Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
To host FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5, either rent a Minecraft server with a one-click SkyFactory installer or run the official server package yourself under Minecraft 1.7.10 and Forge. The safest starting point is the exact server file listed on CurseForge: the newest file retrieved for this pack is version 2.5.9, dated December 10, 2021. Match every player’s pack build and mod list to the server; a different launcher is acceptable only when the installed files and versions are identical.
What you are actually installing
SkyFactory 2.5 is distributed as FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5. It targets Minecraft 1.7.10 and uses the Forge mod loader. This is not a vanilla server: the server and every client must load the same modpack content, configuration and compatible versions.

Use the official CurseForge file listing as the authority for downloads. Server archives are version-named. For example, a listing can contain FTBPresentsSkyfactory25-2.5.6-1.7.10.zip; that filename identifies the pack release and Minecraft version and should not be confused with another build.
Choose hosted or self-hosted
Your choice determines how much setup and maintenance you handle. Neither route changes the game files required by players.

| Factor | Hosted server | Self-hosted server |
|---|---|---|
| Initial setup | Usually a one-click modpack installation, followed by configuration and a restart | Download the official archive, install the specified Forge build, accept the EULA and operate the server yourself |
| Cost | Recurring rental charge; the retrieved material does not state a price | No hosting subscription, but you supply a computer, storage, electricity and a reliable internet connection |
| Control | Convenient control panel, but JVM, operating-system and hardware choices are limited by the provider | Full control over Java, Forge, memory, files, backups and automation |
| Maintenance | The provider handles the machine; you still manage pack versions, worlds, permissions and backups | You handle operating-system updates, firewall rules, uptime, backups and recovery |
| Best for | A group that wants to play quickly without administering a machine | An owner who needs filesystem and JVM control or wants to avoid a monthly hosting bill |
A hosting provider page retrieved for this topic recommends 2 GB of RAM for SkyFactory 2.5. Treat that as a provider recommendation, not a guaranteed requirement for every world or player count. More players, larger automation builds and additional server-side tools can require more memory. Select a plan that lets you increase RAM rather than locking yourself into an undersized tier.
Pick and pin the pack version
The newest file shown in the retrieved CurseForge listing is 2.5.9, published on December 10, 2021. Its changelog says the server files were updated to address a security vulnerability. If all players are starting a new installation, 2.5.9 is the sensible baseline from that listing. If you are joining an existing world, use the exact build that world already uses instead of upgrading in place.
- Write down the complete pack version before installing anything.
- Download the matching server archive, not merely a client launcher profile.
- Give every player the same pack version and configuration.
- Keep the original archive and a copy of the server’s configuration files so you can reproduce the installation.
The retrieved sources do not establish the Java runtime version or the exact Forge build for SkyFactory 2.5.9. Do not guess either value from a modern Minecraft guide. Use the Forge build and Java requirement stated in the selected pack’s server readme or included files. Installing a newer, unrelated Forge build can produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches or startup crashes.
Prepare before you install
Decide who will connect
Estimate the number of simultaneous players and whether the world will contain heavy automation. RAM demand grows with loaded chunks, entities, machines and view or simulation settings. Start with the 2 GB provider recommendation for a small group, monitor the server’s memory and tick performance, and scale up when the control panel or operating system shows sustained pressure. There is no source-backed universal RAM minimum for every SkyFactory 2.5 world.
Choose a stable server location
For self-hosting, use a computer that can remain online while people play. Put the world on fast, dependable storage and keep several gigabytes free for backups and logs. A wired connection is preferable when available. Restrict administrative access to the operating-system account and the Minecraft operator list.
Plan backups
Stop the server cleanly before copying a world. Keep at least one backup outside the live server directory and retain multiple restore points. Back up the world, server.properties, the whitelist and operator files, the mods and configuration directories, and any launch scripts. Make a fresh backup before changing pack versions, Forge files or Java.

