If weather is missing from your Android Auto screen, first check whether a weather app is actually available for Android Auto; installing it on your phone alone does not guarantee car-screen support. If you mean that the voice assistant will not answer a weather question, troubleshoot that separately. A spoken forecast is not the same as a permanent visual tile.
Get a weather app onto the Android Auto screen
- Check compatibility in Google Play. On your phone, open the Play Store while signed in to the Google account you use with Android Auto. Search for a weather app and check whether it is offered as compatible for your setup. Google notes that account personalization can affect which compatible apps appear: Android Auto-compatible apps.
- Check the Android Auto launcher. On your phone, open Android Auto settings and look for the app in the launcher’s list of available apps. If it is not there, phone installation by itself does not make it an Android Auto app. Google’s Android for Cars app guidance describes the categories and design rules for car apps.
- Contact the app’s developer if it should be compatible but is missing or not working. Google directs users to the developer for app-specific troubleshooting; the exact cause can depend on the app, account, phone, region, and vehicle.
Google documents Weather as a category for Android for Cars apps. That establishes that weather apps can be designed for car displays, not that every phone weather app is compatible or that every vehicle layout has a built-in forecast tile. For the developer requirements and examples of weather information, see Weather apps for Android for Cars.
If the voice assistant cannot give a forecast
When safely parked, ask the assistant experience currently available in your car for the current weather or forecast. Google documents weather responses through Assistant actions, including in its in-car Assistant overview. This route speaks weather information; it does not put a persistent visual forecast on the display.
The available assistant experience can vary during Google’s 2026 transition. Google says Gemini is replacing Assistant on most mobile devices as the rollout progresses; check the current Android Auto help guidance for the experience available to you. If a compatible weather app itself is failing, contact its developer rather than assuming the assistant and app share the same fault.

What weather information can a car app show?
Google’s weather-app design guidance describes weather-relevant information such as temperature, wind, radar overlays, and forecast periods. It also sets limits intended to reduce driver distraction: map visuals must be legible, displayed map content must be weather-related, and weather animations are not allowed on the templated surface while driving. The guidance allows upcoming-hour or day forecasts and heads-up alerts for important imminent or route-related weather, but these are design options and requirements—not a promise that every app provides each feature. See Google’s weather app design rules.
When choosing among apps that are actually available to your account and region, compare whether you need current conditions, hourly or daily forecasts, radar, spoken information, or route-related alerts. Google’s documentation does not endorse a particular commercial weather app.

Why a weather tile may still be absent
- The weather app may not support Android Auto or may not be visible for your account and device.
- A voice assistant’s ability to answer weather questions is separate from an app’s visual interface.
- Android Auto does not guarantee a permanent weather card on every screen layout.
Google’s 2019 Android Auto announcement described Assistant weather reports as a spoken feature: “By tapping the icon, your Assistant will tell you about your calendar, give you the weather report, read you the news or set a reminder for you.” That announcement is historical feature documentation, not confirmation that a specific visual tile is available today: Upgrade your drive with Android Auto.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTroubleshoot while parked
Configure apps and investigate display or assistant problems only when the vehicle is safely parked. Do not rely on a weather app’s visual display while driving; Google’s car-app rules are designed to constrain what the interface shows and how it behaves.
