record the symptom and the steps already tried when you seek support.
The problem continues on the public branch
If file verification, restarts, driver checks, Room Setup when applicable, and safe-mode testing do not resolve the issue, consult Steam Support with the symptom and the steps already attempted. Switching from beta to stable is a branch change, not a general repair procedure, so persistent issues may require a different fix.
A practical decision path

First, identify the target. If the goal is stable SteamVR, use the SteamVR library entry. If the goal is a stable Steam desktop client, use the separate Client Beta Participation setting.

Change only that setting. Select None for SteamVR and avoid changing unrelated application or client settings.

Escalate proportionally. Apply file verification, restarts, driver checks, Room Setup, or safe mode according to the symptom, then contact Steam Support if the issue remains.
This sequence prevents two common diagnostic errors: testing while Steam is still changing files and changing the Steam client beta when only SteamVR needed to be moved.

Rerunning every troubleshooting step automatically: match Room Setup, driver checks, restarts, or safe mode to the symptom instead of treating them as mandatory parts of opting out.

Does selecting None definitely install a SteamVR stable build?
It tells Steam to leave the selected beta depot and use the current public version. Let Steam finish any resulting file update, then verify that the SteamVR Properties menu still shows None or the no-beta option.
Will leaving the SteamVR beta remove the Steam client beta?
No. SteamVR’s branch selector and the Steam client’s Client Beta Participation control are separate. Change the client setting only if you also want the desktop Steam client on its public channel.

No SteamVR-specific size is established by Valve’s guidance. A branch change can require the current public files to be downloaded, but the amount depends on the files Steam needs to replace.
How long will the switch take?
There is no reliable SteamVR-specific duration to quote. The switch is complete when Steam finishes its update and shows SteamVR ready to launch. Do not interrupt the process simply because it takes longer than expected.
Can I launch SteamVR while the public files are downloading?
Wait until Steam finishes. Launching during file replacement can make it unclear whether you are testing the complete public installation.
Will switching to stable fix tracking or room-alignment problems?
It might change behavior if the beta build was involved, but there is no guarantee. For tracking, display, or alignment symptoms, Steam recommends checking relevant drivers, running Room Setup when applicable, and restarting Windows.
