To keep a YouTube podcast current as you publish episodes, connect its RSS feed in YouTube Studio if RSS delivery is available in your region. YouTube can upload new feed episodes automatically. That creates and maintains an episode catalog; it does not keep a literal live broadcast on air. For a continuously live YouTube channel, use an encoder-based live workflow instead.
Choose the workflow that matches what you mean by “stream”
| Goal | Use | What happens when you add an episode |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a podcast catalog updated | A YouTube podcast playlist connected to its RSS feed, where available | Eligible new feed episodes can upload automatically as videos, subject to your settings. |
| Broadcast continuously as a live channel | YouTube Live with an encoder | The encoder sends a live feed. Adding an RSS episode does not add it to the live broadcast. |
YouTube podcasts are playlists of full-length video episodes. For an audio-first show, RSS delivery can turn episodes into videos using the podcast artwork as a static image. An MP3 file alone cannot be added as a podcast episode in Studio; the episode must be represented by a video. Keep full episodes in the podcast playlist rather than mixing in Shorts or clips. See YouTube’s podcast creation guidance and podcast distribution guidance.
Connect an RSS feed to an existing YouTube podcast
RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries and regions. If the RSS option is not available in your account or location, you can still maintain the podcast by uploading video episodes and adding them to its playlist.
- Prepare the feed. Make sure it is the feed for the show and that it includes the episodes you want YouTube to publish. YouTube verifies feed ownership using a code sent to the feed owner’s email address.
- Open the podcast’s RSS settings. In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Podcasts, open the podcast’s Details, then choose RSS settings.
- Connect and verify the feed. Follow the prompts to submit the feed and enter the email verification code. The feed must be verified before YouTube can use it.
- Select episodes and set visibility. Choose the episodes to publish from the podcast’s details page. New feed episodes use the podcast’s default visibility, which can be private, unlisted, or public.
- Wait for uploads, then review before publishing. YouTube recommends letting selected episodes finish uploading and reviewing them for copyright or monetization issues before publishing the newly connected feed. Check the resulting videos and their order in the podcast playlist.

What happens when you add episodes later
New episodes can upload automatically
Once the feed is connected and the podcast is set up, new episodes added to the RSS feed can be uploaded to YouTube automatically. Eligible subscribers can be notified of new episodes. This depends on RSS availability and the feed and podcast settings.
Back-catalog episodes behave differently
Adding older episodes through RSS does not notify subscribers. If the podcast already has episodes published on YouTube, select feed episodes after the latest one already on YouTube to avoid creating duplicates.

Changing the feed audio does not replace a published video
If you replace an audio file in the feed, the audio in the existing YouTube video does not change. Use Re-upload from RSS feed to create a replacement. YouTube sets the previous video to private, while its views and comments remain available to you.

- If you edit episode details directly in Studio, later edits to those details in the RSS feed are blocked.
- Disconnecting the RSS feed stops new feed episodes from uploading.
- YouTube orders RSS-uploaded episodes in the podcast playlist by feed release date when present; otherwise it uses YouTube’s publish date. YouTube does not verify the feed’s release date. The Videos tab uses the YouTube upload date, so playlist order and upload-date order may differ, particularly when migrating an archive.
Keep the podcast compliant and organized
- Use the podcast playlist for full-length episodes and keep clips or Shorts separate.
- Review selected uploads for copyright and monetization issues before making them public.
- If an episode contains sponsorship, endorsements, or other branded content, disclose it using YouTube’s branded-content requirements and follow its policies.
- Remember that RSS delivery distributes the show on YouTube and YouTube Music only; it does not distribute the podcast to other listening platforms.
If you meant a literal 24/7 live broadcast
A live broadcast is a different setup from an RSS-updated podcast. YouTube’s live workflow uses Live Control Room and an encoder configured with the stream URL and stream key. You can reuse stream settings and configure auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube recommends testing, previewing, checking access, and monitoring audio and video quality; for higher-production events it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders. That recommendation does not mean every creator needs dedicated hardware, and YouTube’s guidance does not establish uninterrupted 24/7 uptime for this workflow. Common problems and what to check
- You cannot find RSS settings: RSS delivery is region-limited. Check whether it is available for your account; otherwise upload episode videos and add them to the podcast playlist.
- A new episode has not appeared: Check that the feed is still connected and verified, that the episode is present in the feed, and that its visibility setting is appropriate. A disconnected feed will not send new episodes.
- An old episode appears twice: When attaching a feed to a podcast with existing uploads, select only episodes after the latest episode already published on YouTube.
- An edited feed file did not change the YouTube episode: Existing published audio is not replaced in place. Use Re-upload from RSS feed if you need a replacement video.
- The playlist order differs from the Videos tab: RSS playlist ordering can use an unverified feed release date, while the Videos tab reflects YouTube upload date.
- The broadcast stops or never starts: For a live encoder workflow, verify the stream URL and key in the encoder, confirm that the live event is configured as intended, and preview and monitor the stream. RSS episode publishing is not a live encoder and cannot keep a live broadcast on air.
