The practical documented way to get a Turkmenistani IP address is to connect through a VPN that offers a Turkmenistan location. Proton VPN currently lists that location, but it is not included in the provider’s Free plan. Proton also documents Turkmenistan as a Smart Routing location through Marseille, France, so the IP may appear Turkmenistani even though the VPN hardware is physically elsewhere.
How to connect to a Turkmenistan VPN location
- Confirm availability and plan access. Check the VPN provider’s current server list and plan details before subscribing; locations and entitlements can change. Proton VPN’s guide says Turkmenistan servers are not available on its Free plan.
- Install and sign in. Download the provider’s app for your device and sign in to an eligible account.
- Select Turkmenistan and connect. In Proton VPN, choose Turkmenistan from the map or server list. Proton’s company FAQ says: “To select the fastest server in Turkmenistan for your location, open the Proton VPN app and double-tap the marker in Turkmenistan on the map in the VPN interface.” This is the provider’s guidance, not an independently tested speed or result.
- Check the public IP. Use an IP lookup service and see whether it identifies the public IP as Turkmenistani. This is a suggested check, not a test conducted for this guide. IP databases can disagree, and a website may use signals other than your public IP.
- Troubleshoot recognition issues. If a site still identifies another region, disconnect and reconnect, then check for IP or DNS leaks with a reputable leak-checking tool. Proton documents Turkmenistan as routed through Marseille, France, which can help explain differing location results. A VPN connection does not guarantee that every geo-restricted service will accept it.
What Proton VPN currently lists
Proton VPN’s server directory, accessed October 7, 2026, lists one Turkmenistan location with four servers. These are provider-reported counts from that date, not an independent infrastructure audit, and may change. Its Turkmenistan guide says the Free plan does not include those servers; a paid plan is required for the location. Current prices and checkout terms are not established here, so check Proton’s plan page before purchasing.
There is an important distinction between the country a service presents to websites and the physical location of its equipment. Proton’s Smart Routing documentation lists “Turkmenistan: France (Marseille).” In other words, a public IP may geolocate to Turkmenistan even though the VPN server handling the connection is physically in France.
What a Turkmenistani IP can—and cannot—guarantee
A provider’s location listing is not the same as independent confirmation that every IP database or website will classify the address as Turkmenistani. IPinfo’s country network page shows no VPN providers in its summary, but that limited third-party listing does not establish that Proton’s service is unavailable or that its exit IP cannot be classified as Turkmenistani. Check the result with an IP lookup service and with the specific site you need to access.

No independent connection test, speed measurement, or streaming compatibility result is established here. Do not assume that a particular service will work solely because a VPN app displays Turkmenistan.
Legal and access considerations
Proton VPN says VPN use in Turkmenistan is legal and also reports that the government has blocked many VPN websites. Treat both as the provider’s statements, not definitive legal advice. A reproduction of Turkmenistan’s internet services law, amended in 2024, describes regulation of internet services and information-retention obligations but does not by itself settle the legality of every VPN use. Check current local rules, and remember that VPN use does not exempt online activity from applicable law. Access to a provider’s website or app may also be difficult where VPN websites are blocked.
