To import messages in Hostinger Webmail, sign in and open Settings → Email Import → Import emails. Choose From a file to upload an EML file or ZIP of EML files, or choose From another mailbox to copy messages from an account Hostinger can reach over IMAP. The import runs in the background; check its progress under Settings → Email Import.
Before you start
- Make sure the destination Hostinger mailbox exists and has enough free storage for the messages. A file import must fit within the mailbox’s available storage.
- Choose your route: use a file if you have an EML backup, or connect to the old account if it is accessible over IMAP.
- Keep the old mailbox and a backup available until you have confirmed the migration completed and the expected messages are present.
Hostinger’s Webmail labels can vary by account or version. If the wording differs, look for the Email Import option in Webmail settings.
Import an EML file or ZIP backup
Use this method when you already have messages saved as EML files. Hostinger’s Webmail file importer accepts one EML file or a ZIP containing up to 100 EML files. The maximum file size is 50 MB, and the content must fit the destination mailbox storage. These are Hostinger’s published limits for the Webmail file-import route.

- Sign in to Hostinger Webmail for the destination mailbox.
- Open Settings → Email Import → Import emails.
- Select From a file.
- Choose one
.emlfile or a.zipfile containing EML messages. - Choose the destination folder: Inbox, an existing folder, or a new folder.
- Click Import.
The job runs in the background, so you can continue using the mailbox. Hostinger says unreadable messages are skipped while the rest of the file is imported; review the import status and results to spot any omissions.

Import directly from another mailbox over IMAP
Choose this option if the source mailbox can be accessed through IMAP and you have its credentials. You will need the source email address and password, plus the provider’s IMAP details if Hostinger does not offer the provider as a selection.
- In Webmail, open Settings → Email Import → Import emails.
- Select From another mailbox.
- Enter the source email address and select the provider, or select Other and enter the IMAP server manually.
- Enter the source mailbox password.
- Review the source and destination account details, then start the import.
To check the current or a past job, return to Settings → Email Import. Import progress is handled in the background.

What happens to folders and other mailbox data?
Hostinger’s migration guidance says its Email Import tool is designed to recreate the source folder structure, but the result depends on which folders the source provider exposes over IMAP. If the source does not expose a folder, Hostinger cannot recreate it from that connection. Do not assume that labels or folder arrangements will transfer identically.

Hostinger advises recording and rebuilding applicable items such as forwarders, aliases, autoresponders, signatures, filters, labels, blocked senders, server settings, and app passwords. These should not be assumed to move with imported messages.

Import contacts separately
Contacts do not move with email messages. Hostinger Webmail’s contact importer accepts CSV or XLSX files up to 5 MB or 5,000 rows; each contact needs a primary email address. Duplicate contacts with matching email addresses are skipped and counted in the import summary. See Hostinger support for its contact-import instructions.
Fix common import problems
The file is too large
The Webmail file route has a 50 MB maximum. Use smaller supported files, or consider another documented migration route. Hostinger’s separate IMAP Sync tool has a 3 GB transfer limit per transfer; larger accounts need to be split or handled another way. See Hostinger’s IMAP Sync guidance for tool details.

The destination mailbox is full
Check the available storage on the Hostinger mailbox before retrying. The imported file must fit in the space available to that mailbox.

Unreadable messages may be skipped by the file importer. Check the import status and results, then compare them with the source or backup to identify what did not transfer.

Folders are missing or arranged differently
Check whether the source provider exposes those folders over IMAP. Folder recreation depends on what the source makes available to the importer.
The IMAP connection fails
Verify the source account password and the IMAP server name with the source provider. Hostinger’s hPanel guidance notes that DNS changes made during a domain migration can affect access to the old provider’s IMAP host; using the old hosting IP is suggested as a possible workaround. Consult Hostinger’s migration guidance before changing connection details.
Contacts are missing
Export or prepare a CSV or XLSX contact file and import it through the separate contacts workflow. Message import does not include contact records.
Other documented migration routes
Webmail file import and Webmail import from another mailbox cover the two main cases above. Hostinger also documents an hPanel Email Import tool for moving a source account into an already-created Hostinger destination mailbox. It requires source credentials and an IMAP server, and folder recreation depends on what the source exposes over IMAP. Its separate IMAP Sync tool is limited to 3 GB per transfer. Use Hostinger’s relevant support instructions for the route you choose, since its steps and limits differ from the Webmail file importer.
