Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

The exact controls vary by device. These changes conserve the charge you have; they cannot restore capacity lost as a battery ages.
Which Windows settings should you change first?
On Windows 11, begin in Settings > System > Power & battery. The names and availability of options depend on your PC and its manufacturer configuration.
- Choose a more efficient power mode. Select the more efficient mode available, such as Best Power Efficiency. The setting can differ between PCs. Microsoft’s battery-saving guidance describes Windows power settings and other ways to conserve charge.
- Turn on Energy saver. Enable it manually when you need to conserve power, or set it to turn on automatically if that option is available. Microsoft says Energy saver temporarily limits some power-hungry activity, including automatic mail and calendar syncing and apps not in active use. You may receive fewer background updates.
- Shorten screen-off and sleep times. Set shorter intervals for when the display turns off and the PC goes to sleep while on battery. This helps prevent a 2-in-1 from staying active unnecessarily when you step away.
- Check Battery usage. Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Battery usage. Look for apps consuming substantial battery. Where Windows offers a background-activity control, restrict an app only if delayed syncing or notifications are acceptable.
Microsoft Support calls battery saver “the easiest way to extend battery life.” That is general guidance, not a measured promise of a specific runtime increase.
How can you reduce display power use?
Lower brightness and screen timeout
Reduce built-in display brightness to a level that remains comfortable to read, and use a shorter screen timeout when the device is idle. The display is one of the most visible power demands you can adjust quickly.

Reduce refresh rate if the option exists
Some 2-in-1s let you lower the display refresh rate. A lower rate may suit reading, writing, and other tasks that do not need smoother motion. The control is hardware-dependent and may not appear on your device.
Use dark mode selectively
A dark theme is most relevant to OLED displays, where darker pixels can use less power. Do not expect the same benefit on every panel type. OLED, adaptive brightness, and content-based display optimizations are not universal features, and automatic brightness may not match your preference.
Should you use sleep or hibernate when you step away?
Use sleep for a short break when you want a quick return to work. For a longer period away from power, hibernate uses less power than sleep, but the option may not be available on every PC.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat can you change for video playback?
Windows includes battery-oriented video playback choices, including lower playback resolution in supported cases. Consider them when watching downloaded or local video if you are comfortable with a possible drop in picture quality. They are not a universal fix for web streaming, where the result can depend on the app, content, and connection.
Why is your Windows 2-in-1 battery draining quickly?
Check Battery usage first for apps with heavy consumption, then review brightness, screen timeout, background activity, and the selected power mode. If the drain is abrupt or unusually severe, use the device maker’s diagnostic and service guidance as well as Windows’ battery information.

Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity as they age and go through charge and discharge cycles. Power settings can stretch the remaining charge, but they do not reverse that capacity loss. If service appears necessary, confirm the exact model’s repair procedure and safety guidance. Microsoft’s battery-repair recommendations for Surface apply to Surface devices, not automatically to other brands.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check if the laptop charges slowly or drains while plugged in
A slow charge or continued discharge while connected can point to an incompatible or underpowered charger, a cable problem, or a port that does not accept charging. Microsoft advises using the charger and cable designed for the PC and checking with the manufacturer. USB-C alone does not establish that a port supports laptop charging or how much power it accepts.
Before buying a power bank or replacement charger, verify the laptop’s supported charging port and input requirements, the charger or bank’s output on that port, and the cable’s capability. An external USB-C Power Delivery bank may provide supplemental power only if the 2-in-1 supports charging through that port and the source supplies adequate power. A source with insufficient output may charge slowly or let the laptop continue discharging. MSI’s notebook FAQ, last updated August 18, 2026, discusses portable PD banks for supported notebooks; it is manufacturer guidance for that category, not proof that a bank will work with another brand’s 2-in-1.
A model-compatible original-equipment charger is a troubleshooting option when charging is the problem, not a general battery-life upgrade. Consider battery replacement or repair only after age or a fault is established and you have checked the service process for the exact device.
