If a delay puts your connection at risk at Hyderabad Airport, check the live status with your airline, contact the operating carrier promptly, and follow the airport’s transfer signs from the arrival hall. Whether the airline can rebook you or must provide other assistance depends on the applicable DGCA rules, your flight’s delay, and whether the onward flight is part of the same ticket.
What to do first when a delay threatens your connection
- Check the latest flight status. Use the operating airline’s app, website, or staffed counter, and check Hyderabad Airport’s flight information displays. The airport advises passengers to confirm flight status with the airline; timings can change. See the Hyderabad Airport passenger advisory and airport FAQ.
- Contact the airline as soon as possible. Ask whether it can protect or rebook your onward segment, whether the itinerary is treated as one connected booking, and where its transfer desk or counter is. Keep your booking reference, boarding passes, and delay notifications available. Hyderabad Airport directs passengers without an onward boarding pass to the airline transfer desk: Transfer Process.
- At the airport, follow transfer signs from the arrival hall. The transfer channel is in the arrival hall and leads to the relevant screening route. Ask airport passenger-service staff for directions; ask the airline about rebooking and ticket rights.
- Do not leave the airport or pass through immigration without checking first. Your route may require immigration, customs, security screening, or baggage collection, depending on whether the transfer is domestic or international and how your flights are booked.
Follow the transfer steps for your itinerary
Hyderabad’s RGIA has one integrated main terminal for domestic and international passengers, but the transfer process varies by route. The airport’s transfer guide describes these four cases:
| Connection | What to expect at Hyderabad |
|---|---|
| Domestic to domestic | Follow domestic-transfer signs, complete the required security screening, and check the flight displays for the onward gate. |
| International to international | Follow international-transfer signs and complete the required security screening. If you do not have the onward boarding pass, visit the airline transfer desk. |
| International to domestic | Clear Indian immigration, collect checked baggage if applicable, clear customs, then check in and pass security for the domestic flight. |
| Domestic to international | Follow signs to international departures and complete the required passport-control and security steps. Collect the international boarding pass at the airline counter if needed. |
Check what happens to checked baggage
The airport says baggage is usually transferred automatically when both flights are on one ticket. With separate bookings, you may need to collect your bags and check them in again. Confirm the baggage arrangement with your airline before entering the transfer route, and allow time for collection and re-checking if required.

India’s DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 3, Series M, Part IV, revision 4 dated 25 January 2023, set conditional assistance for passengers who checked in on time. The facilities depend on the expected delay and the flight’s block time—the scheduled time from take-off to landing. The CAR sets these thresholds:

| Flight block time | Expected delay threshold for specified facilities |
|---|---|
| Up to 2.5 hours | At least 2 hours |
| Over 2.5 hours and up to 5 hours | At least 3 hours |
| Other flights | At least 4 hours |
For domestic flights, the CAR says that if the expected delay exceeds 6 hours from the published or qualifying revised departure time, the airline must offer an alternate flight within 6 hours or a full refund. It also specifies hotel accommodation for delays over 24 hours, or over 6 hours for flights scheduled between 20:00 and 03:00. Eligibility depends on the CAR’s conditions; extraordinary circumstances can affect obligations. Consult the DGCA CAR and ask the airline to identify the provision that applies to your flight.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s 11 December 2023 summary says airlines must facilitate passengers under the CAR. For cancellations, it describes an alternate flight or compensation in addition to a full refund, as well as meals and refreshments for passengers already at the airport waiting for an alternate flight. For delays, it lists meals and refreshments, an alternate flight or refund, or hotel accommodation depending on the total delay; force majeure may exempt compensation. See the Ministry summary. The CAR itself is the better source for detailed conditions.

Before accepting a proposed option
- Ask the airline to state the available options and any deadline for choosing.
- Confirm whether your onward reservation remains confirmed and when a replacement flight would depart.
- Ask whether meals or accommodation are being arranged, and whether you must pay first.
- Keep receipts and written messages for expenses. Do not assume the airline will reimburse them unless the airline, your policy, or an applicable rule confirms reimbursement.
Know whether your connection is on one ticket or separate bookings
A missed connection does not automatically mean every onward flight is protected. Ticket structure can affect baggage handling and connection support, while airline terms determine which segments count as a connected itinerary. For example, IndiGo describes specific options under its Connected Segments/Route scheme when a delay or cancellation at the origin threatens a transit connection, and says it does not connect to other airlines. That is an example of one carrier’s policy, not a rule for all airlines; check IndiGo’s delay and cancellation FAQs or the terms of your operating carrier.

The available sources do not establish a general rule requiring recovery of a separately ticketed onward flight after a delay at Hyderabad. If you booked flights separately, ask both carriers what they will do. Check your travel-insurance policy for separate-ticket exclusions, minimum connection requirements, and covered causes.

Find airport help and manage a longer wait
Hyderabad Airport’s FAQ lists an enquiry point at the departure information desk in the check-in area and at Row G and Row P opposite arrival belt 11. It gives the airport call centre as 040 6660 6370. If the number or locations have changed, check the official airport FAQ. For flight-specific rebooking, contact the operating airline.
The airport’s transfer guide lists lounges, sleeping pods, dining, Wi-Fi, and medical assistance for transit passengers, and mentions a nearby hotel option for longer layovers. These are airport facilities or options; their listing does not mean the airline has arranged or paid for them in your case.
