Create the key in the Cfx.re Portal, then enter it in txAdmin during first-server setup or add it to the loaded RedM server.cfg with sv_licenseKey.
What a RedM registration key is
A RedM server registration key is the credential that authorizes an FXServer instance to use the Cfx.re platform. It is created in the Cfx.re Portal by the Cfx.re account that will own the server. The key is not generated in the RedM client, and no physical product is required.
After creating the key, you can run the RedM server with Godlike.Host RedM hosting, which uses a Pterodactyl-based game panel and offers 24/7/365 support. It is not on Cfx.re’s list of authorized RedM hosts (redm.net, 10 Oct 2026).

- txAdmin: paste the key into the first-server or recipe-deployment form.
- Manual configuration: put the key in the

A RedM server also needs a RedM/rdr3 game recipe or launch configuration. A FiveM recipe is not a substitute, even if the registration-key field looks similar.
What you need before generating the key
Prepare these items before opening the portal:
- A supported Windows or Linux host for FXServer.
- Access to the host’s terminal or startup controls.
- A Cfx.re account that should own the server.
- Access to the server’s txAdmin setup page or its configuration files.
- A server name that identifies the environment, such as a production, staging or test server.
Choose the owner account carefully. The account used to link txAdmin and create the registration key should be the one your team intends to retain for administration. Naming the key after the server or environment makes later rotation and troubleshooting less confusing when several servers exist.
Generate the registration key in the Cfx.re Portal
1. Start FXServer so txAdmin can open
Start FXServer without an exec argument. In this mode, txAdmin opens its initial setup flow instead of immediately loading a preselected configuration. The panel displays a setup URL and a PIN.

Open that URL from a browser that can reach the host, enter the PIN shown by the panel, and link the Cfx.re account that will own the server. Keep the terminal or startup window available; it is the easiest place to confirm which configuration FXServer later loads.

2. Open the server-registration area
Sign in to the Cfx.re Portal with the account you just linked. Open the Servers or registration keys area. Portal labels can change, so use the section that offers server-key creation rather than looking for a setting inside the RedM game client.
3. Create and name the key
Choose Generate or Create key. Enter a recognizable name for the RedM server or environment, then submit the form. The portal returns a registration-key value.
Copy the complete value immediately and store it in a private password manager or another access-controlled location. Do not post it in public chat, screenshots, issue reports or support tickets. Anyone who obtains the value may be able to use it with a server configuration, so treat it like a credential rather than an ordinary server label.
Set up the key with txAdmin
txAdmin is the simpler path when you are creating a first server from the guided interface. Its setup form asks for the local server name, the Cfx.re server registration key and any database details required by the selected recipe.

- Printed on Highest Quality Poster Paper.
- Poster measures 16" x 24" inches
- In the txAdmin first-server wizard, enter a local name that identifies this RedM instance.
- Paste the registration-key value generated in the Cfx.re Portal into the server-registration-key field.
- Choose a RedM/rdr3 recipe, such as
citizenfx default-redm, rather than a FiveM recipe. - Supply any database details requested by that recipe. If the recipe does not require a database, leave those options at the values appropriate to that recipe.
- Complete recipe deployment and watch the txAdmin console for confirmation that the intended configuration and resources are loading.
Do not paste the key into a general chat box, a resource configuration field or a RedM client setting. The relevant txAdmin field is the one labeled for the Cfx.re server registration key during first-server or recipe deployment.
Set up the key manually in server.cfg
Manual setup is useful when your startup controls, repository or deployment process already manages the configuration files. The important detail is that the key must be placed in the server.cfg file that the running FXServer process actually loads.
- Locate the configuration file referenced by your FXServer startup controls.
- Open that file in a text editor on the server host.
- Add the registration-key convar on its own line:
sv_licenseKey "YOUR_KEY"
- Replace
YOUR_KEYwith the complete value copied from the Cfx.re Portal. Keep the quotation marks required by the configuration syntax. - Save the file and verify that the startup command or control panel points to this exact file, not to a different test or example configuration.
- Use a RedM/rdr3 recipe or equivalent RedM launch configuration, then start FXServer and monitor the console as resources load.
If you maintain separate production and test configurations, give each key and file a clear environment name. This prevents a valid key from being accidentally paired with the wrong server definition.

The registration key alone does not turn a FiveM setup into a RedM setup. During txAdmin deployment, select a RedM/rdr3 recipe such as citizenfx default-redm. In a manual deployment, use the RedM game configuration and resource set expected by your server.

