To download the DIRECTV app on an LG TV, open Apps on the TV, search for DIRECTV, select it, then choose Install. The native app is supported on LG Smart TVs from 2021 onward running webOS 6.0 or higher. After installation, open the app from the Home Screen and sign in with your DIRECTV user ID and password.
Check whether your LG TV supports DIRECTV
DIRECTV’s stated requirement is an LG Smart TV released in 2021 or later with webOS 6.0 or higher. The model year by itself may not settle compatibility, so check the TV’s model and software version if DIRECTV does not appear in the app search. See DIRECTV’s LG TV instructions and its device compatibility list for current details.
You will also need an internet-connected compatible TV, a DIRECTV account, and the app. Installation is done through the TV’s app catalog, not a phone’s app store.

Download and sign in to the app
- On the LG TV Home Screen, open Apps.
- Select the magnifying-glass search icon and enter DIRECTV.
- Choose the DIRECTV app in the search results, then select Install.
- When installation finishes, open DIRECTV from the Home Screen.
- Enter your DIRECTV user ID and password to sign in.
What to do if you can’t find or open DIRECTV
Check the network connection
Confirm that the TV is connected to your home network. DIRECTV’s LG guidance points to Settings > General > Network for network checks. DIRECTV suggests 8 Mbps per stream for in-home viewing; this is a recommended speed, not a guarantee of performance on a particular connection.

Update the TV and app
Check for the latest TV operating-system and app updates. If the app appears but is malfunctioning, DIRECTV says uninstalling and reinstalling it may help.
Confirm compatibility and ask LG for model-specific help
If DIRECTV remains absent from search, verify that the TV meets the webOS and model-year requirements. App availability can also depend on the exact model, software configuration, or region. For TV-specific assistance, DIRECTV points users to LG Support; have the LG model number ready.

Options for an unsupported LG TV
If the TV cannot run the native app, a compatible external streaming device may provide another way to watch DIRECTV. DIRECTV’s compatibility list covers several device families, including Fire TV, Google/Chromecast, Roku, and Apple TV. Check the exact model and operating-system requirement against the current list before buying or setting up a device; support does not extend automatically to every product in a family.

For example, DIRECTV lists Fire TV devices using Fire OS 5 or higher and separately lists the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Select with Vega OS 1.1 or higher. An external streamer is only a fallback for an unsupported television; it is not required when the native app is available on a compatible LG TV.
