Apple Mail on iPhone offers three ways to bring a message back to your attention: Follow Up Suggestions for sent emails without a reply, Remind Me for a message you want to revisit at a chosen time, and flags for messages you want to find later.
Follow up on an email you sent
If you send a message and receive no response for several days, Mail may automatically move it back to the top of your inbox. Apple describes this as a way to help you remember to follow up; it does not specify an exact number of days or let you choose when this happens. Open the returned message to continue the conversation in its existing thread. Apple Support explains Follow Up Suggestions.
Turn off Follow Up Suggestions
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps, then Mail.
- Turn off Follow Up Suggestions.
Set a reminder to revisit a message
Use Remind Me when you want to choose when a message should return to your attention. Apple’s instructions apply to a message in the Primary category.

- Tap the Reply button.
- Tap Remind Me, then choose when you want the reminder.
At the selected time, Mail moves the message back to the top of your inbox. See Apple’s instructions for checking email in Mail on iPhone.

Flag a message to find it later
A flag marks a message for retrieval rather than setting a reminder time. Flagged messages remain in the Inbox and also appear in the Flagged mailbox. The flag appears on the message across your Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple Support explains how to flag messages.
Choose the right option
- Follow Up Suggestions: for an email you sent that has gone unanswered; Mail may bring it back after several days.
- Remind Me: for a Primary message you want to revisit at a time you choose.
- Flag: for marking a message so you can find it in the Flagged mailbox.
Mail also includes standard Follow Up, Remind Me, and Send Later mailboxes. These are mailbox views; their names alone do not establish separate scheduling controls. See Apple’s overview of mailboxes on iPhone and iPad.

If an option is missing
Menu names and availability can vary with your iOS version, language, region, or Mail configuration. Check that iOS is up to date and look for the described option in Mail and Settings; the Remind Me steps specifically refer to the Primary category.
