To get a Burundi IP address, connect through a VPN server that your provider lists as located in Burundi, then check the public IP address and its country before you rely on it. While the VPN is connected, websites see the IP address of the VPN server rather than your own, so the country they see is the country of that server’s address.
Availability is the first thing to confirm. CometVPN publishes a Burundi location page describing a Burundi server pool and setup steps, but those are the company’s own statements. No independent check in the sources reviewed confirmed its current server inventory or the country its addresses resolve to. At the time of writing, no other mainstream provider’s Burundi exit has been independently confirmed either.
Set up a Burundi exit
- Open the provider’s website and go to its server or locations list. Search for Burundi specifically. A general “Africa” entry, or a listing for a neighbouring country, does not give you a Burundi exit.
- Confirm that the plan and device you plan to use include that location. Some services limit locations by subscription tier or app platform, so check this before you pay.
- Sign up, install the provider’s official app, and sign in. CometVPN’s published instructions follow this sequence: sign up, install the app, find the Burundi server pool, and activate the VPN. That is vendor guidance, not a walkthrough that has been tested by an outside reviewer.
- In the app’s location list, select Burundi and connect.
- Check the result with an IP lookup tool. The address should resolve to Burundi. If it does, you have a Burundi IP for that session.
Check the IP after connecting
The lookup step is the only reliable way to know which country your traffic appears to come from. Treat the app’s location label as a claim until the lookup confirms it.
- Expected result: the public IP geolocates to Burundi and the country field reads Burundi.
- If the country is different: disconnect, reconnect, and select a different Burundi server if one is listed. Repeat the lookup each time.
- If no Burundi server works: the location is probably not offered on your plan or in your region. Contact the provider’s support with the server name and the IP you received, and ask which country the address is registered to.
- Keep the check for each session: an IP address assigned on one connection may not be the same on the next.
Burundi and Brunei are different countries
Searches for a VPN with a “Burundian” address often return results for Brunei. Proton VPN’s Brunei server page is about Brunei and “Bruneian” addresses. It is not evidence that a Burundi location exists. Check the spelling of the country on any provider page before you subscribe.

Physical and virtual locations
Some providers run “virtual” locations, where the IP address is registered to the country you selected but the server is physically elsewhere. Private Internet Access describes this arrangement in its virtual server locations article. Whether this matters depends on your use. If you need the server itself to be in Burundi, not only the IP registration, ask the provider directly how it labels its Burundi location.

| Comparison point | What to check |
|---|---|
| Burundi availability | The live server list shows Burundi by name. Confirm this before subscribing, because listings can change. |
| Exit IP and country | After connecting, the IP lookup shows Burundi as the country. |
| Physical or virtual | Ask whether the server is physically in Burundi or only uses a Burundi-registered IP. Some providers describe this distinction openly; others may not. |
| Device support | CometVPN advertises apps for Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows. Confirm the app for your own device. |
| Speed and reliability | Test from your own network. Results depend on location and congestion, not on the provider’s marketing. |
| Target site compatibility | Test the specific site or service you need, since a Burundi address does not guarantee access. |
| Terms and privacy | Read the provider’s current privacy policy and subscription terms rather than relying only on its marketing pages. |
Speed and the cost of a distant exit
Windscribe advises choosing a geographically close server for better speed, in its server list. A Burundi exit may be farther from you than a server in a nearby country, so expect slower connections and higher latency than you would get from a close server. Run a speed test on the connection you actually plan to use before you depend on it.

- change anything about your own device, accounts, or identity.
Surflare’s server page explains that websites see the server’s public IP, and that is the only part of the result a VPN controls.

Burundi-assigned IP space exists
IPinfo lists the sample address 41.79.226.4 as located in Bujumbura, Burundi, and associates it with Burundi Backbone System SM in its record for that address. This shows that Burundi-assigned public address space exists. It does not show that any consumer VPN provider offers that space to its customers.

CometVPN’s own claims
CometVPN’s Burundi page makes first-party claims about a Burundi server pool, local content access, privacy, and setup. These are the company’s representations. They have not been checked by an independent reviewer for this article, and they should be confirmed against the live server list before you buy.

The legal question
CometVPN’s FAQ states that VPNs are legal in Burundi. No government, regulator, or legal authority source confirming that statement was identified. Look for current guidance from Burundian authorities or a qualified local adviser before relying on any legal conclusion about VPN use there.

Open questions
Two points remain unsettled: which providers currently run a Burundi exit that has been tested and works, and what physical infrastructure supports each one. Answering either requires checking a provider’s live server list and running the IP check described above.
