Amazon Fire tablets use Amazon’s Appstore, not Google Play Store. You can add Play Store by installing four compatible Google APK packages, but the files must match your tablet’s generation, Fire OS version, Android base, and CPU architecture.
Before starting, connect to Wi‑Fi, charge the tablet, and check the device details at Settings → Device Options → About Fire Tablet. Write down the exact model or generation and the Fire OS version. “Fire HD 10,” for example, refers to multiple generations with different compatibility requirements.
Before you download anything
Check these details first:
- Tablet model and generation: Fire 7, Fire HD 8, and Fire HD 10 names are reused across years.
- Fire OS version: Fire OS 5 and 6 use older Android bases; Fire OS 7 is based on Android 9; Fire OS 8 is based on Android 11.
- CPU architecture: the tablet may require an ARM/32-bit or ARM64 APK.
Do not simply download the newest version of every file. A newer APK may require a newer Android version or a different architecture. The usual result is App not installed, a crashing Play Store, Google sign-in loops, or downloads stuck at Pending.

If your tablet has a microSD card, remove it temporarily before installation. Some Fire tablet installation procedures report that the card can interfere with APK installation.
Download the four required APKs
You need these four Google packages:

Choose a version compatible with the tablet |
Google Play Services has the most confusing selection of variants and is the package most likely to fail when the Android version or CPU architecture is wrong. Select files using the tablet’s actual specifications, not just its product name.
Allow APK installation on the Fire tablet
Fire OS controls APK installation through the app that opens the file. The wording differs between Fire OS versions.
- Open Settings.
- Look for Security & Privacy, then open Apps from Unknown Sources or Install unknown apps.
- Enable permission for Silk Browser if Silk will open the downloaded APK files.
- If you will open the files with Files or another file manager, enable permission for that app instead.
On some older Fire OS versions, the path is Settings → Security & Privacy → Apps from Unknown Sources → Silk Browser → Allow from this source. Newer versions commonly use a per-app Install unknown apps permission. There may not be one universal “Unknown Sources” switch.

Install Google Play Store
Download all four compatible APKs with Silk, then install them in this exact order. The files may be listed in download-completion order, so do not install them merely from top to bottom in the Downloads folder.
- Open the Files app.
- Go to Downloads.
- Select the Google Account Manager APK. Tap Install, then tap Done.
- Select the Google Services Framework APK. Tap Install, then tap Done.
- Select the Google Play Services APK that matches the tablet. Tap Install, then tap Done.
- Select the Google Play Store APK. Tap Install, then tap Done.
Tap Done after every installation rather than Open. Do not launch a Google component until all four packages have been installed.
If you cannot identify a file, check its filename and package information before installing. The package identifiers should correspond to:
com.google.android.gsf.logincom.google.android.gsfcom.google.android.gmscom.android.vending
Restart and sign in
- Hold the tablet’s power button.
- Tap Restart.
- After Fire OS loads, open the app labeled Play Store. It may not be labeled “Google Play Store.”
- Sign in with your Google account when prompted.
The first launch may take about a minute while Google Services Framework registers the required components. Avoid repeatedly closing and reopening Play Store during this initial setup.

Fix common installation problems

If Google components appear installed but Play Store still fails, verify that all four packages are present and that they belong to compatible builds. Installing only Play Store is not enough.
What Play Store cannot fix
Sideloading Play Store does not turn a Fire tablet into an officially Google-certified Android device. Some applications may still refuse to install or work correctly because they depend on Google certification, Play Integrity or similar checks, DRM validation, or Google features unavailable on Fire OS.
Banking, streaming, enterprise, school-managed, and other security-sensitive apps are the most likely to be affected. Play Store availability also does not guarantee that every app supports the tablet’s hardware or Fire OS.
A later Fire OS update can also disrupt an installation that previously worked. If that happens, reassess the Google Play Services and Play Store versions against the updated Fire OS/Android base and CPU architecture.

Removing Google Play Store
You generally do not need a factory reset to remove the installation. Open Settings → Apps & Notifications or App management, select the Google components, and use Uninstall where available. Some system-associated components may offer only Disable or Uninstall updates.
Use a factory reset only as a last resort because it erases the tablet’s local data and settings. Back up anything important first.

Can every Amazon Fire tablet run Google Play Store?
Many Fire tablets can run the standard sideloaded packages, but compatibility depends on the exact model and generation, Fire OS/Android base, CPU architecture, and APK versions. Some apps may remain unsupported even after Play Store is installed.

No. Fire tablets ship with Amazon Appstore and Fire OS. Google Play Store must be added manually by installing compatible APK files.

What order should I install the APKs?
Install Google Account Manager first, Google Services Framework second, Google Play Services third, and Google Play Store last. Tap Done after each installation and restart the tablet after the fourth package.
Why does my Fire tablet say “App not installed”?
The APK may require an incompatible Android version, use the wrong ARM or ARM64 architecture, be the wrong variant, or conflict with an existing package. Recheck the tablet details and select matching APKs.
Why is Play Store stuck on “Pending”?
Check Wi‑Fi and automatic date/time first. Then clear the cache and data for Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and, if necessary, Google Services Framework under the tablet’s app-management settings.
Will installing Play Store make all Android apps work?
No. Apps that require Google certification, Play Integrity checks, DRM, device-management features, or Google services unavailable on Fire OS may still fail or be unavailable.
The Bottom Line
The reliable method is to identify the exact Fire tablet and Fire OS version, select APKs matching its Android base and ARM/ARM64 architecture, install Account Manager → Services Framework → Play Services → Play Store, and restart before signing in. Do not use a universal “latest APK” set: compatibility matters more than release date.
