The Legend of Zelda: Temple of Seasons is a fan-made ROM hack based on The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, not a standalone Nintendo release. It is reported to add five dungeons and remove Link’s sword, putting more emphasis on items for combat and exploration. Before trying to patch it, confirm the compatible base game and ROM revision in the creator’s current release instructions: published reports disagree about which game is required, and the exact patching procedure has not been established.
What is Temple of Seasons?
Temple of Seasons is an unofficial expansion of the Game Boy Color adventure Oracle of Seasons. Coverage describes a five-dungeon journey from Subrosia to Mount Tetra. Unlike the original game, Link has no sword; tools and new items instead play a larger role in both combat and traversal. Retro Dodo’s September 1, 2026 coverage reproduces creator Jay’s description: “Here more than ever, your growing arsenal is necessary for both traversal and combat, and expect a few brand-new items to add a fresh take.”
PlayCentral reported that the hack was released August 31, 2026, and that version 1.072 was dated September 14, 2026. Those are dated reports rather than a guarantee that 1.072 remains the latest release; check the creator’s current release information before downloading.
What do you need to play it?
PlayCentral reports that the hack is distributed as a patch, not as a complete copy of Nintendo’s game, and identifies a legally acquired US copy of Oracle of Seasons as the required base. It also reports English on-screen text, consistent with that US base-game framing. However, Retro Dodo names Oracle of Ages (USA/Australia) instead. Because these accounts conflict, neither is enough to establish the exact compatible title, region, revision, or checksum. Confirm those details against the creator’s current release instructions before proceeding; owning a cartridge or obtaining a ROM of a similarly named game does not by itself establish compatibility.

The available reports do not establish the patch format, recommended patching utility, compatible emulator or hardware, or first-screen setup steps. Use the creator’s own instructions for those specifics rather than guessing at a patcher or ROM file. No particular emulator or device can be described here as tested.
How should a new player approach the adventure?
Expect to use the items you find as the core of both navigation and combat, rather than treating them as secondary to a sword. The reported premise is an expanding arsenal, including brand-new items; the sources do not provide a verified opening route, objective order, or complete hack walkthrough. Follow the game’s own prompts and item descriptions, and avoid relying on original-game route instructions as if they were confirmed for this hack.

If you have not played Oracle of Seasons, its opening provides useful background, but it is not proof of the hack’s opening sequence. In the original, Link arrives in Holodrum after Onox kidnaps Din. Impa points him toward the Maku Tree in Horon Village, and the main quest is to collect eight Essences of Nature. Link obtains the Rod of Seasons after the first dungeon and gradually unlocks its powers from the Season Spirits; at tree stumps, the Rod changes local conditions. These details describe the original Game Boy Color game, not a confirmed route through Temple of Seasons. Joking Joystick’s original-game walkthrough covers that campaign.

How does it differ from Oracle of Seasons?
| Question | Temple of Seasons | Original Oracle of Seasons |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | A fan-made ROM hack based on the Game Boy Color game. | The original Nintendo Game Boy Color game. |
| Combat and traversal | Reportedly removes Link’s sword and emphasizes tools and added items. | Original-game background includes the Rod of Seasons and its powers; the reviewed sources do not establish a like-for-like combat comparison. |
| Adventure structure | Reported to include five dungeons, with a journey from Subrosia to Mount Tetra. | The original campaign’s main quest is to collect eight Essences of Nature. |
| Compatibility and setup | Secondary reports conflict on the required base game; exact patch compatibility and procedure are not established. | Not applicable as a patch; it is the original game. |
The available coverage does not establish whether the hack is harder, how it performs on specific emulators, or how its accessibility compares with the original. The clearest reason to choose it is interest in a new, item-centered adventure; choose the original if you want the established sword-and-Rod campaign without patch compatibility questions.
