SpaceX is no longer available only through private-market funds: it completed an IPO in June 2026 and issued publicly traded Class A shares. A private-market fund is now a separate, indirect route whose current SpaceX exposure must be confirmed from its latest holdings. It may offer diversified exposure to private companies, but it is not the same security as owning SpaceX shares.
SpaceX investment routes are different securities
SpaceX’s June 2026 IPO changed the starting point for investors. The company’s SEC filing reports that it issued 638.9 million Class A shares at an offering price of $135 each, generating $85.675 billion in net proceeds after underwriting commissions and offering costs. These are historical offering figures, not today’s share price or valuation. SpaceX’s Form 10-Q documents the completed offering; its June 4 announcement said it had applied to list Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas under the ticker SPCX: SpaceX IPO announcement.
For a prospective investor, the meaningful comparison is between buying the company’s publicly traded shares, buying shares in a pooled private-market fund that may hold SpaceX-related exposure, or using a leveraged or inverse ETF. Each represents a different investment and risk profile.

How a private-market fund can provide SpaceX exposure
A private-market fund pools investor capital and holds a portfolio of investments. An investor in the fund owns fund shares; the fund, or an investment vehicle it uses, may hold a security or other interest associated with SpaceX. That structure can mean the investor does not have a direct claim against SpaceX. The Private Shares Fund says its holdings may use special purpose vehicles and other structures, which can add expenses and affect investors’ rights. What the cited fund currently establishes—and what it does not
The Private Shares Fund lists the PRIVX, PIIVX, and PRLVX share classes and says accreditation is not required. Its issuer page states minimum investments of $2,500 for Class A and Class L shares and $1 million for Institutional shares, with the Institutional minimum waived for fee-based advisory accounts. These terms are subject to change; consult the current prospectus and confirm the terms that apply to your account.
The fund issuer reported that SpaceX and xAI together represented 19.36% of the fund’s portfolio as of March 31, 2026. That is a combined, pre-IPO allocation—not SpaceX’s standalone weight and not a current allocation. Although the issuer page shows a later top-holdings date, the available text does not establish the fund’s post-IPO SpaceX holdings or whether it converted, retained, or sold any exposure. Do not use the March figure to estimate the fund’s current SpaceX exposure; obtain the latest holdings file and prospectus instead. Liquidity and risks of interval funds
An interval fund is not a publicly traded stock that investors can normally sell whenever the market is open. The Private Shares Fund says it does not intend to list its shares on an exchange and does not expect a secondary market to develop. It describes quarterly repurchase offers of up to 5% of net asset value (NAV); that is a limit on the offer, not a promise that each investor can sell the amount requested. Investors may be unable to sell when they want or in the amount they want. The issuer’s disclosures explain repurchases and fund risks.

The fund’s disclosures discuss fair-value methods, portfolio concentration, lockups, and the possibility of selling an investment at an unfavorable price after an IPO. Those issues matter especially after a company becomes publicly traded: a fund may still hold securities subject to restrictions, may value them differently from the public share price, or may have changed its position. The available dated allocation does not establish which of those situations applies now.

Leveraged SpaceX ETFs are not a private-fund substitute
Direxion lists LOFF and LOFD ETFs targeting, respectively, +200% and -200% of SpaceX’s daily price performance before fees and expenses. Those are daily targets, not promises of twice or negative twice SpaceX’s return over a longer period. Compounding and daily rebalancing can cause multi-day results to differ substantially from a simple multiple of the stock’s return. Concentrated exposure and volatility make these products materially different from either SpaceX shares or a diversified interval fund. How to evaluate a private-market fund before investing
- Identify the actual exposure. Find the latest portfolio disclosure and determine whether it names SpaceX, xAI, a special purpose vehicle, or another instrument. Check the reporting date and whether the percentage refers to SpaceX alone or a group of holdings.
- Read the current prospectus. Confirm the share class, minimum, fees and expenses, valuation approach, repurchase schedule, and any eligibility conditions that apply to you. Do not assume a past minimum or exposure figure remains current.
- Understand what you can sell and when. Read the repurchase terms, including the maximum offered and how requests are handled if they exceed that amount. Do not treat quarterly repurchases as guaranteed access to cash.
- Compare the fund with direct public shares. Check whether you can access SPCX through your brokerage and in your jurisdiction, and compare the fund’s indirect exposure and liquidity with the public shares’ trading access. Availability and rules vary by market and account.
- Assess concentration and valuation risk. Consider how the fund’s overall portfolio, any concentrated positions, valuation practices, and underlying lockups could affect the value and saleability of your investment.
What to verify for your market and account
SpaceX’s IPO establishes that public shares exist; it does not establish that every brokerage, account type, or jurisdiction offers them. Check your broker’s current listing, trading availability, and local eligibility rules. For a private fund, confirm the current share-class terms and exposure directly in its latest documents rather than relying on an older portfolio snapshot. For an ETF, check the current prospectus and confirm that you understand its daily objective and risks.
