In Dune: Awakening, water and heat are linked survival problems: stay out of direct sun when you can, use shade as exposure builds, and make water more dependable with a stillsuit and refined liquid from bodies. Dew can help in a pinch, but it is not a long-term supply plan.
What to do first when heat and thirst become a problem
- Get out of direct sun. Move into shade rather than continuing across exposed ground. Official game material identifies direct sun and heat as hazards and points players toward shade as an immediate response. Official game news also attributes the advice “Any exposed skin needs to be covered” to survival expert John Hudson; that is his presented guidance, not a gameplay item instruction.
- Use water you already have. Treat any available supply as a short-term buffer while you reduce exposure and work toward a more reliable source.

How a stillsuit helps with water
Crafting a stillsuit is an early step toward staving off dehydration, according to the game’s official exploration material. It belongs in your regular survival setup because it helps make water management less dependent on finding occasional dew. How to build a more reliable water supply
The game’s official site describes extracting liquid from bodies and refining it into water. This is the more dependable direction to work toward than relying on limited dew: collect the needed in-game source, then use the relevant refining process to turn it into usable water. Why shade still matters when you have water
Water does not make direct-sun exposure harmless. Official material treats heat and direct sun as hazards, while a community survival reference says sunstroke raises the dehydration rate. That makes shade useful for two reasons: it addresses heat exposure and helps avoid a condition that can make water run out faster. - Before crossing exposed terrain, check your water and plan where you can take shelter.
- When heat exposure builds, break the trip in shade instead of pushing on through direct sun.
