To move time-tracking history from Toggl Track to Clockify, export CSV files from Toggl’s Detailed Report, then upload them in Clockify’s workspace Import tab. Before starting, confirm you can export the records, invite the destination users with matching email addresses, and check Clockify’s current import-plan requirement. Clockify requires a paid subscription or an activated free trial to import time entries.
Before you export: confirm the source and destination
These steps apply to Toggl Track, not Toggl 2.0 (Focus), which has separate export options and an API. In Toggl Track, switch to the workspace that contains the records you want to move. Export scope depends on permissions: an administrator can export all entries in that workspace, while a regular member can export only entries they can access. See Toggl’s export guidance.
Prepare the Clockify workspace before importing. Invite each team member whose time entries you want to transfer. Clockify says team members must be invited first, and records may be skipped if an email in the CSV does not match a user in the destination workspace. Check the Clockify migration guide for the required fields and formats.

- Set the duration format. In Toggl Track profile settings, choose the Improved duration format. Toggl recommends this for the Detailed Report CSV workflow. See its workspace transfer guidance.
- Open Detailed Report. Select the date range and export the report as CSV. Toggl Track’s Detailed Report allows a maximum range of one year, so export separate date ranges to cover a longer history.
- Check export availability. Toggl’s export guide says CSV exports require a paid Toggl Track plan; its Free plan supports PDF exports only. Confirm current availability in your account before planning the migration.
- Keep each date range identifiable. Save the CSV files so you can tell which period each covers. This makes it easier to check coverage after import.

- Duration
For dates, Clockify accepts MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD. Duration should use HH:MM:SS. Make sure each Email value matches the address of an invited Clockify user. Clockify can create a project if a project named in the CSV does not already exist in the workspace.
Do not assume that every source field maps identically. Toggl’s CSV documentation says its own importer ignores end date and end time, calculating them from the start time and duration; that describes Toggl’s importer, not a guarantee about Clockify’s handling. Review Clockify’s preview and the resulting entries. The behavior is documented in Toggl’s CSV guide.

Upload the CSV in Clockify
- In Clockify’s web app, click the three-dot menu beside the workspace name.
- Open Workspace settings, then select Import.
- Upload a CSV file and review the import preview. Clockify says its analysis identifies projects, clients, tags, and tasks it needs to create.
- Resolve any errors shown in the preview, then run the import.
- Repeat for each CSV covering another date range.
Clockify’s Toggl importer instructions state that importing time entries requires a paid subscription, with a free trial available as an alternative. Verify the current terms in Clockify before beginning.

After importing, check the records against the date ranges and users you intended to transfer. In particular, compare entry counts and date coverage for each export period, then inspect user attribution, durations, and project, client, task, and tag assignments. This is a practical verification step; the vendor documentation does not establish a guaranteed migration-success rate.

Pay attention to entries with identical timestamps or otherwise identical details. Toggl documents merging behavior for its own CSV importer: entries matching on email, description, project, task, client, tags, and billable status are distinguished by start date and time; if those fields and start time are identical, Toggl’s importer merges them. That is not a stated Clockify deduplication rule, so check any potentially duplicated records in Clockify rather than assuming how it handled them.

For a standard migration, Clockify’s documented CSV workflow lets you review the source data and preview the import. Clockify also lists free community tools: a command-line option limited to single-user transfer, a web-interface version, and a Python script that supports multiple users. Clockify says these tools are not developed by it and should be used at your discretion. Their maintenance and support are not guaranteed by Clockify; technical users who consider them should evaluate the projects independently. Details are on the Clockify importer page.
