To get a Mauritian IP address, subscribe to a VPN provider that currently lists Mauritius as an exit location, connect to that location, and then confirm that an IP lookup tool reports Mauritius as the country. That confirmation is the step most people skip. A VPN location list tells you what the provider offers, not whether a particular website or app will accept the address it assigns.
What a Mauritius VPN location actually gives you
A VPN app sends your device’s internet traffic through a server run by the provider. Websites that receive that traffic see the IP address of the VPN exit point rather than your home or roaming address. If you choose a Mauritius exit, the site may classify your connection as Mauritian, which is what most readers need when they are abroad and cannot use a local app or service directly.
The label on a server does not always match where the machine sits. PureVPN’s support notice describes “virtual” locations, where the provider assigns an IP from the chosen country while the server itself is physically elsewhere. That notice says PureVPN removed a group of virtual locations, and Mauritius was among them. Providers change their lists, so a location that worked last year may be gone now.

Step-by-step setup
- Confirm Mauritius is on the provider’s current list. Check the location or server list on the provider’s website or in its app. Do not rely on an older review or a search snippet for availability.
- Read the terms before you pay. Look at the plan price, the number of simultaneous devices, device support, the logging policy, and the refund window on the provider’s own site. Treat these as the provider’s stated terms, which can change.
- Install the official app and sign in. Open the location list, select Mauritius, and connect. Proton VPN describes this same select-and-connect sequence on its Mauritius page.
- Check the IP country. With the VPN connected, open an IP lookup service in your browser. Confirm that the reported address and country are Mauritius before you go further.
- Test the service you actually need. Open the specific website, banking app, app store, broadcaster or streaming service and see whether it works. A successful location check does not guarantee that any given service will accept the address.
How to check the result
- IP country reads Mauritius: the VPN is assigning a Mauritian address. Move on to testing the target service.
- IP country reads another country: the connection may have failed, or the location may be virtual or mislabelled. Disconnect, reconnect to Mauritius, and check again.
- Lookup shows Mauritius but the service still refuses access: the service has its own rules, or it has flagged the IP. Contact the provider and the service; a neighbouring-country exit does not substitute for a Mauritian one.
- Mauritius is missing from the list: the provider no longer offers it. Choose a different provider or accept that this route is unavailable.

- Current Mauritius availability: whether the location appears in the provider’s own list today.
- Virtual or physical server: whether the provider says the server is in Mauritius or only assigns a Mauritian IP. A virtual location can advertise one country while the hardware is elsewhere.
- Compatibility with your target service: whether the specific service accepts that VPN address. No source reviewed for this guide verified that a named Mauritian bank, app or broadcaster works through a named VPN.
- Device support: whether the app runs on your phone or computer, and whether the setup steps match your device.
- Privacy and commercial terms: the logging policy, pricing and refund terms, as stated by the provider. Independent audits of provider privacy claims and current prices were not confirmed for this guide.
Legal and accuracy limits
An Information and Communication Technologies Authority of Mauritius document was surfaced that sets conditions for internet service providers offering non-geostationary satellite internet, including local points of presence and terminal authentication. That document does not address whether consumer VPN use is lawful, so it should not be read as a ruling on VPNs. If the legal status of VPN use matters for your situation, check current Mauritian law or official guidance from the authority directly.
Treat this as a verification method, not a guarantee of access. Provider location lists, IP geolocation databases and third-party acceptance policies can each differ and change without notice.
