You can install AMD Radeon graphics drivers on Windows 11 for free through AMD’s official installer. Use AMD Auto-Detect for a guided compatibility check, or select your exact graphics product manually. Then choose the default Express Install or adjust the installation options.
Check compatibility and choose a download method
AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition supports compatible Radeon graphics on Windows 11 version 21H2 and later. Support depends on the specific GPU and driver release, so check the product’s release notes rather than assuming every Radeon model supports every package. AMD’s installation guide explains the process; AMD Drivers and Support provides the download routes.
- Auto-Detect: Choose this if you want AMD’s tool to check supported Radeon graphics or Ryzen chipset hardware and your Windows version, then present applicable drivers.
- Product Selector: Choose this if you know your product or Auto-Detect does not support it. Select the product and operating system to view compatible and, where available, previous drivers. See AMD’s product-selection information.
AMD reference drivers are designed for broad OEM compatibility, but some manufacturer-specific features require custom drivers from the computer maker. Laptop and all-in-one users should check their manufacturer’s support page, particularly if AMD’s reference package causes compatibility problems. AMD describes its notebook reference package as having limited support for vendor-specific features. AMD’s installation guidance and driver-selection information describe these options.

If the installer offers both, AMD characterizes Recommended drivers as stability-focused and Microsoft-certified. Optional drivers may include newer features and bug fixes. AMD’s Auto-Detect instructions, updated June 2, 2025, state that “Recommended drivers offer the best stability and have been certified by Microsoft®”; this is AMD’s description, not an independent comparative test. - Select an available Recommended or Optional package if prompted, then let installation finish and click Close.
A brief display flicker while the driver changes are applied is normal. Labels and available components can vary by release and system configuration. Select installation options that fit your needs
| Option | What it installs | When it may suit you |
|---|---|---|
| Default | AMD Software features and controls. | You want the fuller software experience. |
| Minimal | Basic controls. | You want fewer software features than the default setup. |
| Driver Only | The driver without the AMD Software user interface. | You want the driver but not AMD’s software interface. |
| Custom Install | Available component choices depend on the system and configuration. | You want to choose among the components offered by your installer. |
These choices appear under Additional Options; the standard Accept & Express Install uses default settings. AMD’s installation guide.

Understand Factory Reset before selecting it
Factory Reset is optional and is not necessary for an ordinary first installation or update. AMD says it removes previous AMD Software package versions, temporarily pauses Windows Updates, restarts the computer, and then resumes installation. After using it, you cannot roll back to the previous driver. Choose it only if you understand that trade-off. AMD’s installation guide.
Troubleshoot an unsuccessful installation
AMD lists installer errors involving pending Windows updates or restarts, download or network-resource failures, unsupported hardware or operating systems, insufficient disk space, third-party graphics drivers, and Windows Update reverting a driver. Match the error number shown by your installer to AMD’s error-specific support information instead of applying a generic cleanup procedure. AMD’s installation guide.
