If your furniture never arrived, start by asking the seller in writing to confirm what happened and either refund you or arrange delivery, depending on what you want. If the seller does not resolve it, your options may depend on where you live and how you paid: the verified guidance here covers U.S. mail and online orders and credit- or debit-card disputes, plus England-specific consumer advice. Deadlines and rights vary by location.
1. Check the order and delivery terms
Before contacting the seller, gather the details that establish what was agreed and what the tracking actually says.

PAJ 4G GPS Tracker for Kids & Seniors with Real-Time Location Alerts | $29.99 | Buy on Amazon |
- Confirm the seller, order number, delivery address, promised delivery date or window, and amount paid.
- Check whether the order confirmation explained that the furniture would arrive in separate shipments or was made to order.
- Review any delivery instructions you agreed to, such as leaving the item in a safe place or with a neighbour.
- Save the order confirmation, invoice, order page, tracking history, and any delivery-status messages.
For bulky furniture, distinguish between statuses such as “not dispatched,” “carrier has item,” “delivery attempted,” and “marked delivered.” A status is useful evidence to ask about, but it does not by itself explain where the furniture went or establish that you received it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2. Ask the furniture seller to fix it
Use email or the seller’s formal complaint channel so you have a dated record. State the order number, price, promised delivery date or window, and that you did not receive the furniture. Say whether you want a refund or still want delivery. If tracking says “delivered,” ask where the seller says it was left and request the delivery evidence.

You can adapt this message:
I have not received order [number], which was due [date/window]. Please confirm where and when you say it was delivered and provide the delivery evidence. I am requesting a full refund to my original payment method [or redelivery by an agreed date]. Please respond by [reasonable date].
Do not claim a statutory deadline unless you have checked the law that applies to your location and circumstances. Official guidance in both the U.S. and England starts with contacting the seller. The Federal Trade Commission’s guidance explains U.S. shipment and refund rules; Citizens Advice explains the England process, including asking the seller to chase a courier if one was used.
3. Know which U.S. delivery rule may apply
For most qualifying U.S. orders made by mail, internet, or phone, the FTC says the seller must ship within the time it promised. If it did not state a shipping time, the general default is 30 days. This is a shipping rule, not a guarantee that every late furniture delivery automatically gives you an immediate refund; the facts and delivery terms matter.

If it does not ship the order, it must provide a full refund rather than only store credit. See the FTC’s pages on orders that never arrive and online shopping.
4. Escalate based on how you paid
| Payment route | What to do | Key timing or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. credit card | Contact the card issuer and submit the dispute in writing if the seller does not resolve the non-delivery. Include the order confirmation, promised delivery date, correspondence with the seller, and available carrier records. | The FTC says goods not delivered as agreed can be a billing error. Send the written dispute within 60 days after the first statement showing the error was sent. A later agreed delivery date can complicate the timing; contact the issuer promptly and provide date evidence. Some issuers may extend the period. |
| U.S. debit card | Contact your bank or debit-card issuer promptly and ask about its dispute process, evidence requirements, and any voluntary protections. | FTC guidance says debit-card protections differ; recovery for non-delivery may not be available on the same basis as for credit cards. |
| England | If the business seller refuses to resolve the complaint, use the further-help routes described by Citizens Advice. | The Citizens Advice guidance is for England. Check the appropriate advice route for Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland rather than assuming the same guidance applies across the UK. |
The FTC describes the U.S. credit-card deadline in its billing and non-delivery guidance. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also explains that non-receipt may be a credit-card billing error and advises contacting the seller.

Ask the seller to identify the precise delivery location and provide the proof it relies on. Depending on the delivery, that could include a photograph, signature, carrier record, or the address or safe place used. Explain whether anyone accepted the furniture and whether you agreed to delivery to a neighbour, porch, or other alternative location.
In England, Citizens Advice says the seller remains responsible when the item was not delivered to the agreed location; an agreed safe-place or neighbour arrangement can affect responsibility. That England-specific explanation is not a universal rule: in the U.S., responsibility depends on the facts and applicable terms.

- Order confirmation or invoice and the advertised or agreed delivery date.
- Payment statement and delivery tracking, including any status changes.
- Your written refund or redelivery request and the seller’s response.
- Notes of calls, including dates, names, and what each person said.
- For a payment dispute, the expected and actual delivery dates if known.
Keep a simple dated timeline. Preserve tracking screenshots as they appeared; do not alter them or describe the matter as fraud if the established facts are only that the furniture was not received.
What these routes do—and do not—establish
The seller is the first point of contact; a card dispute is a separate route to ask a payment issuer to review a charge, not a guaranteed refund or a substitute for proving the order and non-receipt. The rules described here do not resolve every case involving private sellers, financing, buy-now-pay-later providers, insolvency, or complex split deliveries. For a location-specific answer in those situations, the key facts are your country or state, the seller type, payment method, promised date, and tracking history.
