Whether a Xiaomi device can connect to SmartThings depends on its exact model, region, and protocol. The clearest documented route is direct onboarding for a Xiaomi product that is Matter-certified. Xiaomi’s documentation describes its Zigbee and Bluetooth devices pairing through Mi Home, but does not establish that a Xiaomi hub passes those devices through to SmartThings.
First, identify the exact Xiaomi device
Check the product’s model number and the version sold in your region. Then look up its official product or support page for its radio protocol and any Matter certification. A Xiaomi product using Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth, Thread, or Matter does not automatically follow the same SmartThings setup process.
Do not assume that a Xiaomi hub makes every Xiaomi child device compatible with SmartThings. The Xiaomi hub documentation describes integration within the Mi Home ecosystem; it does not establish SmartThings support for its connected Zigbee or Bluetooth devices.
If the Xiaomi device is Matter-certified
SmartThings documents onboarding for Matter devices. Its guidance says a device bearing the Matter badge can connect to a supported Matter controller in the SmartThings app. The exact controller, app, and firmware requirements can vary, so check the SmartThings Matter integration guide before beginning.

- Open the SmartThings app and tap Add (+), then Add Device.
- Scan the device’s Matter QR code, or enter its Matter setup code when prompted.
- Select the compatible SmartThings hub or controller and assign the device to a room.
- Complete network selection and any remaining prompts in the app.
If the device uses Matter over Thread, your setup needs a Matter controller that also includes a Thread Border Router. A Matter badge by itself does not mean every SmartThings hub can commission a Thread device.
If it is a Xiaomi Zigbee or Bluetooth device
Xiaomi’s instructions place setup and control of Xiaomi products in Mi Home. Xiaomi says the Xiaomi Smart Home Hub 2 supports up to 100 Bluetooth and Zigbee child devices, which are paired through Mi Home. Xiaomi says the Mi Smart Home Hub supports up to 32 Bluetooth and Zigbee child devices, also paired through Mi Home. Those capacity figures describe the Xiaomi ecosystem, not the number of devices exposed to SmartThings.

The available official Xiaomi documentation does not establish that either hub bridges its Zigbee or Bluetooth child devices into SmartThings. That does not rule out every model-specific or third-party workaround, but compatibility should not be assumed. Xiaomi’s Mi Home information describes the app used to add and configure products and create automations in that ecosystem.
What about using an Aqara hub as a bridge?
Aqara documents Matter bridging to Samsung SmartThings for supported Aqara functionality on compatible Aqara hubs. Its documentation concerns Aqara products and hub modes; it does not confirm that Xiaomi-branded child devices can be added to an Aqara hub and exposed to SmartThings.

If the device is actually an Aqara product, check Aqara’s Matter bridge instructions for SmartThings and its hub and device-mode requirements. Aqara’s FP300 setup example is specific to that Aqara sensor, not a general compatibility promise for Xiaomi devices.

Troubleshoot a device SmartThings cannot find
- Confirm the exact model and region. Use the product’s official page to verify the protocol and whether the device itself is Matter-certified.
- Check the setup route. Use SmartThings’ Matter flow only for a Matter device; Xiaomi’s Zigbee or Bluetooth pairing instructions for Mi Home do not establish SmartThings compatibility.
- For Thread Matter devices, verify the controller. It must include a Thread Border Router, in addition to meeting SmartThings’ current controller and app requirements.
- Do not infer compatibility from a hub’s device capacity. A hub supporting a stated number of Bluetooth or Zigbee accessories in Mi Home does not establish that SmartThings can see them.
- Check any bridge claim against the exact product. Support for Aqara devices through an Aqara Matter bridge is not proof that a Xiaomi-branded device will work through it.
