Start with God of War (2018), then play God of War Ragnarök. Both games are available on PS4, PS5, and Windows PC. If you plan to play on PC, check the requirements for each game separately: the 2018 game lists 70 GB of storage, while Ragnarök requires a 190 GB SSD and a stronger minimum graphics card.
Which God of War should you play first?
Play God of War (2018) before God of War Ragnarök. PlayStation describes Ragnarök as the sequel to the 2018 game, so this order gives you the story in sequence. The official PlayStation FAQ also lists both games as playable on PS4, PS5, and PC: PlayStation’s God of War FAQ.

Can you play God of War on PC?
Yes. Both games are available on Windows PC, as well as PS4 and PS5. PlayStation lists Steam and the Epic Games Store as PC purchase options for both titles. Check the current storefront in your region for availability and pricing, which can change.
Check the PC requirements before choosing a game
The published specifications below are PlayStation’s vendor-stated requirements, not results from independent testing. The minimum targets are different, so check the requirements for the specific game you intend to play.

PlayStation lists the 2018 game’s storage requirement as 70 GB; the live product page does not state a publication year for that figure. PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio specified Ragnarök’s 190 GB SSD requirement in 2024. Its minimum and recommended performance targets are averages, not a guarantee of identical results on every PC. Choose a platform and input method
Choose based on the system you already own, your available PC storage and hardware, and how you prefer to control the games. On PC, both titles support keyboard and mouse as well as gamepads. Their PC pages describe customizable keyboard and mouse bindings, with support listed for DualShock 4, DualSense, and Xbox Wireless Controller or other gamepads.

A controller is optional. For Ragnarök, PlayStation says a wired DualSense connection is needed to use the full range of in-game controller features. If you prefer a controller, a DualSense is one supported option; you do not need to buy one to play, since keyboard and mouse are supported. On PC, linking a PlayStation account for Ragnarök is optional; it is not required to launch or play. Linking provides account features such as trophies and friend management, and grants the Armor of the Black Bear set, available at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms. PlayStation says the PC version has the same accessibility features as the PS5 version. Review the official Ragnarök page for feature details relevant to your needs.
