You can get Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Music Unlimited free only when Amazon shows your account an eligible trial offer. Both can automatically become paid subscriptions, so check the trial end date and renewal terms before you enroll. If no trial appears, Amazon also offers music access through Prime and a limited ad-supported option—but neither is the same as Music Unlimited.
This guide reflects Amazon’s U.S. pages. Eligibility, offer availability and terms can vary by account and location.
How to get a Kindle Unlimited free trial
Amazon says eligible customers can sign up for a Kindle Unlimited free trial, but its help page does not set one trial length for everyone. You need an Amazon account and a current, valid payment method. At the end of the trial, the subscription automatically converts to a monthly paid plan unless you cancel.

- Open Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited offer page and check whether a trial is displayed for your account.
- Before accepting, note the trial end date and the monthly renewal terms shown on the offer.
- Enroll only if you are comfortable with those terms. If no trial is shown, do not assume your account is eligible.
What Kindle Unlimited includes
A Kindle e-reader is not required. Amazon says you can read on Kindle devices or use the free Kindle app on a smartphone, tablet or computer. Members can borrow up to 20 titles at a time, with no due dates; returning a title frees a place to borrow another. The catalog can change, so a title’s availability is not guaranteed to remain the same.

Beginning April 22, 2026, magazine issues borrowed through Kindle Unlimited count toward the same 20-title limit. Amazon also says new magazine issues are no longer automatically delivered.
How to get an Amazon Music Unlimited free trial
Amazon advertises free trials for eligible new Music Unlimited subscribers, but the trial length and renewal price are not universal. Amazon’s offer pages can show different terms, and its Music terms say some trials automatically convert to paid plans unless canceled before the trial ends. Use the offer displayed while signed in rather than relying on a duration or price mentioned elsewhere.

Amazon lists Individual, Family, Single Device and Student Music Unlimited plan types. Which plans or trial offers you can select depends on the terms shown to you. Amazon describes its catalog as including 100 million songs on its offer page and over 15 million podcast episodes on its help page; those are Amazon’s own catalog figures, not independent measurements.

| Option | Separate Unlimited subscription? | What Amazon describes | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Music Unlimited | Yes, unless you are using an eligible trial | A premium subscription with songs, podcasts, playlists and stations. | Trial availability, duration and renewal price depend on the offer shown to your account; it can renew automatically. |
| Amazon Music Prime | No additional Unlimited subscription for eligible Prime members | A music benefit included with eligible Prime membership. | Prime is a separate membership and is not universally free. Listening modes and offline limits differ from Unlimited; features can vary by device and location. |
| Amazon Music free with ads | No Prime or Unlimited subscription for the U.S. access described in Amazon’s FAQ | An ad-supported selection of playlists and stations on compatible Alexa-enabled devices. | It is not the full on-demand Unlimited catalog, and ads may appear. Amazon specifies compatible-device access for U.S. customers without Prime or Unlimited. |
Amazon’s Music FAQ and terms describe these as distinct services. A Prime benefit or ad-supported listening should not be treated as a free Unlimited subscription.
How to avoid an unexpected renewal charge
Before starting either trial, record the end date, renewal amount and billing provider shown in the offer. Set a reminder that gives you time to act before the trial ends. Cancellation steps depend on how the subscription was started and billed.

Cancel Kindle Unlimited
For a subscription started through Amazon, use the Kindle Unlimited membership area in your Amazon account to cancel. Amazon says membership remains active until the next billing date; after that date, borrowed titles become inaccessible. Amazon allows a monthly subscription to be paused for one month, but not during a free trial or promotional period.
Cancel Amazon Music Unlimited
For a subscription billed directly by Amazon, cancel renewal in Amazon Music Settings. If you subscribed through a third party, you may need to cancel through that provider instead. Confirm the cancellation in the relevant account so you know it took effect. Amazon’s Music Terms of Use were last updated September 30, 2026, and say trial plans may automatically convert unless canceled before the trial ends.

Is Kindle Unlimited free with Prime?
Do not assume it is. The Amazon pages covered here describe Kindle Unlimited as a separate subscription with an eligibility-based trial. Prime membership includes an Amazon Music benefit, but the cited pages do not establish that Prime includes Kindle Unlimited.
Can you use Kindle Unlimited without a Kindle?
Yes. Amazon says the free Kindle app works on smartphones, computers and tablets, as well as Kindle devices. You do not need to buy a Kindle e-reader to use the service.
