To increase Black Friday sales, plan around the products you can fulfill, make the offer easy to understand, and remove friction from mobile shopping. Black Friday 2026 is November 27, followed by Cyber Monday on November 30. Adobe forecasts $12.9 billion in U.S. Black Friday online sales this year; that is a forecast, not a guarantee for any individual store. Use the strategies below to build a campaign that can attract shoppers without sacrificing margin or customer trust.
1. Plan demand, inventory, and fulfillment first
Start with what your business can actually sell and deliver. Review prior holiday results, current product interest, waitlists, supplier constraints, shipping capacity, and likely returns. Shopify’s Black Friday marketing guidance also recommends forecasting and preparing inventory before campaigns begin.

Use that review to decide which products can support promotion, how much stock to reserve, and what delivery expectations you can state accurately. Exclude products with uncertain replenishment or fulfillment rather than advertising them and risking cancellations or delayed orders.
2. Build an interested audience before launch
Use the weeks before the promotion to grow email and SMS lists with clear consent. A preference quiz or signup form can help shoppers identify relevant products, but collect only information that improves recommendations or campaign relevance. Segment by stated interests and prior behavior so customers do not all receive the same offer.

Shopify’s guide describes quizzes and personalized email as holiday tactics. Apply them where they make the shopping experience more useful, not simply to gather more data.
3. Make the offer and its timing clear
Tell customers when the sale starts, which products qualify, how to redeem the offer, and what exclusions apply. If a discount is genuinely limited by inventory or time, explain the limit plainly; do not invent scarcity. Transparent terms help shoppers decide and reduce confusion at checkout.
Announce the campaign schedule early enough for customers to plan. If early access, a preview, or a later offer differs from the public promotion, spell out who qualifies and when each offer is available.
4. Choose promotions that protect contribution
A broad discount is not the only way to make an offer compelling. Consider a bundle, a tiered incentive, a gift with purchase, or a focused markdown on selected inventory. Compare each option using the contribution left after discounts and media costs, along with stock and fulfillment capacity.

Adobe forecasts competitive U.S. discounts for categories including TVs, apparel, appliances, toys, and furniture. That market-level forecast does not show what discount is profitable for your store. Set the offer from your own costs, inventory, and objectives rather than treating a predicted market trend as a pricing target.
5. Give shoppers a real reason to return
A member preview, product drop, or staggered release can create a reason to revisit your store, provided supply and fulfillment can support it. Shopify includes time-sensitive product drops among its suggested holiday tactics. Make the timing and eligibility clear, and avoid promising a release that your team cannot reliably deliver.
6. Use paid audiences with defined goals
Test retargeting and lookalike audiences against specific goals, such as qualified product-page visits or completed purchases. Set spending limits, monitor acquisition costs, and compare results with the contribution from the orders. Adobe forecasts that social media revenue share will rise 17% and affiliate or partner share 12% between January–August 2025 and January–August 2026, while paid search is projected to rise 4%. These are Adobe channel estimates, not guaranteed results for a particular advertiser.

7. Partner with creators and affiliates that fit
Choose partners whose audience and content match the products you can fulfill. Give them accurate product details, approved claims, and the exact promotion terms. Use trackable links or other approved measurement systems, then evaluate results alongside costs and audience fit. Shopify recommends creator partnerships, while Adobe’s partner category includes affiliates and social influencers.
8. Personalize email and use SMS selectively
Plan distinct messages for early access, launch, reminders, and the closing period. Send each to an audience for whom the message is relevant, and use customers’ preferences or prior behavior to tailor product recommendations. Include SMS only for customers who opted in, and make each text useful enough to justify the interruption.
Shopify discusses personalized email and SMS as holiday tactics. Keep the message schedule coordinated across channels so a customer does not receive redundant reminders.

Test the full purchase path on small screens: campaign landing pages, product details, promotion terms, discount application, checkout, and customer support. Check that important buttons and delivery information are easy to find, and verify that the displayed price matches the price charged.
Adobe observed that mobile accounted for 56.4% of U.S. online holiday transactions in 2025 and forecasts mobile at 63% of U.S. Thanksgiving online spend in 2026. These are different measures—transactions versus spend—so they should not be read as a direct year-over-year comparison. Both point to mobile as a meaningful part of holiday shopping.
10. Automate carefully and plan what happens after the sale
Schedule promotions and messages, but QA them before they go live. Confirm that prices, discount rules, stock information, product feeds, and campaign links are current. Prepare customer support for questions about eligibility, delivery, and returns. Keep a manual response plan available if an automated promotion or feed behaves unexpectedly.
After Cyber Week, follow up with useful order and product information, invite feedback where appropriate, and make relevant next-purchase suggestions. Shopify recommends treating loyalty as part of holiday preparation rather than ending the plan when the promotion ends.

Begin preparation well before November 27, 2026. The work has dependencies: inventory and fulfillment planning inform the offer; the offer informs campaign pages and partner materials; audience building and testing need time before launch. A practical sequence is:
Best Value
- Used Book in Good Condition
- Before promotion planning: Review prior holiday sales, product demand, inventory, shipping capacity, and returns. Decide what you can safely promote.
- Before audience warm-up: Set offer terms, campaign dates, exclusions, and landing-page requirements. Start consent-based list growth and preference capture.
- Before launch: Test email, SMS, paid campaigns, partner tracking, discount logic, product feeds, mobile checkout, and customer-support coverage.
- During Black Friday and Cyber Week: Monitor stock, spend, conversion, customer questions, and fulfillment performance. Adjust only when the operational and financial consequences are understood.
- After Cyber Monday: Complete fulfillment and support follow-up, then assess contribution and repeat-purchase outcomes—not just gross sales.
How to prioritize the 10 strategies
If time or budget is limited, prioritize the decisions that can invalidate the rest of the campaign:
- First: Confirm inventory, margin, and fulfillment capacity.
- Next: Make the promotion terms clear and ensure the mobile purchase path works.
- Then: Reach opted-in, relevant audiences through email and selective SMS; add paid or partner activity where measurement and economics make sense.
- Finally: Automate only after testing, and plan post-sale support and retention.
For any competing tactic or vendor, compare expected incremental contribution after discounts and media costs, audience fit and consent requirements, setup time, operational capacity, mobile checkout performance, measurement of incrementality, and potential to support repeat purchases. Aggregate forecasts and strategy examples do not establish a universal winner or prove that a tactic will cause sales growth for every retailer.
What the 2026 forecasts do—and do not—tell retailers
Adobe forecasts $275.1 billion in U.S. online sales from November 1 through December 31, 2026, including $47.5 billion across Cyber Week. It forecasts $12.9 billion in Black Friday online sales, up 9.2% year over year, and $15.1 billion on Cyber Monday, up 6.2%. These are forecasts, not completed results or targets an individual store should expect to reach.

For context, Adobe reports that U.S. online holiday spending reached $257.8 billion in November–December 2025, up 6.8% year over year, and Black Friday 2025 online spending was $11.8 billion, up 9.1%. Those are historical figures, not 2026 results. NRF’s forecast of 4.4% U.S. retail sales growth to $5.6 trillion in 2026 covers the full retail market for the year, not Black Friday specifically.
These figures can help frame the size and timing of the season. Your campaign decisions should still follow your own margins, customers, stock, and ability to deliver.
