To get started, buy the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection from your local eShop, make room for its download, connect to the internet, and sign in to a Battle.net account. The collection includes Diablo IV, Vessel of Hatred, and Lord of Hatred. You do not need Nintendo Switch Online for cross-progression, but you do need an active subscription to play with people on other platforms.
What the Age of Hatred Collection includes
The Switch 2 collection bundles the base game with the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred expansions. Nintendo’s US announcement said it was available on September 16, 2026, while Nintendo UK lists September 15, 2026; check your local eShop for regional availability and current pricing. Nintendo of America stated a regular US price of $69.99 in its announcement, but that is not a universal or necessarily current price.
Nintendo’s listing describes 14 character slots and seven stash tabs. It lists eight playable classes: Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin, Rogue, Sorcerer, Spiritborn, and Warlock. Choose based on the style you want to try; the available information does not establish one class as the best starting choice.

What you need before downloading
- A Nintendo Account: Use it to access the eShop and purchase or download the game.

- A persistent internet connection: The game is online-only, including when playing solo.
- Enough free storage: Nintendo UK lists a 69.4 GB download; Nintendo Australia lists a 71.4 GB game file size. These are region-specific listing figures, so check your local eShop and available console or microSD Express storage before downloading.

Download and start playing
- Open the Nintendo eShop with your Nintendo Account and find Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection for Nintendo Switch 2. Confirm the platform and local listing before buying.
- Download the collection after ensuring sufficient free storage. The regional listing’s file size is the best guide for your download.
- Connect the Switch 2 to the internet, launch the game, and sign in to or create a Battle.net account when prompted.
- Choose whether to play handheld, tabletop, or docked, then select a class and begin. Nintendo lists one to two local players and one to four online players; each local multiplayer player needs a compatible controller.
The official product information establishes these requirements but does not specify every on-screen setup prompt, so the labels and order you see may vary with updates.
Do you need Nintendo Switch Online?
It depends on how you want to play. Blizzard’s Switch 2 FAQ says an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required for cross-play with players on other platforms. Without NSO, you can still play the campaign, side quests, open-world activities, couch co-op, The Tower and Leaderboards, as well as seasonal ranks and content.

Blizzard also says NSO is not required for cross-progression. However, that does not mean you can play offline: Diablo IV still requires a persistent internet connection. Without NSO, Blizzard says you cannot join online parties, trade, join a Clan, participate in PvP, or encounter other players in the open world. [Blizzard’s Nintendo Switch 2 FAQ]

Blizzard says cross-progression lets you access progress on supported platforms, including Switch 2. Sign in with the Battle.net account associated with the progress you want to use. Blizzard’s FAQ does not fully detail how platform licenses or expansion entitlements apply when moving between systems, so check that the content you want to play is owned on the platform you are using.
