Roblox “shaders” are usually post-processing effects added with ReShade. They can change color, contrast, sharpening, bloom, exposure, and—when Roblox and the selected effect allow it—depth-based shading. They do not add real RTX lighting or replace Roblox’s lighting engine.
The most reliable current method is to install ReShade directly for RobloxPlayerBeta.exe. Bloxstrap is optional and does not provide a shader engine. Bloxshade, which was previously used as a Roblox/ReShade installer, is currently unavailable.
Important: Roblox does not provide a blanket guarantee that third-party injectors or launchers are safe from enforcement. Roblox’s published guidance recommends the official Roblox client and does not officially support Bloxstrap. Use third-party software only if you accept that compatibility and account-safety risks can change.

What you need
- A Windows PC. ReShade lists support for Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11.
- .NET Framework 4.8 for the ReShade setup program.
- The official ReShade installer. As of August 7, 2026, the current release is ReShade 6.8.0, released August 2, 2026.
- The installed Roblox desktop client.
ReShade’s standard build supports Direct3D 9, Direct3D 10, Direct3D 11, Direct3D 12, OpenGL, and Vulkan. The important part is selecting the API actually used by the Roblox executable you install it against; do not blindly choose an API because a guide lists it as universal.

ReShade versus Bloxstrap and Bloxshade

If you use Bloxstrap, download it only from its official GitHub repository or bloxstraplabs.com. The documented installation command is:
winget install bloxstrapBloxstrap requires the .NET 6 Desktop Runtime and prompts for it if necessary. Windows SmartScreen may display a warning the first time; the project documents selecting More info, then Run anyway. Bloxstrap is optional for this tutorial. Installing it does not install ReShade by itself.
How to install Roblox shaders with ReShade
1. Locate RobloxPlayerBeta.exe
- Open Windows Explorer and find the shortcut you use to launch Roblox.
- Right-click the shortcut and select Open file location.
- If that folder contains another shortcut rather than the game executable, right-click the shortcut and choose Go to file location again.
- Find the executable named
RobloxPlayerBeta.exe.
Installing ReShade against a shortcut, an updater, or the wrong Roblox executable is one of the main reasons the overlay does not appear.

2. Download and start ReShade
- Download ReShade 6.8.0 from reshade.me.
- Choose the normal Download ReShade 6.8.0 option unless you specifically understand why you need the separate full add-on-support build.
- Run the setup program.
- When it asks you to select a game, click Browse rather than relying on automatic detection.
- Select
RobloxPlayerBeta.exe.
If the setup tool will not open, install or repair .NET Framework 4.8, then run the installer again.
3. Select Roblox’s graphics API
ReShade shows four installer categories: DirectX 9, DirectX 10–12, OpenGL, and Vulkan. Select the API used by the executable you selected, then click Next.

There is no verified universal instruction to select OpenGL for Roblox. ReShade’s troubleshooting guidance warns that automatic API detection can be wrong, so if the overlay fails, reinstall and test the API that matches the client’s actual rendering mode. Selecting the wrong API can result in no overlay, a broken image, or a crash.
4. Install effect packages
- At the preset-selection screen, click Skip if you want to choose shader repositories manually.
- Select the effect packages you want from the available list.
- Click Next and wait for the downloads to finish.
- Close the installer when it completes.
ReShade presets use .ini files. A preset may also depend on shader files from a repository that was not included in your initial installation, so installing a preset file alone is not always enough.

