Start by checking which apps are using power, then make the smallest changes that address the drain. On the Galaxy A17 5G, open Settings > Battery and review the usage graph and app details. If a particular app stands out, deal with that app before limiting features across the whole phone.
1. Find what is draining the battery
- Open Settings > Battery.
- Review the usage graph for the period shown, then inspect the app usage details below it. Tap an app to see its battery use.
- If an app is an obvious outlier, update it first. If the drain continues, restrict its background activity or uninstall it if you do not need it. Use the usage list to target the problem rather than restricting every app. If the exact menu labels differ on your phone, search Settings for “Battery” or open the Battery screen; paths and options may vary with software version, carrier, or region.
2. Make low-impact display changes

3. Use Power saving when you need more runtime

Choose Standard for a measured reduction in background activity or features. Choose Maximum when staying powered matters more than convenience or speed. Depending on your installed software, Power saving controls can include limiting CPU speed to 70%, turning off Always On Display, reducing brightness, setting Motion smoothness to Standard, using Dark mode, and shortening screen timeout. 4. Turn off features only when you do not need them

- Turn off location access when you do not need location-based services; restore it when an app or navigation requires it.
- Disable vibration if you are comfortable using sound or visual alerts instead.
- Remove or reduce automatically updating widgets if they refresh more often than you need.
5. Put unused apps to sleep selectively
Verizon documents both “Put unused apps to sleep” and Adaptive power saving for this phone. These controls can help curb background activity, but a sleeping app may not behave as you expect. 6. Know what the battery specifications do—and do not—tell you

The playback figure is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee of all-day runtime under every mix of apps, settings, and network conditions. There is no cited controlled A17 5G test establishing how many extra hours or what percentage of battery any one setting change will save. Actual results depend on use, so check the Battery screen after making a change and keep only the restrictions whose trade-offs suit you.