After deployment, confirm in the console that the intended configuration and resources are being loaded. If the console shows a configuration for a different game, stop and correct the recipe or startup selection before diagnosing the key itself.
txAdmin versus manual configuration
| Decision point | txAdmin setup | Manual server.cfg setup |
|---|---|---|
| Where the key is generated | Cfx.re Portal, in the Servers or registration-keys area | |
| Where the key is entered | First-server or recipe-deployment registration-key field | Loaded server.cfg as sv_licenseKey "YOUR_KEY" |
| Recipe selection | Select a RedM/rdr3 recipe, for example citizenfx default-redm |
Use a RedM/rdr3 recipe or equivalent launch configuration yourself |
| Configuration discovery | txAdmin guides the initial server and shows the setup URL and PIN | You must verify the startup controls reference the intended file |
| Best fit | First server or a guided deployment | Existing automation, custom startup controls or multiple managed configs |
| Credential handling | Keep the value private in txAdmin’s setup and your secret storage | Keep the value private in the configuration-management process and rotate it if exposed |
Verify that the server is using the intended key
Verification is mostly a configuration check:
- Confirm the key was created in the Cfx.re Portal, not copied from a client screen or an unrelated server.
- Check that txAdmin’s first-server form contains the key if you used the guided route.
- For a manual route, open the exact
server.cfgnamed by the FXServer startup controls and confirm thesv_licenseKeyline is present. - Check the FXServer console while it starts and make sure it is loading the intended config and RedM resources.
- Confirm that the selected recipe is RedM/rdr3 rather than FiveM.
When these checks agree, a key problem is less likely to be caused by the portal generation step and more likely to be a file-selection, recipe or credential-handling mistake.

The key was created in the wrong place
The registration key comes from the Cfx.re Portal. Creating a value in a RedM client, resource menu or local text file does not register it. Generate a new value in the portal and use that value in txAdmin or server.cfg.
The complete value was not copied
A truncated or altered value will not match the credential issued by the portal. Copy the full value again and replace the existing entry. In a manual file, preserve the syntax exactly:
sv_licenseKey "YOUR_KEY"
Do not replace the key with the human-readable name you assigned in the portal; the server needs the generated value.
FXServer is loading another configuration
This is a common manual-setup failure. You may have edited one server.cfg while the startup controls point to another. Inspect the startup command or hosting-panel configuration, open the file it references, and place the sv_licenseKey line there. Then check the console to ensure the intended configuration is being loaded.
A FiveM recipe was selected
A valid registration key does not correct a game-configuration mismatch. Replace the FiveM recipe with a RedM/rdr3 recipe, such as citizenfx default-redm, and redeploy or adjust the manual launch configuration accordingly.

txAdmin keeps asking for the key
Return to the first-server or recipe-deployment form and enter the portal-generated value in the field specifically labeled for the Cfx.re server registration key. Check that the setup was completed for the same server instance you are starting. If you switched hosts or configurations, verify that txAdmin is operating on the instance whose setup URL and PIN you used.
The key was exposed
Assume a key is compromised if it appeared in a public chat, screenshot, log paste or support ticket. Rotate or replace it in the Cfx.re Portal, update the txAdmin configuration or the loaded server.cfg, and start the server with the replacement value. Remove the exposed value from any shared notes and restrict access to the new one.
Safe key-management practices
- Use descriptive names: include the server or environment in the portal name so you can identify the correct credential later.
- Limit access: share the value only with administrators who need to configure the server.
- Keep it out of public diagnostics: redact the value before sharing console output, screenshots or configuration excerpts.
- Separate environments: keep production and test configurations clearly labeled so a key is not inserted into the wrong server.
- Rotate after exposure: replace the portal credential and update every configuration that used the old value.
- Check the loaded file: whenever a key appears invalid, verify the actual FXServer startup target before changing unrelated resources.
Quick checklist
- Start FXServer without an
execargument and open the txAdmin setup URL using the displayed PIN. - Link the Cfx.re account that will own the server.
- Open the Cfx.re Portal’s Servers or registration-keys area.
- Generate a key, name it for the RedM server or environment, and copy the complete value.
- Paste it into txAdmin’s first-server or recipe-deployment field, or add
sv_licenseKey "YOUR_KEY"to theserver.cfgthat FXServer actually loads. - Select a RedM/rdr3 recipe, such as
citizenfx default-redm; do not use a FiveM recipe. - Watch the console for the intended configuration and resources.
- Keep the key private and rotate it in the portal if it is exposed.
Following this sequence gives the server both required pieces: a Cfx.re-issued registration credential and a RedM-specific configuration that knows where to use it.
