To keep a YouTube fundraising livestream running around the clock, send a rights-cleared video or playlist through an encoder and set it to repeat. You can run the encoder on a computer you operate or use cloud playout. Before launch, test the stream and donation route, plan how you will preserve a replay, and make the fundraiser’s purpose and use of donations clear.
Choose how to run the stream
YouTube supports livestreaming through software or hardware encoders. With a local encoder, your equipment, power, internet connection, and encoder software must keep working. Cloud playout runs the uploaded playlist on a provider’s infrastructure, so a computer at home does not have to stay on. Either way, you remain responsible for the content, the YouTube channel, and the fundraising campaign.
Local encoder
A local setup gives you direct control over the encoder and playlist. It also makes you responsible for keeping the computer or hardware encoder powered, connected, configured, and monitored. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains how to create a stream and check its preview and health: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Cloud playout
A cloud service can loop uploaded media without relying on a computer at your location. Check the provider’s current controls, storage limits, pricing, and service terms before choosing one; provider descriptions are not independent reliability guarantees.

Set up the YouTube livestream
1. Check channel access and schedule the broadcast
- Verify the channel and make sure it has no live-streaming restrictions. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this check until the fundraiser is about to begin.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a livestream. Confirm its title, description, visibility, start time, and any fundraising details before sharing the watch page.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
YouTube’s setup steps and livestream requirements are described in its encoder setup guidance.
2. Configure video, audio, and connection settings
Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it; YouTube recommends it as the secure ingestion protocol. Set the resolution and bitrate to suit both the source files and the sustained upload capacity of the connection. Do not choose a bitrate based only on a brief speed test: a long broadcast needs a stable connection with room for normal variation. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all number.

Check the encoder’s keyframe and audio settings against YouTube’s current recommendations on that page. Keep the playlist’s file formats and audio levels consistent, and listen to transitions between files; a playlist can be technically live while a silent, clipped, or mismatched segment undermines the fundraiser.

- In the encoder or playout service, select the video or playlist and enable repeat or loop. Exact controls differ by product, so confirm the chosen files and loop behavior in that product’s own interface.
- Start a private or unlisted test broadcast if appropriate, then check the YouTube Studio preview and stream-health status. Watch and listen from the public-facing watch page as a viewer would.

- Verify the donation link or YouTube Giving fundraiser from the watch page, including on a separate device or browser. Make sure the campaign destination, recipient, and explanation match what you intend to tell viewers.
- Before going public, arrange who will monitor the stream, donation route, and chat, and how they will respond if the feed or fundraiser fails.

Plan the fundraising route
Decide how viewers can donate before promoting the livestream. YouTube Giving eligibility depends on channel and location requirements, while an external campaign is an option for channels that cannot use YouTube Giving.
| Route | What to check | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Giving | YouTube’s FAQ lists supported location, at least 10,000 subscribers, YouTube Partner Program membership, and a channel not designated made for kids as eligibility conditions. Check current eligibility and availability in Studio. | When a YouTube Giving fundraiser is attached to a scheduled livestream, eligible viewers can donate on the watch page or in live chat. Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable on streams with Live Chat Donations. YouTube says Google partners with Network for Good to collect and distribute donations and YouTube pays transaction fees; do not imply that the creator personally controls disbursement. |
| External fundraiser | YouTube names approved third-party fundraising sites such as GoFundMe and JustGiving as options for channels that cannot use YouTube Giving. Link directly to the actual campaign and explain who receives donations and how proceeds will be handled. | Make the recipient and purpose clear to viewers; do not imply YouTube processes donations made on an external site. |
| Creator revenue donation | You may tell viewers that you plan to donate earnings from specific videos. | Do not ask viewers to watch or click ads to increase the donation, and do not make claims about donations that are untrue. |
See YouTube’s YouTube Giving FAQs and fundraising guidance for the platform’s current conditions and advice.

Get rights and protect donor trust
YouTube’s livestream terms say, “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” They also require the rights needed to use the material worldwide on Google services, including music licensing rights, and compliance with applicable laws. Read the Livestream terms and conditions.

Use original material or material you are licensed to stream, including every music track, image, clip, and other visual element. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content, and a match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream or lead to interruption or termination. If you have permission, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Details are in YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Keep the appeal transparent. Do not make false donation claims, encourage artificial viewing or ad-clicking, or use another creator’s work without sufficient rights and changes. YouTube’s fundraising guidance addresses these practices.
A repeated playlist is not automatically prohibited based on the cited policy, but monetization is not guaranteed. YouTube says its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content falls under that policy. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Plan the archive separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says encoder livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not guarantee one complete automatic archive for a stream left running continuously beyond that duration. If a full replay matters, plan shorter sessions and preserve source files or recordings as appropriate; coordinate any session changes so the fundraising information and viewer-facing schedule remain accurate. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTroubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder cannot start the broadcast | Livestreaming is not enabled, the channel has a restriction, activation is still pending, or the stream URL or key is incorrect. | Check channel eligibility and restrictions, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, then copy the current URL and key from the scheduled stream into the encoder. |
| Preview is missing or stream health is poor | Connection instability, mismatched encoder settings, or an incorrect destination can prevent a stable ingest. | Check the encoder’s destination and stream health in Studio. Match resolution and bitrate to available sustained upload capacity and use YouTube’s current settings recommendations. |
| There is no audio, distorted audio, or a bad transition | The source file or encoder audio settings may differ across playlist items, or a transition may not have been tested. | Check audio settings and listen to each file and transition during a test. Replace or correct problematic media before making the fundraiser public. |
| Stream stops at the end of a video | Repeat is disabled, the playlist is not selected as expected, or the service does not loop the chosen media. | Enable repeat in the encoder or playout service and test through the end of the playlist into the next file. |
| Video is replaced or the broadcast is interrupted | YouTube may have identified third-party material through its live copyright scanning. | Check the stream for matched material, remove or replace content you cannot use, and ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel if you have a license. Consult YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance. |
| Fundraiser or donation option is unavailable | The channel may not meet YouTube Giving conditions, or the feature may not be available for its location. | Check the current eligibility information in Studio. If the channel cannot use YouTube Giving, use an approved external fundraising site and clearly identify the campaign and recipient. |
| No single complete replay appears | The broadcast ran longer than YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window. | For a complete replay, plan shorter broadcasts and retain source files or recordings instead of assuming a continuous 24/7 stream will create one complete archive. |
