On a computer, insert a video with Insert > Video, then set its playback to Play (automatically) in the slide’s Format options. That makes the video start when its slide appears; it does not make the presentation advance to the next slide.
Insert a YouTube video into Google Slides
- Open your presentation on a computer and select the slide where you want the video.
- Choose Insert > Video.
- Choose a source: Search YouTube to find a video, By URL to enter its YouTube link, or Google Drive to use a video stored there.
- Find or select the video, then click Select. The video appears on the slide; drag it to position it and adjust its size as needed.

Set the video to autoplay
- Select the video on the slide.
- Open Format options from the toolbar or the video’s right-click menu.
- In the sidebar, expand Video playback.
- Choose Play (automatically).
Google describes this option as: “Play (automatically): Video plays without any clicks.” It starts without you clicking the video during the presentation. Google lists Play (on click) as the default: the video plays when you advance to its slide. Play (manual) instead requires you to click the embedded video. These are distinct playback triggers, not different ways to control slide timing.
Video autoplay and slide auto-advance are separate
Autoplay controls the video. Slide auto-advance controls when the presentation moves to another slide. Enabling one does not enable the other, and Google’s instructions do not promise that a slide will wait for an embedded video to finish before advancing.

For a live presentation
In a live presentation, start or advance through slides with a key press, mouse click, or remote clicker. If you need the next slide to appear at a particular time, plan and check slide timing separately; do not assume it will be matched to the video’s duration. For a published presentation
To set timed slide advance in a published deck, use File > Publish to the web, choose an auto-advance interval, and publish. This is a published-presentation option, not the same as ordinary full-screen presenting. Google says that if you change the presentation or its timing, you need a new link.

Check access before sharing or presenting
People viewing a shared deck need access to play its embedded video. Use Share to add the intended people or groups, choose an access role, and review any suggested access updates. Google says Access checker can automatically suggest permissions for new users when presentations include video or audio. Google also advises updating older presentations to use the current in-format playback options.

Before an event or public link, check both access to the video and access to the presentation. Google warns that a published presentation can be viewed by anyone with the link; work or school accounts may restrict link sharing to people in the organization. Confirm that the sharing settings suit your audience.

What to know about mobile
The steps here are Google’s documented computer workflow. The cited instructions do not establish an equivalent current mobile procedure, so use the computer steps if you need the documented path for inserting and setting video autoplay.
