In Fortnite’s Fortnitemares 2026, the Skeleton Key is reported to be in a buried chest inside a mausoleum in Nightmare Neighborhood’s graveyard. Dig it up with your in-game Pickaxe, then take it to the nearby mansion: enter through the main entrance, open the first door on the left, and descend two flights of stairs to the basement doors. Use the key on one door to access its room. Locations and event availability can change, so check that Fortnitemares is active in your game.
Where to find the Skeleton Key
- Go to the graveyard at Nightmare Neighborhood. Walkthroughs place the key in a buried chest inside one of the mausoleums. Beebom reports three mausoleums, with buried chests in two of them; the guides do not identify a guaranteed mausoleum or publish odds for finding the key. Beebom’s Fortnitemares guide and GAMES.GG’s guide describe the graveyard route.
- Dig up the buried chest. Equip Fortnite’s Pickaxe and use it on the buried spot to uncover the chest. Open the chest to collect the Skeleton Key.
How to reach the secret room
- Go to the nearby mansion. Enter through the main entrance.
- Take the first door on the left. Go through it and descend two flights of stairs to reach the basement.
- Choose a basement door and use the key. The guides describe three doors; a Skeleton Key opens one door. GAMES.GG and Beebom report that players may find up to two keys in a match, but this is walkthrough-reported gameplay information, not an official statistic.
Guide accounts of the entrance route are not fully consistent: TechWiser describes breaking through a wall and a dining-room floor, rather than using the main entrance and stairs. The main-entrance route is the one also described by Beebom and GAMES.GG. TechWiser’s guide covers its alternate route.
What to expect behind the doors
Loot can vary between matches, and the guides report different chest outcomes. Beebom describes possible basic weapon or ammunition supplies as well as chests; GAMES.GG reports regular and Rare Chest outcomes. Neither guide provides official drop rates or establishes that a specific door always has the best reward, so treat the rooms as variable rather than searching for a guaranteed “best” door.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs the Skeleton Key still available?
The guides describe the Skeleton Key as a Fortnitemares-limited item and say it will be vaulted when the event ends. They do not establish an end date, so availability should be checked in the current game rather than assumed from a particular calendar date.
