You can see songs identified by a Pixel on a Wear OS watch using Now On Wrist, a third-party companion app. The Pixel phone does the ambient recognition; the watch receives and displays the result. Google’s current Now Playing instructions cover the phone, not an official Wear OS setup flow, so this is not a native Google watch feature.
What you need
- A Pixel phone with Now Playing enabled and identifying nearby music.
- A Wear OS watch running version 3.0 or later. The Now On Wrist Google Play listing names Pixel Watch as one example, but check the listing for your exact watch and region.
- Now On Wrist installed on the phone and watch, with the devices paired and the permissions the app requests granted.
These requirements come from the app developer’s Google Play listing; they are not a Google guarantee of compatibility. Google notes that Wear OS app availability may vary by device and region in its Pixel Watch app installation instructions.
Set it up
- Enable and check Now Playing on your Pixel. Google says the phone can identify nearby songs and show results on its lock screen. You can also use the Now Playing app, widget, and Quick Settings for song search and history. If you have just downloaded the app, Google says it may take up to 24 hours to become ready. - Install Now On Wrist on both devices. Find the app in Google Play on the phone and watch. Confirm that the listing offers it for your particular watch before relying on the setup.
- Pair the devices and complete the app’s setup. Grant the permissions it requests. The listing does not provide a complete permission-by-permission sequence, so follow the prompts shown on your devices rather than assuming a particular menu path or notification setting.
- Check the watch for song results. The listing describes alerts, a tile, watch-face complications, and song history. Which surfaces are available can depend on your watch and setup.
What appears on the watch—and what does not
Now On Wrist is a bridge: according to its listing, the Pixel recognizes the track and the companion sends song information to the watch. It does not mean the watch itself is listening for and recognizing nearby music.

Pixel Watch music apps and playback controls are a separate function. Google’s Pixel Watch app information lists music services and playback controls; that is not documentation of ambient song recognition by the watch.
Privacy: the phone and watch app are separate
Google says Now Playing uses an on-device music library to identify songs. If that library does not recognize a track or needs more details, the phone may send a short digital audio fingerprint to Google for cloud matching. Separately, the Now On Wrist developer says its app does not record audio or upload data and uses Google Play Services’ local Wearable Data Layer. That is the developer’s claim about its companion, not an independent audit and not a description of Google’s phone-side matching.

Shazam’s official product page mentions Android Wear. Shazam is a separate recognition app, not a way to transfer results from Pixel Now Playing. The page does not establish setup or compatibility for every current Wear OS watch, so check its availability on your model before choosing it.
