You can watch Hulu directly on a supported smart TV: connect the TV to the internet, open the Hulu app, and sign in with your Hulu account. If your TV does not support Hulu, use a supported streaming player or game console connected to it. Check the exact device model against Hulu’s current list before buying anything, because support can vary by model and software.
Check whether your TV supports Hulu
Search for Hulu in your television’s app store, then verify the exact make and model against Hulu’s supported Roku models, supported Android TV models, or supported VIZIO Smart TV models, as applicable. A brand name alone does not establish compatibility: supported models and software requirements differ, and device lists can change.
For example, Hulu’s guidance identifies select Roku models, Android TV devices running Android OS 6.0 or later, and VIZIO Smart TV models released in 2016 or later. Treat these as model-family guidance, not a guarantee that every device in those categories works; confirm your specific TV and current software requirements before relying on them.

Watch Hulu through your TV’s built-in app
If your television is supported, connect it to the internet, open Hulu from the TV’s app interface, and sign in with your Hulu account. Hulu’s Help Center describes the basic requirement simply: “If your TV supports Hulu App, you can watch Hulu just by connecting your TV to the internet.” The page is from Hulu Japan; it supports this general connection principle, while device compatibility for US viewers should be checked against Hulu’s US device information.

Use a streaming device or game console if your TV is unsupported
Connect a supported streaming player to an available HDMI input on the television, switch the TV to that input, and open Hulu through the player’s apps. Hulu lists device families such as Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Chromecast. Select models are supported, so check Hulu’s current list for the exact product before purchasing.
A compatible game console can also provide Hulu if it is already connected to the TV. Hulu’s Live TV device page lists select Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch. Verify that your particular console is supported and that it offers the Hulu content or features you need.

Hulu’s current Live TV device list includes select Roku and Samsung or LG TV models, Apple TV (4th generation or later), Chromecast, Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Android TV, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 and 5. This is a list of supported examples, not a guarantee that every model in a named family is compatible.
What you need for Hulu + Live TV
Hulu says Hulu + Live TV requires a subscription, a supported device, and a high-speed internet connection. Its standard allowance supports live video on up to two screens at once. To establish the account’s home location, Hulu requires residential, non-mobile internet; a mobile hotspot cannot serve as the home network.

Live channel lineups depend on location. Regional restrictions and blackouts may affect what you can watch, so check Hulu’s local availability information when choosing the service.

If Hulu is missing or will not open
- Hulu is not in the TV’s app store: Confirm the exact TV model and software against Hulu’s current device information. If it is unsupported, use a supported streaming player or console instead.
- The app is present but unavailable: Check that the TV is connected to the internet and that the model and software remain supported.
- You are choosing a new device: Confirm the specific model in Hulu’s current device list before buying; support for one model does not establish support for another from the same brand.