Route 1: install on a hosted Minecraft server
1. Select a plan with adjustable memory
Choose a host that explicitly lists FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5 in its modpack installer. Check the available RAM, storage, backup controls, file manager and ability to select an exact pack release. The retrieved material gives a 2 GB RAM recommendation from one provider; it does not establish prices or a universal plan size.
2. Create the server and select the exact pack
- Open the provider’s modpack or server-type installer.
- Select FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5, not SkyFactory 3, 4 or a similarly named custom pack.
- Choose the same release you recorded from the CurseForge file list, preferably 2.5.9 for a new world unless your group needs another build.
- Start the installation and wait for the panel to report completion.
Do not upload a client-only zip over the provider’s server installation. A one-click installer should create the Forge server files and the correct mod directory for you.
3. Set memory and server controls
Set the plan’s memory allocation according to the provider’s controls. Begin at the available 2 GB recommendation for a small private group, then observe memory use while players explore and build. Configure the server name, difficulty, whitelist and operator permissions in the panel or generated files. Keep the whitelist enabled until every intended player has joined.
4. Start once and read the console
Start the server from the control panel and read the complete startup log. A successful start should finish Forge and mod loading without a crash report and should expose a normal server console prompt. Stop immediately if the log reports a missing mod, a different Minecraft version or a Forge mismatch; reinstall the exact pack build instead of deleting random files.
5. Give players the correct address
Send players the hostname or address shown by the host, together with the exact SkyFactory 2.5 release. They must launch Minecraft 1.7.10 with the matching Forge-based pack profile. If the host supplies a non-default port, include it exactly as displayed. Never publish the panel password or an operator credential in a group chat.
6. Enable scheduled backups and controlled updates
Use the host’s backup scheduler if available, and test at least one restore before the world becomes valuable. When updating, stop the server, create a backup, record the old version, install the new server files and test with one player before inviting everyone back.

Route 2: self-host the official server files
1. Install the required Java runtime
Install the Java version required by the selected SkyFactory 2.5 server readme. The available evidence does not confirm a Java version for this pack, so do not copy a requirement from a different SkyFactory release or a current Minecraft tutorial. Verify that the java command resolves to that installation before continuing.
2. Create a dedicated server directory
Make a new directory used only for this world, such as SkyFactory25. Avoid a protected operating-system location and avoid placing the live world inside a cloud-synchronised folder, where partially written region files can be damaged.
mkdir SkyFactory25
cd SkyFactory25
3. Download the matching server archive
From the official CurseForge listing, download the server file whose name matches your chosen release. Confirm the filename and date before extracting it. For a new 2.5 installation, the retrieved listing’s newest entry is 2.5.9 from December 10, 2021. Keep the downloaded zip unchanged as an installation source.
4. Extract the archive and inspect its readme
Extract all files into the dedicated directory. Read the included server instructions before launching anything. The readme is the authority for the Forge installer, launch script, Java arguments and any required file edits because the exact Forge build for 2.5 is not established by the available source material.
5. Install the specified Forge server build
Run the Forge installer or installation script supplied with the pack, using the build named by the server readme. Install it into the same server directory. Do not substitute the Forge version from another modpack, and do not mix files from two SkyFactory releases.
6. Accept the Minecraft EULA
Run the generated server launcher once. It may stop after creating eula.txt. Open that file, read the linked Minecraft EULA, change the acceptance setting to eula=true only if you agree, save it and run the launcher again.

