In the United States, apply for TikTok Shop’s affiliate experience in the app: open TikTok Studio → Monetization → TikTok Shop for Creator → Join now, then submit the application for review. TikTok’s current US policy sets a minimum of 1,000 followers for Affiliate Creators, but meeting that threshold does not guarantee approval. Some approved creators below 5,000 followers may begin with pilot restrictions rather than full capabilities.
Apply through TikTok Studio
- Open TikTok Studio. In the TikTok app, go to your profile, open the menu, and select TikTok Studio. TikTok’s onboarding guide identifies the creator-tools route as TikTok Studio → Monetization → TikTok Shop for Creator → Join now.
- Choose TikTok Shop for Creator. Under Monetization, select the TikTok Shop creator option and tap Join now.
- Submit the application. Follow the in-app prompts and send your application for review. The documented menu labels can change; if they do not match your app, look in TikTok Studio or Creator tools for TikTok Shop creator onboarding.
- Complete any requested checks. TikTok may require age confirmation or identity verification as part of enabling creator e-commerce permissions. Use only the official in-app flow.
TikTok calls people who promote products through the marketplace “Affiliate Creators” or “TikTok Shop Creators.” An Affiliate Creator self-applies and can access the Product Marketplace without being tied to a particular seller’s shop, according to TikTok’s onboarding guide and US Creator Eligibility Policy.

The requirements below describe TikTok Shop’s US rules, not a worldwide standard. The policy is dated July 31, 2026, and eligibility rules can change.

- Age: You must be at least 18.
- Location: You must be based in the United States.
- Followers: Affiliate Creators must have at least 1,000 followers and self-apply.
- Account type: The policy excludes Government, Politician, and Political Party Accounts from creator eligibility.
- Policy standing: You must comply with TikTok Shop content rules, Community Guidelines, the Creator Code of Conduct, and other applicable Shop policies. Prior revocation of e-commerce permissions, or certain associations with accounts whose permissions were revoked, can also affect eligibility.
- Verification: You must pass applicable identity verification and age-confirmation checks.
TikTok’s policy separates three account paths. An Affiliate Creator self-applies for marketplace access. A Marketing Creator is associated with or invited by a seller, while an Official Shop Creator represents a shop; those arrangements are not the same as joining the open affiliate marketplace. What happens if you have fewer than 5,000 followers?
Five thousand followers is not the minimum to apply. TikTok’s US policy sets the Affiliate Creator minimum at 1,000, while its onboarding and pilot materials describe a separate early-access experience for some creators below 5,000. After successful verification, eligible accounts may be placed automatically in a 30-day Affiliate Creator Pilot, with limits on how often they can post shoppable content. The exact limits depend on follower count and account status, so check the pilot information shown in your account rather than assuming one limit applies to everyone. TikTok documents the program in its onboarding guide and Affiliate Creator Pilot Program guidance.
TikTok’s onboarding materials describe graduation from early-stage controls as requiring more than 30 days onboarded, more than 1,000 followers, and successful compliance and security evaluation where those controls apply. Pilot status and graduation are account-specific; use the in-app pilot page to see your own status and current restrictions.

Complete age confirmation and identity verification
Age confirmation
TikTok says creators must confirm they are at least 18 to receive Shop creator e-commerce permissions. Depending on the flow presented, confirmation may use in-app recognition, credit-card authorization, or an ID and selfie check. Follow the method TikTok presents in the app; do not send sensitive details through unofficial links or messages. See TikTok’s US Creator Age Confirmation guidance.
Identity verification
Applicable Affiliate and Marketing Creators may be asked for their full name, date of birth, address, and images of a valid government-issued US identity document, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or the personal-details page of a passport. TikTok may prompt for verification in Creator Center or Earnings, or during a commission withdrawal. It is required before applicable creators can withdraw commissions. The exact request can depend on account history and policy; TikTok explains the process in its Creator Identity Verification guidance.

Understand how affiliate commissions work
Affiliate marketing on TikTok Shop is a commission-based relationship: sellers make qualifying products available, and creators can find products to promote. A commission is tied to the specific seller offer and qualifying activity; TikTok’s policy does not establish a universal commission rate, typical earnings figure, approval time, or guarantee of free samples. Check the terms on each product offer before promoting it. See TikTok’s Affiliate Marketing Policy.
Joining itself is an in-app application and eligibility process; TikTok’s onboarding requirements do not specify filming equipment as a prerequisite.
