You generally can’t delete a completed Venmo transaction: Venmo’s help instructions document ways to change who can see a payment and hide past activity from your own view, not erase the payment record. If you sent a payment, you can make its audience more private, but the other participant can still see the transaction details.
Change the privacy of a payment you already sent
Venmo says you can change an individual payment’s privacy after it is sent. Open the payment, then tap its current privacy setting and choose a more private audience. Venmo’s instructions say a past payment can only be made more private than it was originally; you can’t broaden its audience after the fact. See Venmo’s instructions for changing payment privacy and hiding past payments. App labels or paths may change, so check the current app if they differ.
What Public, Friends, and Private mean

| Private | The payment is not shared beyond the personal transaction feeds and the other participant. |
Even when a payment is Private, all participants can still see the amount, note, sender and recipient names, and timestamp. Changing privacy therefore does not make the transaction disappear from the other participant’s history.
Hide all past transactions from your view
Venmo’s Privacy menu in Settings includes an option to hide all past transactions. This is a view control, not deletion: Venmo’s help page does not say that hiding past activity removes the transaction record or the other participant’s access.

Set the audience for future payments
To change the default privacy for payments you make going forward, use Venmo’s stated path: Me tab > Settings gear > Privacy, then choose Public, Friends, or Private. This changes the default audience; it does not delete payments already made.
If the payment is pending, wrong, or unauthorized
Pending payment
Do not assume a pending Venmo payment can be canceled. The official pages reviewed do not provide general cancellation rules for ordinary Venmo payments. Open the transaction details and follow the current instructions shown there, or contact Venmo Support. A separate Venmo page covers payments through Meta Messenger; its rules for certain unclaimed Messenger payments do not establish cancellation rules for ordinary Venmo payments.

Payment sent to the wrong person
If you sent money to the wrong person, the reviewed guidance does not promise that Venmo can erase the transaction. Contact support for help with the payment; do not treat a privacy change as a reversal.

Report unauthorized activity to Venmo as soon as possible. Have the transaction date, amount, and username of the person paid ready. Venmo’s stated in-app route is Me > Settings > Get Help > Chat With Us. Its instructions explain how to reach support but do not promise deletion of the transaction record. Account closure and data requests do not erase payment history
Venmo says you must complete pending transactions and move any remaining money before closing your account. After closure, it sends a final transaction-history message. Those steps do not establish that closing an account deletes old transaction records. See Venmo’s account-closure instructions.
You can also request a copy of your account data through Venmo.com settings. Venmo says reports usually arrive in 1–2 calendar days and can take up to 30 days. This is a data-access process, not a transaction-deletion method. See Venmo’s personal-data request instructions.
