You can gift an eligible Fortnite cosmetic that is currently in the Item Shop, but you cannot send a skin already in your locker. Epic says Fortnite gifts are non-refundable. Refund options such as Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets apply to certain Item Shop purchases you made for yourself—not gifts.
How to Gift Fortnite Skins
Fortnite gifting lets you buy an eligible current Item Shop offer for a friend using V-Bucks or real money where the offer allows it. The gift is sent to the recipient’s account; it does not transfer an item from your locker. Check Epic’s Fortnite gifting requirements and exclusions before purchasing, since availability and eligible offers can change.

Requirements and limits
- Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on the sending account.
- The sender must be at least level 2.
- The recipient must have been on the sender’s Friends list for at least two days.
- The sender can send no more than five gifts in a 24-hour period.
- The recipient must log in to receive the gift.
- Epic lists Android, PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox as platforms where Fortnite gifting is available.
Check the item, recipient, and price first
The cosmetic must be offered in the Item Shop when you buy the gift, and the recipient cannot already own it. Some bundles cannot be gifted if the recipient owns even part of the bundle. The price shown for gifting is based on the recipient’s ownership and can differ from the price you see for yourself, including a discount you may have.
Epic excludes V-Bucks, Battle Pass levels, items not currently in the Item Shop, some real-money offers, Fortnite Crew, Event Passes, and some dynamically priced bundles. The gift option shown for a particular offer is the best indicator of whether it can be sent.

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
Can I gift a skin I already own?
No. Epic does not offer a way to gift or trade a cosmetic already in your locker. Cosmetics remain on the Epic account where they were bought, earned, or claimed; they cannot be transferred between accounts. To send a skin, you must purchase an eligible Item Shop offer as a gift.
What You Need to Know About Refunds
| Purchase type | Refund route | Timing and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Fortnite cosmetic gift | Non-refundable | No refund window. Gifts are also excluded from Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets. |
| Your own eligible Item Shop purchase made with V-Bucks | Cancel Purchase or Return Ticket | Cancel within 24 hours if the item has not been used or equipped; or use an available Return Ticket for an eligible purchase made within the last 30 days. |
| Real-money purchase through a third party | Request a refund from the platform or seller | Epic says it cannot process refunds for third-party purchases; the third party’s policies apply. |
Can you refund a Fortnite gift?
No. Epic’s Fortnite gifting guidance says, “All gifts are non-refundable.” A gift is not eligible for the self-service return options for your own Item Shop purchases. If a payment reversal causes the gifted item to be removed, Epic says support cannot restore it.

Refunding your own eligible Item Shop purchase
If you bought an eligible item for yourself with V-Bucks, Epic provides two self-service options in the Item Shop return flow. Eligibility depends on the item and purchase; passes, gifts, and other listed categories are excluded. Check the current in-game or web return flow for the specific purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Cancel Purchase: Available for 24 hours after purchase if you have not used or equipped the item. Cancelling removes the item and returns the V-Bucks.
- Return Ticket: Can be used for an eligible purchase made within the last 30 days, if you have a ticket available. The item is removed and the V-Bucks are returned. Returned bundles must be returned as a whole.
Epic says accounts start with three Return Tickets, receive one every 365 days, and can hold no more than three. Epic support does not add extra tickets. See Epic’s Item Shop purchase return guidance for current steps and exclusions.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Purchases made through another platform or seller
For a real-money purchase processed by a third party, contact that platform or seller about its refund process. Epic’s terms state that third-party transactions are subject to that third party’s policies.
What to check before sending a gift
- Confirm the recipient’s Epic display name and verify they have been on your Friends list for at least two days.
- Check that 2FA is enabled and your account meets the level requirement.
- Find the exact cosmetic in the current Item Shop and confirm the recipient does not own it. Check ownership of every item in a bundle.
- Review the displayed gift price for that recipient; it may differ from your own price.
- Proceed only if you are comfortable with the gift being non-refundable.
Is a Fortnite V-Bucks gift card an alternative?
A Fortnite V-Bucks gift card can provide account credit, but it does not gift a particular skin. Epic says V-Bucks cannot be gifted directly through Fortnite’s gifting feature. Card redemption may be subject to country-specific restrictions, and card purchases may not be refundable. Before buying one, check Epic’s V-Bucks card terms, the recipient’s account and device compatibility, the card’s territory restrictions, and the retailer’s refund policy.

Do not confuse Fortnite gifts with Epic Games Store game gifts
Epic Games Store has a separate policy for gifting games: an unclaimed or rejected game gift expires after 14 days and is automatically refunded. That rule is for Epic Games Store games, not Fortnite Item Shop cosmetics. Fortnite cosmetic gifts remain non-refundable under Epic’s Fortnite gifting guidance. See Epic’s Epic Games Store gifting explanation for the separate game-gift policy.