7. Start with the generated launcher
Use the Windows batch file or Unix shell script generated by the pack and Forge installation. Prefer that script over inventing a new command because it contains the pack’s expected jar name and arguments. If you need custom memory settings, copy the script first, preserve the original, and change only the documented memory values.
The first startup can take noticeably longer while Forge builds caches and loads mods. The often-cited three-to-seven-minute figure comes from a SkyFactory 4 guide, not a measured SkyFactory 2.5 result, so do not use it as a promise. Watch the console for progress and investigate a genuine crash rather than terminating a busy first launch.
8. Configure the server after a clean boot
Stop the server cleanly, then edit server.properties for the world name, difficulty, player limit and other supported settings. Add trusted players to the whitelist and grant operator status only to administrators. Restart and confirm that the settings persist. Keep the generated mods, configuration and scripts together; moving only the world folder is not a complete migration.
Make the network reachable
A self-hosted server must be reachable from the internet or from the same local network. Allow the Java server through the host computer’s firewall, then configure the router to forward the port shown in server.properties to the computer’s local address. Give friends the public address and port, while players on the same home network use the local address. If the router uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not work; ask the internet provider for a public address or use a private networking solution that every player trusts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTest from outside your home network, such as a phone hotspot. A successful local connection does not prove that remote players can reach the server. Do not disable the firewall wholesale; create a rule limited to the Minecraft server process and the configured port.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Make every client match the server
Have each player install the same FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5 release and Minecraft 1.7.10 profile. Compare the displayed pack version, the mods directory and any custom configuration before troubleshooting the network. A SkyFactory 4 guide notes that the launcher brand itself is not important when the client and server mod lists and versions match; that is a general compatibility principle, not a 2.5-specific launcher guarantee. For this pack, matching files and versions matter more than the launcher name.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
- Do not let one player update individual mods independently.
- Do not copy a newer client configuration into an older server world without a backup.
- When a player gets a registry or missing-mod error, compare the complete pack build first.
- Keep optional client-only visual mods out of the server’s mod directory unless the pack instructions explicitly require them.
Operate and update the world safely
Use clean shutdowns
Stop the server from its console or control panel and wait for the save confirmation. Killing the process during a world save can corrupt region or player data.
Back up before every change
Create a dated backup before changing Forge, Java, the pack release, memory settings or major configuration. Record the old version beside the backup so a rollback is possible.

Copy the live server directory to a test directory, apply the new files there and connect with one test player. Check machines, inventories, dimensions, quests and startup logs before touching the production world. Never assume that a client update automatically upgrades an existing server safely.
Prefer the patched pack file
The 2.5.9 changelog states that its server files were updated to patch a security vulnerability. For a new deployment, use that file when it is compatible with every player’s client. If you must remain on an older build for an existing world, restrict access, keep backups and schedule a tested migration rather than mixing old and new files.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| “Missing mods” or registry-mismatch message | Client and server use different pack releases, Forge builds or mod files | Compare the complete version name and reinstall the exact server archive and client profile. |
| Server stops immediately after launch | Wrong Java runtime, an incorrect Forge build, unread EULA or incomplete extraction | Read the first error in the log, verify the Java requirement in the pack readme, confirm eula=true after accepting the EULA, and re-extract a clean archive. |
| Server starts but becomes unresponsive | Insufficient memory, heavy automation or a long loading operation | Check memory and tick-related messages, reduce simultaneous activity, and increase the hosted allocation or machine resources gradually. |
| Local players connect but friends cannot | Firewall, router forwarding, changing local address or carrier-grade NAT | Test externally, verify the forwarded destination and configured port, reserve the host’s local address, and confirm whether the internet provider permits inbound connections. |
| Players time out during the first launch | Forge and mods are still loading | Watch the console instead of repeatedly restarting. If the process eventually crashes, use the crash report and the first error line to identify the incompatible file. |
| World will not load after an update | Files were changed without a compatible migration or backup | Stop the server, restore the pre-update directory, and test the upgrade on a copy before trying again. |
A practical launch checklist
- Pack is identified as FTB Presents SkyFactory 2.5 for Minecraft 1.7.10.
- Exact release is recorded; the retrieved listing’s newest file is 2.5.9 dated December 10, 2021.
- Server archive came from the official CurseForge file listing.
- Forge build and Java requirement came from the selected pack’s own server instructions, not a different guide.
- EULA was read and accepted before setting
eula=true. - Server starts cleanly and finishes mod loading without errors.
- Memory is appropriate for the group; one provider’s recommendation is 2 GB, not a universal minimum.
- Firewall, router forwarding and external connectivity were tested for self-hosting.
- Every player has the same pack release, Minecraft version and compatible mod files.
- World and configuration backups exist before public play and before any update.
Which route should you use?
Choose hosted installation when quick deployment and a managed machine matter more than low recurring cost or deep system control. Choose self-hosting when you can maintain Java, Forge, networking and backups and want complete control over the files. In either case, success depends on one discipline: select one exact SkyFactory 2.5 build, install its corresponding server files, and keep every client on that same build.