- Launch Roblox from the Roblox website.
- Wait for the client to open fully.
- Look for the ReShade introduction message or overlay at the top of the screen.
- If the tutorial appears, complete or dismiss it.
- Press Home (also called Pos1) to open the ReShade interface.
- Stay on the Home tab and check the boxes beside the effects you want to enable.
Start with lightweight effects such as color adjustment, sharpening, bloom, or exposure. Enable one effect at a time so you can identify the one responsible for visual problems or performance loss.
Install and load a preset
A preset is an .ini configuration file containing enabled effects and their settings. To use one, place the preset where ReShade can access it, open the in-game ReShade interface, and select it from the preset control on the Home page. The preset will only work correctly if its required shader files, textures, and dependencies are also installed.
If effects mentioned by the preset do not appear:
- Check that shader files exist in
reshade-shadersShadersinside the Roblox game directory. - Open ReShade and select Settings.
- Find Effect Search Paths.
- Add or correct the shader directory, normally:

Change the ReShade overlay key
The default overlay key is Home/Pos1. You can change it in the ReShade interface, or edit ReShade.ini while Roblox is closed. Under the [INPUT] section, change:

KeyOverlay=36,0,036 is the documented keycode for Home/Pos1. The second and third values represent the Ctrl and Shift modifiers.
What effects work in Roblox?
Basic screen effects can work normally, but ReShade cannot guarantee that every shader will work in Roblox. It processes the completed frame and cannot inherently tell game-world pixels apart from interface pixels.
- Color, exposure, sharpening, and bloom: commonly useful because they operate on the visible image.
- FXAA and SMAA: can smooth edges but may also blur Roblox text and HUD elements.
- Depth of field, MXAO, and other depth effects: may fail, flicker, or be disabled.
ReShade automatically disables depth access during multiplayer in order to prevent exploitation. Because Roblox is an online multiplayer client, depth-dependent effects may not work even when ordinary color effects do. Network activity can also cause depth access to become unavailable during a session.
ReShade does not add native Roblox lighting, ray tracing, or RTX. It applies post-processing after Roblox has rendered the scene.

Fix ReShade problems in Roblox

Removing ReShade
- Close Roblox completely.
- Run the ReShade setup program again.
- Select the same
RobloxPlayerBeta.exe. - Choose the uninstall option when offered.
If you remove files manually, preserve a backup first and delete only files installed by ReShade. Reinstalling the official Roblox client is another way to restore a clean client if you are unsure which files belong to the injector.

Not necessarily. Bloxstrap can change how Roblox launches and offers launcher and configuration features, but ReShade remains the component that applies post-processing. Since the Bloxstrap repository currently says the project is not under active development, Roblox client or distribution changes may cause it to stop working. The latest recorded release is v2.11.4, released before the current status note.
If Bloxstrap breaks after a Roblox update, test the official Roblox launcher and ReShade installation separately. This separates a launcher problem from an injector or graphics-API problem.
FAQ
Is Bloxshade working right now?
No current working installer is available from the official Bloxshade site. It currently says Bloxshade is unavailable and directs visitors to the source code. Older GitHub release notes do not prove that it works with the current Roblox client.
Can Roblox ban me for using ReShade?
There is no official Roblox guarantee that ReShade is exempt from enforcement. Roblox’s published anti-cheat guidance recommends the official client and warns about modified clients and unsupported third-party software. Use ReShade only if you accept that policy and compatibility risks can change.

Which graphics API should I select for Roblox in ReShade?
Select the API actually used by the Roblox executable you are targeting. Do not treat OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan as a universally correct Roblox choice. If ReShade does not appear, reinstall against the correct executable and verify the API selection.
Why does ReShade work in the menu but not in a Roblox game?
Depth-dependent effects can be disabled during online multiplayer or network activity. Ordinary color and sharpening effects may continue working while MXAO, depth of field, and other depth-based effects fail.
Where are ReShade presets stored?
Presets are .ini files. ReShade creates and edits them through its in-game interface, and the preset location can be selected from the ReShade preset controls.

Yes. Bloxstrap is optional. Install ReShade directly against RobloxPlayerBeta.exe and launch Roblox normally from the official Roblox website.

For a current Roblox shader setup, install ReShade 6.8.0 directly against RobloxPlayerBeta.exe, select the graphics API used by that executable, install the required effect packages, and open the overlay with Home. Bloxstrap is optional, Bloxshade is currently unavailable, and depth-heavy effects may not work reliably in Roblox multiplayer. Keep a clean way back to the official Roblox client if an update causes crashes or compatibility problems.
